  1. I don't want to get banned and I am not trying to start any flaming wars. I just want to know if anyone else knows where some of the modders have left to. I know that some are gone because there are certain mods missing, locked, and when you go to the "Top" files categories a lot of shifting around and some of the smaller unknown files are close to the top. I recently had to reinstall Skyrim and tried to go onto the Nexus to find some new or great NPC overhaulers. The kind that I had seen a million times before that are so varied ala MBWS flavors. I only found two this time and it made me start looking for other mods I had seen before and are now missing. I love the Nexus and don't want to leave, but if some people are going the start your own website route is it ok to ask where they've gone? Thanks everyone. No flaming please this is not about what happened in the past, just looking for some missing talent is all.
  2. In response to post #24736854. that's not drm, it's smart business. If I only had money from investors to sell my item at one place, I would go with the one 80% of the market buys from. Biggest distribution bang for the buck. Like selling your cookies at Walmart and not Target. All the other distributors are small fry compared to Steam, and as production budgets sink lower and costs get higher for game developers and makers, you have to make hard choices as to where your limited distribution bucks go. Makes sense to go with a big distributor that's a sure thing. You don't pay to join steam, it's free (maybe they get a chunk from the game sale?) and you can disconnect it and go offline and still play the game. Not really the same as drm.
  3. In response to post #24735929. #24736429 is also a reply to the same post. Nothing to forgive. They did what they thought was right. It's their mod and their product. Says a lot if they have that many downloads of their mod even if they act childish. That means it's an awesome mod. Why wouldn't you want talent like that back here? They gambled, but if they walk away we lose, not them. Not arguing with you some of them are straight vicious in their replies on their threads. But again....if you don't like it, just don't download it. I support modders, like all artists you have the rock stars that pee on their fans and give them the bird, and still pack arenas. And you have the pop stars that take selfies with their fans and sign autographs, and still pack arenas. It's not them you like, it's their music (mod)
  4. I am not for or against paid modding. It's like any art, some individuals get into it for the challenge, to grow artistically, others for the money as well. Neither is bad or good, just DIFFERENT. It's like many modders post on their page "if you don't like this mod move on don't download it and don't troll" you as a user always have the option to not pay for a mod. I am surprised Bethesda and Valve listened, and it shows a lot about them as a company and how much they value their customers. Now here are the possible repercussions for future endeavors: 1. no creation kits released anymore to the ungrateful people that didn't know what they had until it's gone. 2. we lost some major modding talent due to some extremists in the community and extreme hate 3. modders that stayed free, garnered hardcore loyal followers...as long as they don't charge money, and showed their loyalty to us as downloaders 4. Dark0ne and other website owners are going to start wondering if pouring money into a website sponsored by such a finicky crowd that can turn on you in an instant is worth dealing with. So with that said. I love the Nexus and all it's pages. I love Bethesda and Valve for trying something new and taking a risk. Mostly I love my country for being capitalist and the market decided the product wasn't worth buying so it failed. It's about supply and demand. If there is no demand there is no product. I will keep on buying Bethesda and Valve games. I decided to put my money where my mouth is and I started donating to some of the modders here on the Nexus that have donation buttons up because the Nexus gives them 100% of what you donate. Might not be much, maybe a cup of coffee for the late nights spent modding. But for most of the popular mods that have 500k downloads or more, if everyone kicked in 50 cents, that's a pretty decent thank you and a lot of coffee. Artmoor and Chesko might not be hired by Bethesda, buy they can be hired by the modding community if we all give them a small thanks. Hey even the guys at Venice beach sketching on pads or juggling chainsaws get donations in a hat, why not a modder? I'm just hoping our community heals quickly, but some bitter taste is always going to be there. As a downloader of mods I saw some really poisonous stuff posted against people that decided to pay the bills with their talent on their pages. I know that if I was a modder, and I lived from inspiration in the heart, that would kill any I had. Not for or against it. Just think Bethesda and Valve did it wrong, it felt forced down our throats. Too much, too soon. I think people here got scared we would lose our top modders to money and big corporations. That should show how valuable these mods are to everyone.
  5. And I hope others can see that we need to keep sites like the Nexus and LL open and running. This storm will pass and it will be messy and there will be many casualties. Let's make sure this place isn't one of them, even if you don't agree with the Dark0ne, you have to respect the great modders who have chosen to stay here and keep their content free.
  6. In response to post #23700109. Thank you for bringing this up Kalell. This is what I was thinking. I have read posts here by mod authors (not all) that are feeling attacked, like users are saying their work isn't worth anything, or about how users are so demanding and feel entitled. I have seen it mentioned that they put in long hours, and resources, efforts, and in some instances money. Normally if someone puts that much into a mod and they know they aren't getting paid for it there are only a few reasons they could possibly be doing it, recognition, fame, appreciation, personal challenge to better themselves, a fierce competitive nature, or a huge artistic spirit that wishes to give joy to others. None of these involve money. On the other hand, I go out and work a highly stressful job for the government, 70 to 80 hours a week (time), I have to keep my vehicle and tools in top condition (resources), and I have to pay for uniforms, gas, and food (money). So yes, I put in my time, money, and resources two, to buy time to play a game, pay the mortgage, feed my kids. One of the few stress releasers I have is playing Skyrim one or two hours a week. My father recently passed away, he was a doctor in Mexico and he immigrated to the U.S. (legally) and he quit being a doctor 15 years and took up landscaping, because he said he was tired of the stress, the money, and the demands from greedy corporate bosses. He said he missed working with farmers and on the land for the joy of getting up early, working hard, watching something grow. This trend spells doom for beloved sites like our Nexus. The best ways for these big corporations to make money from modding is to stop free competitors with cease and desist letters. User rights under EULA aren't taken away....yet, but how many of you have money to take on the team of lawyers that Bethesda has for the next 5 years in court if they decide to tell you to stop? Modding was a small niche, underground group years ago. Bethesda and other big gaming companies started as small niche groups. They decided to ignore the modding community because they assumed it was a small group and they couldn't see any way of generating money from it. Modding has extended the shelf life of Bethesda games way past any time that the game would have had without mods (Morrowind anyone?) Thanks to creative people like Arthmoor, Elianora, Colourwheel, ArrowInKnee, and others, modding has attracted a huge fan base. So maybe an equal compromise between both sides. One that shows the value and appreciation toward modders, and the other toward the hard work users have to put in to earn that money they are paying you. A subscription model that allows downloading all mods for a set monthly price. With the caveat that those that choose not to do it for money but rather love of modding, can be allowed to keep posting on sites like Nexus. It would be interesting to see which site would have more followers at the end of the year. But why would Valve and Bethesda allow for free websites when they offer paid ones? Simple...so that they can keep selling their old Game of the Year games on Steam even 10 years after their release, still make some money off of modding, and not choke the artistic spirit of modders out of the world.
  7. Usually happens on Sunday evenings/nights for me. But I don't complain, figure they have to do maintenance sometime. I just bought me membership after reading this. Keep up the awesome work and thank you providing a place for artistic freedom free of corporate greed!
  8. I got Fallout 3 Game of the Year edition with all expansion packs as a gift for Christmas a while back. Heard about it. But didn't really get my attention. So it sat for almost a year with brand new plastic wrapping on my tv next to the XBOX 360. I had been playing Oblivion for years on the XBOX 360 and had just completed my billionth play through. LOL. And was broke and couldn't buy any new games. So there was Fallout 3. So I was like what the heck I'll try it. First thing I noticed is that Bethesda made it. Same people that made Oblivion, so it got my interest a little more. Needless to say, I started playing it, and stayed up until 3 AM that first night and had to work the next day at 6AM. Called in sick. Played all day. Didn't eat. Sat in my pajamas. Playing Fallout 3. So then I hear there are things called "Mods" for the computer version...so yep....you guessed it went shopping and bought the GOTY edition for the PC. A Month later my laptop burned out from all the FO3 hours. I couldn't get enough of the post apocolyptic feel. I had just gone to D.C. a few months before and there before my eyes was the Washington monument.....with holes! and Capital hill filled with Super Mutants. Then I start watching all these videos on YouTube that people put together using FO3 characters and stuff from the game! And then I got to the Nexus and my jaw hit the floor....mod after mod......after mod. I printed the BOS logo from the net and put it on my cubicle wall at work. Everyone looks at it and asks what it is and I tell them it's a group I belong to. So now everybody thinks I'm some kind of Free Mason. LOL. I keep playing Oblivion GOTY on my 3rd new computer. I keep playing Fallout 3. So when I heard Fallout New Vegas was comming out I got super excited! I reserved a copy. Pre-ordered. I kept hearing so much about Fallout 1 and 2 that I downloaded it from Direct 2 Drive and even though I dug the story.....the outdated graphics disappointed me. But I loved getting some history lessons and understood a little more about the Fallout Universe. So I get FONV and install it on my PC. The opening scene had great graphics.......but I was disappointed with the story right off the bat....really? Revenge for getting shot? That happens a lot in the wasteland. So I played it through all the way. Have it installed with a few mods no DLC. But even though FONV is pretty big, the weapons are more varied, the old school factions are back and the locations too, I felt seriously let down. Big time let down. It felt like there really was no point to this. The ultimate bad guy is a man who thinks he's an old Roman? Really? I know the rabid NV fans say this is more canon and that that is what the Fallout Universe is supposed to be like. I really loved the great graphics and variety in weapons and ammo and armors. But the storyline left me disappointed. After playing the old school Fallout games and FO3 the stories always involve the Vault. In NV only vault is a gift shop and a fiend hidout? All the other ones are empty or have lame fetch quests. The Brotherhood of Steel is almost nonexistent. (my favorite faction) The enclave is dispersed and just leftovers. Fallout 3 had a deeper story line. Life in the Vault turned upside down. The brotherhood of Steel is everywhere and so is the Enclave. Settlements have a postapocolyptic feel instead of the Vegas crummy neighborhood feel. When I have played New Vegas it feels like I am going into one of the cheap casinos on the strip nobody has heard that smells like cigarettes and puke and the slot machines and decor is from the 1960's. I was seriously let down. And I keep reading about all the trouble people have with modding for New Vegas because Black Isle studios has shaky game coding and it is totally unstable in the GECK. One of the reasons FO3 was made even better and is so long lived is that Bethesda made it so Modder friendly. And Stable. I hope and pray that the next Fallout game is made by Bethesda. Maybe something in Los Angeles or Texas. And I hope if any other studio is making the next Fallout Game they read threads and forums like this and realize that mod friendly games are the way to go to make them long lifed and loved. That's why I think FO3 is better. Better storyline. More stable. More modder friendly. Better apocolyptic feel.
  9. I don't know what is involved. So please forgive me if I am asking an ignorant question. But I play Oblivion and FO3 only. Tried Vegas didn't like it. There is a companion mod called Saerileth Asian Companion on the Elder Scrolls Nexus that I downloaded for Oblivion and liked. I was wondering if there is a way to transfer her over from Oblivion to FO3. Like I said I don't know what is involved in way of permissions, technical aspects, or time. But any help would be appreciated. Thanks for the info ahead of time.
  10. How about Allister, Rebellion, or Force Edge/sparda from Devil May Cry. I would love to see those weapons.
  11. I don't know if this is the right place as this is one requesting mods and mine is more of a armor/clothing type request. I was wondering if it was possible to have someone make an armor that is skin tight ala aeon flux black tights or seven of nine in star trek voyager. I don't know anything about modding or skinning. But I have scoured the dragon age nexus website and this forum and the closest thing I have found is one called second skin. But I wanted something that looked like a latex or cloth outfit in black and one in white. that is removable and not a nude mesh that is recolored. Thank you for your consideration and any help would be greatly appreciated. And I appologize if this is in the wrong section.
