I thought I'd go ahead and giving posting this here a shot for anyone that may be interested. The post here is specifically for an Art Director, but we are also looking for an additional engineer. More details below.

Studio JAVELIN is looking for an Art Director to join our party

If the following applies to you, please read on::

  • You want to embark on a journey to create a video game passion project with other passionate teammates

  • You are excited about the idea of a Monster Hunter game for mobile, and more notably, excited about creature design

  • You have experience working on video games in some fashion.

  • You are excited about owning and creating the artistic vision for the game

  • You know how to get 2D art into Unity from start to finish: concept, asset creation, import, effects and animation. We don't expect you to be a master of all of these domains but we are looking for someone that can own these areas.

  • You are willing to accept equity in the project for your contribution

About Us

We are currently a party of 2, looking for a third.

piranhaMagi works full-time at a large game studio as a senior-level product manager with 5+ years of game industry experience. Piranha started making indie games in Unity part-time a few years ago.

dumplingSamurai works full-time in the tech industry as a senior-level engineer with 8+ years of engineering experience in the Bay Area. He has been working in Unity part-time for over a year.

Being a small team, we both do a bit of everything, but PiranhaMagi does most of the design work while DumplingSamurai does most of the battle-related engineering work. We both code. We are both working on this part-time, in addition to our day jobs.

About Our Project

Our game is currently titled Spirit Defense -- we launched it Early Access on Google Play in mid-March: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.studiojavelin.spiritdefense

. We're using Unity as our game engine.

The goal is for the game to be successful enough for us to transition to it full time or at least open up more options. At a minimum, this will be a great resume builder and fun learning opportunity. Ultimately, we want to create a great game that brings enjoyment to many people.

This is a mobile free-to-play game. The core game is live. We did a user acquisition test and our Day 1 Retention results were very promising, meaning our core gameplay mechanic is solid.

New Challenger Approaching!

Although the core of our game is live, the game vision we have has a long way to go.

Our game vision is to build a Monster Hunter game for mobile with core castle defense "spear-throwing" gameplay. We want to build a game that revolves around creatures that you slay in order to obtain their parts, which you can use to craft more powerful weapons.

We are looking for someone to join our team to lead the artistic vision of our game. We DO NOT want you to just continue the current art style in the game. We want you to reimagine what the best artistic version of our game can be, considering the game vision. We are very open to modifications or whole-scale changes. We want you to own the vision.

Equity Stake and Payment

You should expect an notable equity stake in the project for your contributions once we have found that we are the right fit for each other. This is not a contract/work-for-hire role. Like us, we expect you to work part-time. We generally work 3 hours a day but are quite flexible.
