  1. Bah, I'm just not *getting* Blender. It is not intuitive for me. Any recommendations for a viable alternative? Or should I suck it up and muddle through? Just for kicks, I think I'm as close as I can get with my skill level
  2. Thanks Elsys656, I think that hit on probably what I was struggling with. I haven't added it in game proper. I'm using the references from another armor mod, and I figured I'd "officially" add it when I got everything working. *Sigh* I guess I'm off to read up on how to do it the proper way. And, yes, it's pretty sweet in game. The back of the Kilt is a cloak that I integrated into the front of the Kilt, so it actually moves like a kilt while running. I'm pretty pleased with the whole thing, but every time I log in I can't help but nit pick about some fine tuning...I need to know when to stop and just enjoy it. Quick edit: Reading up on properly adding my Kilt in game answered my 2nd question. Nice. I'm pretty excited to see this all come together.
  3. Greetings, A little background: I only started playing Skyrim maybe 3 months ago months ago, and once I found mods, I was pretty excited. The mods are crazy in how they make the game feel more alive, so thanks to everyone who has had the patience to get through one and make it work. One thing that was severely lack though was a proper Kilt, never mind a Great Kilt. I looked...and looked. I decided fine, let me see what I can do instead of requesting one. I mean I figured out how to edit some textures, so how hard can this be? Well, very...but also a lot of fun. The learning curve is steep (What??? I need to download and learn ANOTHER software to do that???) After taking some small steps, I decided to start from the ground up using other mods to create one, and have what I think is a pretty close to proper Great Kilt for the cold Skyrim adventures. Front: https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/923674458677564362/3AE1CB02FEF89BC71F22B1B1295122031B3732E1/ Back. I'm pretty pleased with it. It *moves* like a kilt should: https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/923674458677561286/5E85DB833C433849B885848C69F059EDCEABF737/ I even went so far as to figure out normal maps, because, well, Kilt Pin: https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/923674458678245344/82E4365FFDE5C6E9AB485339F606898B5FC5C5C9/ So, my questions: 1. What is the best way to port from _0.nif to _1.nif? I've yet again broken my weight slider and would rather not build from the ground up again  I've read some guides and tried a few things with different degrees of catastrophic failure. (Holy crap!!! Part of my head is a mile away!) 2. There's a lot going on in the nif. Is there a good way to clean everything up? Thanks in advance. This might be basic stuff, but this is my first real mod attempt, so I'm slowly learning how everything plays together.
  4. Last update. This is as good as I can do at the moment with my limited skill set. All in all, I don't think it's too bad for a complete beginner, I updated the tartan: And pleats!!!! (Well, good enough for me) https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/923673932528194259/2427207D45E5D8F42E2BC850BFD6E07E253FB7E5/ and to finish it off, a wee sporran https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/923673932528103825/01C454480B75226D971E0CF1B42BA944A45CCB47/ Honestly, in game it's pretty cool. That was quite the adventure! Now I get to run around in my new Great Kilt
  5. Well... I read many posts, downloaded blender and tried flipping in it, with various degrees of failure. I'm not the only one to run across this issue, but I couldn't find an actual solution. The mirror modifier in Blender had the side affect of messing up the dismemberskininstance, and I'm not knowledgeable yet to fix it. I wanted to update, so anyone searching for a solution would at least find a definitive resolution, even if it wasn't the desired one. After spending far too much time trying to fix the mirror issue (It seemed such an easy task!!!) I came up with a far easier solution: hack up a cloak! So, now I have my Great Kilt. Besides texture cleanup and working on pleats (at least the illusion of pleats), I'm satisfied with the end result. Back, Kilt only: https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/923673932527548229/26BC630D5389FB95034A9520005E8F8C3705F881/ Back with full loadout: https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/923673932527549694/9F07269F8F8DFC6272DAAB5A09A49886360A36CC/ Front, Kilt only: https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/923673932527552144/4AFE5D61C6C6C16747D9633AC6AD68570DC5E112/ Front with full loadout: https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/923673932527553992/AD5A6E6B9BD13FE67D437F8865B20297AAAD822D/ That was certainly a learning experience!
  6. Update: Swapping the X-axis DID swap the position, not DDS editing required. It did, however, swap the front and back. I'm going to try and reverse the Z-axis pairs and see if that rectifies the orientation. Also, it looks like I may need to attach to a different skeleton point? Ah, the joys of learning something new.
  7. Since there were no Great Kilts I could find, I started my own little project. It's been quite the learning curve, but I've pretty much got the basics done (cobbled together from a few different mods)...except for one detail. For the shoulder kilt "tail" I'm using a Ranger hood with everything else removed. It's on the wrong shoulder, which I knew, but there doesn't seem to be an easy way to flip it. I've read quite a few posts, but I couldn't find exactly what I'm looking for. The back: https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/923673932519024768/F8EE6CE44AFB9E6B0EFF64AA8816C3141B34608E/ The front (Angled so you can see where the scarf is): https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/923673932519022290/75A033CE3117C6D8DF9C687934C66FD013D4D127/ Now, just poking around in Nifskope, I think I found my answer, but I want to see if I'm on the right track first. It looks like I can just flip all of the verticies X axis coordinates, then flip the DDS to match. Am I over simplifying? I'm a complete novice at modding and any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  8. Ryder the Dragonfly Bosmer. Extremely skilled in melee combat. Generous by nature, Ryder tries to help anyone less fortunate, but has no patience for liars, scammers, and thieves. Always looking for adventure, she came to Skyrim...which has proved to be quite interesting.
  9. I'm late to the game (Both Skyrim and modding) and have been blown away by the incredible modders out there. It's really made the game so much more enjoyable. For me, it makes a huge difference if I really like the way my character looks. I searched for the perfect armor and got reasonably close with the Scout armor (Original by Doodaboom, retexture by Gunvarian). After reading these forums, and finding a bit of information and some advice in a thread basically saying, "instead of requesting mods, why not try yourself?". So, sure, what the hell...how hard can it be? It's just a retexture of a retexture, and Surely it's not perfect as I'm still learning, but as it's my first attempt at any kind of modding...It just makes me happy to be running around in my Dragonfly Armor! Much thanks to this community for all of the information and all the mods.
