  1. FONV_Crashes_01122011 -------------------------------------- Well, my game has started crashing again after 24-hours of blissful "no crash" playtime. The circumstances are the same - the crashing occurs when I try to save (and only then) and they occur all over the game world, no matter where I am. I just tried to save using the console and the result was the same and at apparently the same point in game code. By the way I tried several different test locations and the results were identical. <more info below> I use NVMM and FNVEdit but there's not a single conflict showing. I am getting ready to either totally reinstall the game or put it back on the shelf. I tried it first with no mods, then with no mods and no archiveinvalidation file - no joy. Now even vanilla won't save - I can fast travel, run all over the place with impunity, basically do whatever I want, it just won't save and that kind of defeats the purpose. I guess that the game has corrupted my save files, but all of them, even the ones in seperate directories? Not likely <I hope> All of my drivers are up to date and less than a week old <reinstalled them on 01092011>. Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated. ------------------------------------Previous data--------------------------- FONV Crashes 01092011 Need some help and/or some ideas on why my system just started crashing during saves. I have played over 320 hours without a single crash and now FONV crashes every time I try to save. These are full blown saves - not quick saves. I have all of the other save settings turned off (sleep, zone, fast travel, etc.) And the crashes just started this afternoon - no new mods, retexes, nada. Even stranger I can pull up a saved file and play just fine, but the instant I click Save I get a CTD. Another oddity is the file size - I went back 5 saves which were about 5153KB file size and after the CTD every save more recent than the one I tried to save has changed to 2264KB file size. My assumption is that any of the reduced save files are hosed and corrupted, but one should never give up hope. Just in case it's relevant this is my 4th play through. Thankfully I had just saved all of my save files to a different directory and I can play around with my existing saves. I am going to try out a new character and see if I have the same problem. If I do then I have no clue. Have I just encountered the evil save bug? 2. I keep a maximum of 50 games in my Save game directory - any more than that and it takes longer and longer to Load/Save a game and increases the possibility of a crash. Like Fonger said, just move your older saves into a seperate directory and unclutter your save game dir - it will definitely speed up the Load/Save process. I've been doing it that way since Morrowind with no issues at all. Matter of fact it has saved my bacon many times (including yesterday).
  3. @drakman667 As a starting point you need to download and install FNVEdit if you haven't already. Look for mod conflicts (lots of Red). I would start with the mods that you just downloaded and installed. Sometimes moving mods up and/or down in your loadorder can solve conflicts, sometimes you just have to delete a mod. If you are not using FOMM or NVMM then download and install one of those to manage your mods. FNVEdit and FOMM are your friends and virtually indispensible. Then I would recommend Moving all of your saved games into a new directory then delete everything else in your original Save game directory including Autosave files. Then copy an older game into your save game directory and start your game. Before doing anything else turn off all non-hard saves no Quick saves, no saves on Sleep, Zoning, Fast Travel, etc. Now open the game you moved back into the save game directory and load it - if it runs OK then hit Escape and click Save - if your game saves and doesn't crash, try another even later save until you reach a save that causes a crash. I just resolved my crashing issue using this method - I lost 154 saves and 2 levels but it beats the hell out of losing 1300 saves or starting over. I didn't have any mod conflicts, but apparently some where along the line a save was corrupted and everything went downhill from there. One last thing keep the number of saved games to 50 or less, just copy them to a new directory or delete them. Sometimes you have so many saved games that the game hangs and could cause a crash - YMMV. Anyway, good luck.
  4. I just wanted to piggyback on this message - after 320 plus hours of game time (with no CTDs) I have started crashing every time I try to save. There is no particular area that it crashes in and I don't do anything but hard saves - no quick saves, no saves for sleep, zoning, fast travel, nada. It crashes at exactly the same line of code (see below) and I have deleted all but 7 saves plus the autosave. Judging by the file size issue all of my saves are corrupted and hosed. I am going to try out a new character and see if I have the same problem. If I do then I have no clue. Have I just encountered the evil save bug? 5. How do I create a mod that requires: - that the PC have a certain Survival skill level before they can skin and butcher animals - that the PC have a knife in their inventory (or have very strong teeth) before they can skin and/or skin and butcher animals or is it even possible to do this? Would I have to create a recipe like for "Brahmin Meat" and establish harvesting requirements that way? Or would I have to use leveled lists and/or loot tables? Hence the cry for help. Thank you for any help you can provide!
  6. If I see a mod that offends me then I just don't download it and I do find a lot of mods offensive - although for me it's more along the lines of nuclear pistols and/or combat knives that do 200 plus hit points damage. The Dark One provides a resource for those that enjoy the TES/Fallout series of games and for the incredible modding community that make these games worth playing again and again. All that said, from what I gather it's The Dark One's private website - he owns it, runs it, pays for it and puts up with (I imagine) tons of complaints every day. All of which I'm sure contribute to the joys of ownership - ergo, he gets to make the rules. And those of you that have used this website for any length of time know that the rules are far from overly restrictive. Do I recall an OB mod adding nude tranny bandits dual wielding zweihanders? Well, maybe not the zweihander part - but that's not exactly what I would call tyrannical. Power to the people! Fight the machine! .45-70 the only gummint you can trust! All laudable and immutable trueisms, but when you combine the Black Sun (which means a lot of different things to a lot of different people) with SS runes and present it in a Nazi context you've pretty much hoisted your colours - Nazi occult. I put together a mod for someone that ran around shooting bad guys in the head, but didn't like decapitation and/or head explosions - scratching my head all they way I did it though. Go figure! But apparently that was how he wanted to play the game, so... Not to make light of the discussion so far, but if the owner decides that he doesn't like Deathclaw's in pink tutus (sp?) then you will just have to find a different avatar or a different venue to post your mod. Although for the life of me I can't think of a single reason why that would be abhorrent, but you never know... Like Kroljas said I can tolerate a lot of different things, many of which are unacceptable to me. But therein lies the beauty of mods - I can pick and choose, thereby creating my own reality or fantasy. With regard to women - well I served with, supervised and managed lots of them. The only thing I cared about was could they do the job - if yes I put them to work; if not I sent them back to personnel with their male counterparts. YMMV - some of my NCO friends had a totally different experience from mine. Just my 2.5 cents, 1.1 after tax. I have begun to ramble so my few remaining brain cells are at Max-Q. Feel free to ignore at will.
  7. Just an idea I had as I was scarfing down a 200 plus year old Salisbury Steak and some Dirty Water. For example wouldn't it be nice to have chili (Texas Red), enchiladas, beef (insert meat preference here) stew and tacos. For side effects something like chili makes you strong like a bull; downside makes you smell like a bull too. You attract bad guys like flies. I use these 3 mods to supplement the vanilla cooking recipes - Fixed and Rebalanced Recipes mod; the Handy Recipes v2.0 mod and the recipes that I picked up from the Burning Sands quest. But alas, no chili. Maybe skinning and butchering an animal should require you to have at least a knife in your gear, fork, spoon, spork, small whetstone or better yet make a recipe so the kit can be created once you gather a lunch box, knife, etc. Then you just have to carry one item in your pack. If its already been done then halleluya and please point me in the right direction.
  8. OK, version 2 posted look under original file name Weapon_Fix_v1 on Nexus and download the newer file shown as "update". If this and No Gore from Gore Tweaks don't do it and it's in a good spot in your load order then I'm stumped. I whacked a bunch (4 for each weapon) of fiends down near Vault 3 with 5 different weapons and at point blank range no exploding heads and no dismemberment.
  9. In the meantime I found that there are several different versions common weapons, so I made some adds. See if it works for you - don't forget the No Gore esp in Gore Tweaks. Check on Nexus under the original file name Weapon and Armor Fix.
  10. Well, I just ran through my common weapons like the sniper rifle, hunting rifle, 9mm pistol, 10mm pistol, 357 and 44 magnum pistols and rifles and no explosions or dismemberment. I'll take another look - where do you have the mod in your load order? You can also use FNVEdit to open the esp and make sure it says No explode/dismember. You might also try Gore Tweaks on Nexus and use the no gore esp - put this one right after that. Are you using FOMM or NVMM to keep your mods in the correct order? Answer whichever of the above questions you can so I can get a better idea what we're working with here. Make sure you don't have any weapons mods after this one. I'll check it out again tomorrow and get back to you sometime tomorrow evening.
  11. OK, I uploaded the file to Nexus - the name is "Weapon_Fix_v1" - that should take care of your request and then some. Cheers!
  12. If I can figure out how to upload the file I'll attach it here - keeps rejecting the file though. Send me your email address at bivarl1a1@yahoodotcom and I'll just email it to you.
  13. I use Gore Tweaks, but you have to also go into the GECK and track down your favorite weapons and change the setting that governs the "On Hit" gore for that particular weapon. A lot of weapons "On Hit" settings are set to "Explode Only" or "Explode or Dismember Only" so regardless of what mod you use if you don't change this setting there's no joy. I started by modifying my "On Hit" settings for the Hunting Rifle and the Sniper Rifle and I have since expanded it to include 10-12 weapons I think. It took me longer to learn how to create an esp than it did to do the changes.
