Found the problem. It was Skyrim Revamped - Complete Enemy Overhaul Op has it in his load order too. Temporarily disabling the mod fixed it for me. The author is aware of the issue.

K thanks for the reply. You also got it to work with custom followers? Because I tried it on my little merry band and it didn't work for me. But it's very well possible I did something wrong.

Currently I'm using Inigo, Sofia, Arissa, pack mule, Meeko, and sometimes a random vanilla follower, and I'd really like to tell them all to wait/follow with a single command. I know mods like AFT can't be used on custom followers, but the wait/follow command seems so basic. Is there a simple mod for this out there? Or could anyone tell me how hard it would be to make this? On a related note, holding the activate button (default E) while targeting a follower will put them in command mode. This is vanilla functionality that also works on custom followers like Inigo etc. You can quickly order them this way to 'wait here'. Does anyone know if there's a 'command' way to make them follow again? So without opening the dialogue?
