  1. I've made an Inn, tweaked one quest, expanded upon another, and fiddled around with a spell. Concurrently with all of these I've been working on something a bit bigger; though still not as ambitious as I'd eventually like to be doing! As it's rather involved, touches many more aspects of the game, and introduces changes that appear based on the player's progress, I'd like to have it tested out by a few people before I release it into the world. If you're interested, please contact me via the Nexus's messaging system. Thank you! Also, if this is the wrong place to ask for such things, or if there's a far better place, please let me know.
  2. I've got it! What I was missing, and I can't find any mention of elsewhere, is setting the quest owner on the message itself. When done this way, the specific reference selection (which is pointing to the activator that calls the message) locks in and grays out in the Reference Alias window. So quest points to activator which points to message which points back to quest. It works for both message windows and log notifications! I am so relieved! :D Now I need to figure out how to change the activator or message depending on questline events and/or faction ranks. Is there any way to flag this topic as "solved" in the title?
  3. I am sure there must be a way to do it. :) I'll continue to work on other things, monitor this thread for potential help, and continue to learn papyrus bit by bit.
  4. I did follow the normal procedure to see if it worked or not, and it doesn't. I think the issue might be with the checkbox "uses stored text" since the activator doesn't store text, it's just calling a script, but that's just a guess. This is the tutorial I followed which doesn't work for my case: I've tried both the message box and the basic notification. Both work when I have normal text in them. Both fail to show up as soon as I add the player alias, even with the quest referencing them like the tutorial explains. This is my script.
  5. I've found the tutorials which help you put the player's name into a book, note, or the name of a pickup, but what it hasn't taught me is how to put the player's name in message that's using an activator and a script to show text on-screen either in the event log or in a message box. For example, rather than make it say, "It says this is my room," it will say "<Alias=Player>'s Room." and have the player's name fill in correctly. I have the bare minimum of scripting knowledge, but am learning. Any help is appreciated.
  6. Thanks! I've managed to sort out all of those issues. (Except for the creepy innkeeper hovering at my bedside.) Solved: The navmesh was too close to the bed. Has anyone managed to get the mead barrel idle working properly so people use a mug?
  7. For some reason adding JobInnServer fixes, which none of the tutorials I've read/watched mention. : / At least it's working! .... But now he never leaves my bedside. (coc whiterunrunofthemill is also working, as is all of the navmesh, and the fast travel, and a bard! Now if I could only get the server to act like a server...)
  8. Another question (or two): When I finalize the exterior navmesh, I see that some navmesh data is added to the neighboring cells. I've very conscientiously avoided editing outside of my home cell to minimize conflicts. Do I need to leave this data in the neighboring navmeshes? Are the neighboring cells now "dirty" and will conflict with other mods? (i.e. Immersive Citizens) (Yep, I've done SSEEdit cleaning.) Question 2: I see that a triangle under a door is supposed to turn green with it's linked up with the load door teleport. For some reason, some of mine are blue. They still work though. Is this odd or can I ignore? I am told they just look blue sometimes!
  9. Hi. After tweaking and patching and fiddling for a while, I decided to finally try to make my own mod. I've created an inn just a stone's throw away from the Whiterun Stable, and though the work has had its ups and downs, one issue continues to elude me: I can't get the innkeeper to show me to my room. Everything else is working. He'll rent the bed to me, I can sleep in it, and the rest of his innkeeper services are working. I've looked at numerous tutorials on the topic and I don't see what I am doing wrong. I've even tried moving the innkeeper closer to the bed in case it was a pathing issue. Is there a checklist I could run through to find the problem? Would anyone like to open it up and take a look and see if they can find the problem? The Inn is just south of the Whiterun Stables. https://1drv.ms/u/s!AnLShP0HTbkiiiSiRzXHFyKg3K4q I want to say you can get in by typing coc whiterunrunofthemill but for some reason that teleports you to the innkeeper's standing position, not the center of cell location that I've marked. While we're at it, does anyone how know to fix that? I only started using the CK last Thursday, so please phrase everything "for very beginners."
