  1. No idea. As I said, never had problems with weird named IDs. Maybe related to mod manager or operative system? Edit: by the way, I reach really often the 255 plugin limit, and trust me, NEVER a crash to desktop, just OCCASIONALLY a game freeze (but that depends from my limited RAM...)

I actually used in the last months LOOT with great success (more than 200 plugins, many conflicting with each other or in need of a certain relative load order, just had to throw in some rules) and 0 problems....even tried comparing the results of LOOT sorting with, for example, modlists like Sigourn's (which comes with its load order scheme), and LOOT made a good job in handling the plugins. Sadly mlox is not being updated since more than one year, and relying ONLY on it is pretty much impossible with the amount of mods being constantly released for Morrowind.

This must be an OpenMW issue, cause Vanilla MW can use without problems IDs with special characters...
  4. Patch for Purists IS essential. All the rest is pretty much matter of taste. I would really drop Rebirth if I was you: it conflicts with pretty much everything, and does far too many landscape edits, which are among the most complicated compatibility issue to fix (if you don't know your way with the CS). Also, do not use Morrowind Acoustic Overhaul. Use rather AURA. I say only one thing: pluginLESS. If you merge mods, do it by small steps and with related mods, one fast example coming in mind are the unique weapon replacers from Remiro, or mods changing the same city that are NOT conflicting with each other (fastest way to check if they are ok: test them in game!).
