  1. Someone on steam said this was posted somewhere on the Internet for tonight's update but they helpfully did not provide links and I can't find it. I figured this out after an annoying amount of time, so I figured I'd put it here. Do this at your own risk. The F4SE folks disable F4SE for new versions so that you don't screw your saves up. But seeing as the updates were some reflection bug and some XBOX stuff, go for it if you don't mind having to possibly roll back to a save before you take these steps. Do not forget to make a backup of your exe. First thing you might want to do, make sure steam is running, set yourself to offline mode, go to properties of Fallout 4 and make sure it's set to only update on launch. That way when you launch through F4SE it won't try to overwrite the old file you're using. Follow the instructions listed here exactly, starting at step 5, and going until at least step 9, using my info for step 6: https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/611h5e/guide_how_to_download_older_versions_of_a_game_on/ Info for step 6: download_depot 377160 377162 9105915958081115649 When you move fallout.exe you can also right click on it, go to properties>details, and make sure it says the correct version. Note to people in the future: the 9105915958081115649 number is only for 1.10.40.0. If you need to roll back to a later version, follow steps 1-4 of the guide to find the longass number you want. The first two numbers will always be the same for fallout.exe. p.s. Don't get shot in the ass.
  2. Reinstall all your HDT stuff. Make sure they aren't being overwritten. Maybe try something new, like this: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/83023/?tab=2&navtag=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fskyrim%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D83023&pUp=1
  3. The XML file modification for weapons is fully explained here. Although I guess "fully explained" is maybe overreaching. Will changing the identifierType in weapon_type_binding do what you want? Will changing an axe to piercing be enough? Do reachBase and speedBase actually overwrite the in-game values (I assume so)? For baseWeaponType says it "influences perk support." In what way? Dunno, have fun figuring it out. Regardless of whether you mod the xml file you'll need to modify/add an esp with the new weapon to have it in game. I personally never use the CK for anything I could do in TES5EDIT, and you can probably do it in TES5Edit, e.g. copy an axe over as a new axe and make sure it has a relatively unique displayed name (used in the xml files under weapon_type_binding). Honestly it'd be simpler to just use someone's modded axe. Google skyrim mod axe and go through a few pages, or just use one of these (from the first page): Crescent Axe at Skyrim Nexus - mods and community War Leader's Axe at Skyrim Nexus - mods and community Thorin s Axe at Skyrim Nexus - mods and community I'd pick Thorin's axe, its blade looks stabby (piercing)... for an axe. You'll still want to make sure you use the correct display name in the xml file, which I'd guess is straight up what it's called in game, tho you can look that up in TES5Edit. Will this work? SURE!? I've never used Perma, so I don't know. I just Googled it.
  4. If you went through all the trouble of figuring out DynDoLOD and then got it working... that's a lot of work. Take a breather, drink some beers, go to sleep (you prolly are right now, I dunno) and wake up and drink some coffee and go back to "work," you'll do fine. Your brain literally gets physically tired after going through that much s***. So you have two problems: 1. Trees that sure as s*** don't look right from far away and then pop in and look ugly. There are settings in DynDoLOD that can change how distant trees look if I remember correctly (might be wrong, might just be billboard), that or you need different tree billboards, or both. Depends on version of SFO, etc. Also I'm not familiar with the T.A.Z. lighting DLC, but it looks from your original load order like it can mess with LODs... which could be related. But most likely you need different billboards or tree color settings if the trees far away look crazy. But trees far away... they'll always look kinda crappy. You just want a similar color. Regardless, if trees are popping in too close they'll always look like s***! Billboards ain't trees. So here's my personal skyrimprefs.ini setting for that, which you can see according to STEP affects this 100%. There are other settings mentioned in that link that will have an affect on tree quality, obviously. [TerrainManager] fTreeLoadDistance =75000.0000 ^ I'm not even sure that value matters beyond 40,000. 2. Grass settings have nothing to do with LOD. You didn't say it did, just making sure that's clear. My grass appears far enough away I rarely notice it, and I use Verdant. This may be grass settings, which I'll list below, but usually the actual distance is another setting in skyrimprefs.ini. My skyrim.ini Grass settings (apparently I don't use some of the fade variables that can be used here according to STEP). [Grass] iGrassCellRadius=2 bAllowCreateGrass=1 bAllowLoadGrass=0 bGrassPointLighting=1 b30GrassVS=0 iMaxGrassTypesPerTexure=15 iMinGrassSize=70 My skyrimprefs.ini grass settings (here's the step guide): [Grass] b30GrassVS=0 fGrassStartFadeDistance=9000.0000 fGrassMaxStartFadeDistance=9000.0000 fGrassMinStartFadeDistance=400.0000 Apparently maxstartfade don't matter, my startfade could be twice as high, and my minstartfade could be way higher. Not sure where I get my settings from sometimes TBH. But until I notice, f*#@it. I have enough skyrim problems. But I'll probably start changing grass til I break everything now. THANKS OBAMA. (EDIT) It is possible that if, in the very beginning, you didn't change all your settings and such manually in the game launcher to Ultra with distance settings as far as possible that you simply started with real low ini values initially. I'd suggest a full review of the STEP skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini files to make sure you see everything great. I don't mess with ugridstoload anymore, aside from maybe seeing a bear from a quarter mile off it isn't worth wondering what's getting broken... and I'm not even sure I couldn't have seen that bear at ugridstoload 5.
  5. (EDIT): https://superuser.com/questions/920489/does-the-amount-of-files-on-desktop-affect-computer-performance <- DON'T KEEP YOUR FILES IN THE DESKTOP FOLDER REGARDLESS OF SKYRIM/MO PERFORMANCE. My Mod Organizer folder is the largest folder on my computer, literally 95 gigs (yeah, I know, I need to clean it out). If I kept it on my desktop my computer would wig the f*** out. Wearable lanterns should have an SKSE folder within it that it writes to, but if the file it's trying to write doesn't already exist (and isn't already identified by MO) it'll likely try to write it to the overwrite folder. If the overwrite folder doesn't already have an SKSE folder that might be part of the problem. But that's unlikely. I've had the mod installed for years and I've never had to move parts from overwrite to the actual mod folder and there aren't any files related to that mod in my overwrite folder currently. The files/folders there include Plugins/StorageUtil.dlll, Plugins/WearableLanternsData/common.json, Plugins/WearableLanternsData/profile1.json (at least for me, don't know if there might be more) and Plugins/WearableLanternsData/startup_test_file.json. It's likely that last one giving you an issue judging by the name and with no other info to go by. I think the most likely solutions to the problem are (in rough order): Make sure MO is not installed to program files or program files (x86). If it is, that can create read/write problems because Microsoft decided to get finnicky about what's modified in those locations. If it is and you don't want to move it, see the next bullet and see if that works. Because reinstalling MO elsewhere is probably a pain in the ass, though it might work if you want to do that. (EDIT: Apparently you have MO installed to the Desktop folder. I address this as a major problem up top in the edit. That's probably also a place where Microsoft tries to control read/write permissions for a variety of reasons). Run MO as an administrator (right click the MO link and select the option, or if it's on your taskbar right click and then rightclick the actual link and select the option). You addressed this in your first post and I'm drunk, sorry. Make sure there is an SKSE folder in the wearable lanterns mod. If not, reinstall the mod. Or it may try to create it on game startup, in which case you'll have to move the related parts to the mod from the overwrite folder after they're created (which isn't working, but possible steps to deal with that are below), but I'm fairly sure I never had to do this. Right click the overwrite folder within MO and make sure that authenticated users have read/write permissions. Create the folder manually in the overwrite folder and give it the permissions as indicated above.
  6. Yeah you won't want other LOD stuff but you'll need a bunch of tree sprites or whatever, it's a long process but totally worth it when you ride over the crest of a hill and see Dragonsreach from across the map. Because the map is flat you can often see better vistas than you could on Earth (at least from ground level) because of the Earth's curvature.
  7. Install the crash fixes mod right off the bat to see if it works: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/72725/? Since it happens only on one save, it's possible you have some extra crap in that save that you shouldn't... have you removed any mods during that save? If so load up resaver from here: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/76776/? If it says you have unattached instances or undefined elements, remove them under the clean submenu, save as a new save, and see if that won't work. If that doesn't work you can try removing go to bed and then doing the above steps. Aside from go to bed and ineed I can't see anything that would cause this outright. But it's possible that during the sleeping things get automated that shouldn't, like some weird immersive citizens conflict or something. Try waiting 7 hours and doing the same thing. If it still crashes you know it's not directly related to sleep.
  8. 1. Go to the STEP wiki for DynDoLOD: http://wiki.step-project.com/Dynamic_Distant_Objects_LOD 2. Spend the next 5 hours figuring out how to make it work with your setup. 3. ??? 4. Enjoy your awesome LOD.
  9. I post this for anyone having random crashes "around 5-10 minutes in," even though it's usually every 15 minutes exactly: The best guide for preventing crashes is probably here: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/74427/? The crash that drove me insane for over a year is listed there (this may only apply if you use an ENB): If you still have totally random crashes after using previous tips, use a timer (or check beginning/end of your logs) to see if the crashes happen every 15 minutes exactly. If they do, it's likely caused by the touch keyboard and handwriting panel service in Windows 10.(Thanks to JackArbiter) To stop the virtual keyboard service and keep it from starting again, type services in the taskbar, click services, go down to touch keyboard and handwriting service, right click and stop it, and then rightclick>properties and select "disabled" for "startup type."
  10. For speed's sake I usually rename the old one (like adding .bak on the end of the file name, assuming you have windows folder options showing file extensions) and replace it, that way you know for sure whether it works and it's not because you misnamed something in the overwrite folder, etc.
  11. This problem was resolved 3 weeks ago. Please don't start necroing threads for the f of it.
  12. Google that xml name exactly, just note that it can take you to creepy places. Which is why I was vague. Or Google HDT Physics and try the 2nd result, which is porny and why I was vague. I don't know if you're talkin' HDT hair or porny things, and didn't want to assume :D
  13. Might try reinstalling qt5core.dll: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exCsCWjqr_Y
  14. Messed up HDT physics descriptor files (the xml files that come with the physics) can cause this, especially if you're talking about physics for females. You'll want to install different HDT physics files, either mods here on nexus or find, say, a custom hdtPhysicsExtensionsDefaultBBP.xml file and replace it manually.
