  1. Yes, of course I accept that some people like it. That's fine, but it doesn't answer my question as to what the connection is with The Elder Scrolls. For example, I like Spaghetti Westerns, sausages and discovering that the pants I want to buy are half price, but I wouldn't mod them into Skyrim. I still don't get it.
  2. Not sure if I've missed something here, but what's with all the My Little Pony mods? I can't see the connection between the Elder Scrolls series of RPGs and a toy manufactured in the early 1980s aimed at little girls? I'm not criticising, I'm just confused. Could someone please explain this phenomenon?
  3. I think the actor who voices Farengar (and a few other characters as well) was probably not a professional actor. Possibly a friend or relation to someone on the developer team. The fact that there appears to be nowhere on the internet that names him is a bit of a clue. I could be wrong though, in which case he needs a new line of work, because acting certainly aint for him. Stannie EDIT Well turns out I was wrong. According to IMDb HERE, his name is Jim Cummings and he provided the voice for Winnie the Pooh. All I can say now is that in my opinion, his performance for Skyrim is simply awful!
  4. Geforce.com has finally published the Skyrim Tweak Guide by Koroush Ghazi of Tweakguides.com. Link As usual, it's a fully informative and comprehensive guide where you can find all the known tweaks (and more) in well laid out pages. Forget all the contradictory and often ill-informed tweaks and guides out there. This really is the only guide you'll ever need. Stannie
  5. Thanks, bben46. I can sleep at night now! Stannie
  6. Just a quick query. Would some kind soul please enlighten me as to what the mod category Default - I Forgot To Set This is for? I've noticed it on many of the different Nexus sites and often wondered. Apologies if this has already been answered, but I couldn't find it. Thanks
  7. Thanks, Matth85. That's basically what I was about to post. :) Not sure what was confusing him there.
  8. The reasoning is ridiculously simple and was there to see in my original post if you looked. The public are paying money in a legally binding consumer/retailer contract for the purchase of goods in an knowingly incomplete state in (for argument's sake) November - instead of paying for goods in a completed state in (for arguments sake) the following March. 9. I think you may have missed the point I was trying to highlight, or perhaps I wasn't clear about it, which was that the situation could and would change if sales were to be directly affected by releasing games too early. It would simply have to in order for the companies to remain financially viable. I am not 'worked up over a few bugs' as, like yourself, I have also experienced relatively few bugs in the game. Personal annoyance or frustration was not the reason behind posting. As I said, Skyrim is a superb open world game and any game of this magnitude is bound to have bugs discovered after release once it is played by millions of people. However, issues like non-responsive mouse clicks or scroll wheels that do not always correctly select items are issues that the developers (who are actually creating the game on PCs) must have been fully aware of before release. Add to that, the fact that the recent flawed 1.2 patch was released to the PC platform AFTER the issues were fully reported around the web from the PS3 release also points up the fact that developers release things knowing that there are issues present. Again, I was not just highlighting Bethesda, but many developers/publishers. Often, many issues are discovered as a result of a pre-release demo, but as we know, Bethesda don't do this - but they could! And some of the issues discovered since release would have been found by millions prior to release. Stannie
  10. I guess being inspired by the various bugs that PC gamers have experienced in Skyrim, I posted this over at the Bethesda Forums and have reposted here because I would like to hear the views of the Nexus members as well. THE ART OF THE PREMATURE RELEASE Are games arbitrarily released too early? I would like to discuss what I believe is a very worrying trend in the gaming world today. On 11.11.11, the highly anticipated Skyrim was triumphantly released to an excited public desperate to lose themselves in the latest masterwork from Bethesda Softworks. It enjoyed near universal acclaim from critics and no doubt will bask in many awards in the not too distant future. Awards that I personally believe will be fully deserved. So, what is the purpose of this post? Well, I also happen to believe that game developers (Bethesda included) are not doing themselves any favours when it comes to release dates, and that they need to tread carefully, lest they slip into the territory of selling goods that are not fit for the purpose for which they were made. Now before anyone starts screaming for my blood, or a moderator decides to delete this thread because I am making accusations of illegal behaviour, Skyrim does not fall into this category. It is certainly fit for the purpose for which it was made, which is of course to play and enjoy. It is, in my opinion, an excellent game, despite its well documented flaws. But ... and there is a big but ... it seems that game developers have for a while now been knowingly selling goods BEFORE they have been satisfactorily completed. In the case of this game, Bethesda decided last year that 11.11.11 was a really 'cool' date to release and stuck to it rigidly, and there was never a cat in hells chance of any slippage on such a great sounding date, no matter what the state of the game was. Today, sadly, the vast majority of games are released this way, mainly because of strict publishing schedules, but it needn't be the case. 'People Power' can (and does) successfully bring governments to their knees, but only if enough people actually use it. The practice of releasing video games too early, for whatever reason, would cease very quickly indeed if enough people simply refused to purchase until the games were properly completed. This is just an ideal of course. The real world plays differently and impatience dictates that the games are purchased en masse, the moment they are released. You cannot change this. It's just the way things are nowadays. But let's just pause and consider an analogy for a moment: A famous pop star releases a new full priced album. Upon playing the disc, it is discovered that it contains only three tracks. The artist then makes a public announcement: "Sorry, but I didn't have enough time to record any more songs in time to meet the publishers release date, and will therefore finish recording the tracks at some point in the near future. Oh and by the way - thanks for your money!" This would have course not be tolerated and would open the artist and/or publisher up to prosecution in the courts. But are not game developers now doing this very thing, right now? Stannie
  11. I don't know about anyone else, but I was very disappointed that Bethesda dropped the old 'Vanity Mode', in favour of the new 'chase cam' view. I'm talking about the way that you used to be able to rotate the camera whilst you moved, rather than just when motionless, as it is now. So if anyone has worked out a way to get the old camera behaviour back, I'd be eternally grateful for a posting here in this thread. I realise of course that it may not be possible until the Creation Kit is released (or indeed ever - if the bloody thing is hard coded!) One can but hope. Incidentally, I also hated the way the camera shifted slightly when you drew your weapon or spell, but I did correct that by making additions to the ini file. If anyone else hates it, you can remove the camera shift by adding the following three variables to the bottom of your Skyrim.ini: [Camera] fOverShoulderCombatAddY=0.0000 fOverShoulderCombatPosZ=-10.0000 fOverShoulderCombatPosX=30.0000 Stannie
  12. Evilllamas, This is incorrect. The manual that comes in the box is 20 pages - not 2. Sorry to be the 'word' police, but you shouldn't use the word 'literally' if you don't mean it. Incidentally, the PDF manual is now finally available from the game's Steam page as well (bottom right).
  13. I think games are either good or bad for different reasons and in different catagories. A single game can stand tall in one department, and yet die a death in another. For that reason, I've split my own personal nominations into the following catagories: Note that some of the following are somewhat 'tongue in cheek'. :) WORST GAME TITLE: Valve for The Orange Box Bohemia Interactive for ArmA and ArmA 2 Big Fish Games for Fairy Godmother Tycoon (Yes, it's genuine!) WORST BOX ART: Valve for The Orange Box Big Fish Games for Fairy Godmother Tycoon WORST CUSTOMER RELATIONS: 2K Games for Bioshock Codemasters for Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising WORST DEFAULT CONTROLS CONFIGURATION: Bohemia Interactive for Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis Bohemia Interactive for Arma Bohemia Interactive for Arma 2 MOST CONFUSING IN-GAME DIALOGUE: GSC Game World for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl WORST & MOST CONFUSING LEARNING CURVE: Bohemia Interactive for Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis Bohemia Interactive for Arma Bohemia Interactive for Arma 2 WORST IN-GAME DIALOGUE VOICE-OVERS Bohemia Interactive for Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis Bohemia Interactive for Arma Bohemia Interactive for Arma 2 (Engage ... man ... at ... six o' clock) spoken in six completely different, terribly acted voices) MOST BUGGED GAME ON RELEASE: Bohemia Interactive for Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis Bohemia Interactive for Arma Bohemia Interactive for Arma 2 WORST GAMEPLAY: Cauldron for Soldier of Fortune: Payback WORST GRAPHICS CONFIGURABILITY: Cauldron for Soldier of Fortune: Payback WORST CASE OF PRE-RELEASE HYPERBOLE AND FALSE PROMISE 2K Games for Bioshock Codemasters for Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Microsoft Game Studios for Halo PC Peter Molyneux for absolutly anything he works on Although I've nominated the Operation Flashpoint and ArmA games in several fields, I do actually like them, but they do tend to excel in 'badness' in certain areas. ... and so to the big one: WORST GAME IN THE HISTORY OF PC GAMING For me, there can be only one nomination: Soldier of Fortune: Payback My disappointment over this game was immense. I loved the original two games and to see the franchise so utterly destroyed by developers Cauldron was unforgivable. All they gave the PC was a rushed through, utterly linear, last-century, consolised lump of tat with pretty HDR effects thrown in to disguise its total lack of quality. If you've never played it, I seriously envy you. You don't know how lucky you were to escape this abortion of a game. http://forums.tweakguides.com/images/smilies/mad.gif http://forums.tweakguides.com/images/smilies/mad.gif Ah, well. That was fun! 14. Thanks, buddah. Yes they seem to be okay at the moment. Seattle down to 450 users, so it's made all the difference. I guess we're going to have to get used to this as we're down to 1 public server only! Stannie
  15. Does anybody have any suggestions on this? It's quite frustrating as members are still commenting that the downloads are 0 bytes in size.
