Recently I encountered such a problem: when exporting from 3ds Max to the NIF format, the grid undergoes some strange distortions. I used 3ds Max 2018 to create a model, but used the 2016 version before and there were no such problems. However, I tried again using 2016 and different versions of the NIF plugin, but the problem remained.
