  1. You can block adult content already yes. Click your profile icon in the top right corner of the site, chose preferences, then chose the 2nd tab "Content Blocking". The first option should allow you to toggle between showing and hiding adult content. You can also block certain tags individually such as "Sexy/Skimpy" or "Nudity" by clicking on them. Lastly if all else fails, you can also block individual authors that only publish such mods by going to their profile and clicking the "Block" button.
  2. It depends where you draw the line I suppose, which is I guess the reason why there's so many different opinions on the new download system clashing at the moment. Some people consider the old way 'essential' for a good experience on the nexus while others might consider it just 'cosmetic' as you say. Sure, people will buy premium simply to support the site, it's just that the recent up-tick in premium membership purchases is probably not a sudden outburst of goodwill by the people that just so coincides with the downgrade of the download system  But anyway, more options never hurt anybody, and I do hope the staff will think of offering perks independently, kinda like they do with the supporter option already.
  3. But the thing is that, at least currently, you can trace back that way of thinking about the premium service directly to recent changes to the download system. No matter how you want to cut it, it's a downgrade for the free user. So the mentality of a new premium buyer might change from "I want to support the Nexus" to "I want to get rid of this problem, so I'll pay for the fix". So for someone who never had premium before, it does become payment for services instead of willingness to support the site. And since the Nexus are the ones who made the changes happen in the first place, it seems they endorse that way of thinking about the user-site relationship. Not saying there's anything wrong with that actually, the nexus staff needs to eat too and servers cost money, but it's understandable why someone would be discontent when you take away a convenience that was free before. I'm sure many people would pay a bit of money just to have the old download system back and nothing else. Splitting the premium perks up into chunks you can buy individually might make this more digestible for unsatisfied users.
  4. I doubt complaining will do much, unless the Nexus decides to change their approach in advertising the premium service out of their own volition, then the only thing that will change their minds is a noticeable drop in user activity which might later on affect the site. But that would take months to actualize, and as long as it's not too drastic people will adapt to it and it'll become the new normal. Until then, I guess the "File download method" option should be moved from Global Preferences to Premium Preferences.
  5. Due to the way the new download system works, people won't get premium because they genuinely want to support the Nexus but because they want to get rid of a problem that was not there before. Let's be honest here, the new download system is not an improvement over the old one, it's natural that people won't feel enthusiastic about it, right? I understand from the Nexus' perspective that the premium service was just not visible enough, after all it's basically the life-blood that keeps the site running and puts food on the staff's table, they need to let as many people as possible know about it, and they should. But from the average user's perspective it probably looks like they manufactured a problem and are now selling the solution, as Dukoth said above. Which is why I don't think it's the right tactic (but hey, it seems to work for FO76 and it's repair kits , maybe... ), you're not actually endearing users to your service, you're creating apathy at losing usability you had before. The reason the Nexus has such a stable position as a modding site is because it was absolutely painless to download mods, and getting yourself Premium was because you actually wanted to support the platform. Of course mods are still free, and servers still cost money, but the Nexus is not the only site that had to face these problems, and there are better ways to advertise your service than stepping on people's toes with it. A monthly donation target, selling merch, a different patreon for the site itself, the ability to gift premium to other members, etc.
  6. This actually sounds like a pretty great idea, I don't think there needs to be so many restrictions to it, no reason free users can't gift premium if they themselves know they won't make good use of it. The only one I can see is exclude lifetime as a premium gift option, since any other premium gifts would be irrelevant after that. But I can see some prolific authors getting 20 years of premium as gifts for a well crafted mod. In the end it's irrelevant for the Nexus who buys premium as the price would be the same. Furthermore since not all people have equal funds it'll be a great way to reward people who can't afford premium themselves, while at the same time the Nexus gets to keep it's servers running longer. In fact, it might be quite beneficial from a monetary standpoint to implement this since a user with plenty of disposable income has no reason to keep buying premium after they get the 'lifetime' package, but if they have the option to gift it to their favourite author then they have a reason to buy again. This might also alleviate some pressure the Nexus might feel with promoting their premium service to free users, so it's a win-win. Of course they'll probably have to rework how the premium system works, but the benefits far outweigh the cost. Also, the option to gift premium should be fairly visible, I know in the past things like 'donations' did not work well, and I think partially it was due to low visibility. the "Gift Premium" option should right up there on a mod's page between "Endorse" and "Vote" probably in a gold outline to even more visible. EDIT: Apparently it's already possible, I should pay more attention, but, as usual, the option is off by default and it's hard to find if you don't know about it.
  7. Depends on regional pricing I guess, lifetime membership's 50 £ here, which would be 65 $, although I'm neither from the US or UK so who knows. While, luckily for us the nexus continues to be free even now, steve40 does have a point about usability I'd argue. Advertising your product through banners is fine, I'm sure many people are annoyed by it, but it doesn't impede usability. However, redirecting a user to another page for every mod they want to download and having them pick "slow download" for every mod does negatively affect the site's usability, especially since it functioned so well before, you clicked on the download button and were presented with the download window. It's strange to me because the nexus has always been good at intelligently reminding the user to endorse downloaded files, for example, why not use that same system to advertise the premium service? I don't see the logic behind the page-redirect however, an infrequent user won't bother with premium since they won't make good use of it, and a frequent user who's downloading 50 mods for a new playthrough won't suddenly change their mind if you keep presenting them with the premium ad every 2 minutes if they haven't already bought it before starting the download spree (which would have been the smart choice to do if they wanted to do so in the first place). It's not hard to see why people consider the new download to be a drop in usability if you look at it that way, you have to jump through more hoops than previously for the same effect. Personally I'd be fine if they integrated the Premium ad into the download window itself, that way you maintain the same usability you had before and you get to advertise your service. The Nexus definitely deserves our support, but I wonder if there's no better ways to go about it. I know it has a patreon but that's exclusively for "Donation-Points", why not make one to support the site itself? was that idea proposed and rejected?... how about a merch store, I could see myself with a "Mod it till you break it" Nexus Mug  . Lastly, an official news article to clear things up would be needed I think. People usually assume the worse when you leave them in the dark, and I know the nexus to be fairly transparent with it's users in important matters, and since this affects the majority of users (some of which the nexus hopes could potentially be future premium members) I'd say it's an important enough topic.
