  1. What about GTX 1080 SLI? Is 16GB good for that? Each card has 8GB of RAM, but that doesn't mean that they get combined. Works perfectly for me. Never had any performance or stability issues.
  2. I have seen some home office pc with mobile chips... but never from the inside.
  3. In Skyrim SE it would probably something from 60 up to 100+ (I have seen many different results), depending on the mods. However there's no skse yet and enb features are pretty limited. Many of them depend on reshade, which needs less ressources but in my opinion results aren't as good as with the old skyrim enb's. All around it's way more stable (I had no crashes for straight 12 hours) and better optimized (64-bit *-*). Also you should probably get no real problems with the 3gb model, at least not in Skyrim. Edit: you could probably read up the pro's and con's of Skyrim SE
  4. Normally the gtx 1060 should be able to handle enb's and graphic mods, however 60fps can be pretty demanding in 32bit old Skyrim. It's just not very well optimized (sometimes my gtx 1080 can't get 60fps, but that also depends on the enb and graphic mods). The link goes to an 3GB vram version of the 1060, I would recommend to go with the 6GB one (3gb are in some case pretty small, but normally alright for older games...). If you play highly modded your cpu will play a big role. Especially Skyrim needs high single core performance. No good multi core support combined with the old 32-bit engine can be some pain in the... Conclusion: You will be able to play in 60fps, but not with a big amount of cpu intensive mods and very very high graphics or big demanding enb. You could google for some videos on yt with your cpu and gpu benchmarked in skyrim. When going full in with high quality enb, texture mods and many other mods you will probably end up with 30-45 fps.
  5. The question would be what cooler do you currently use? If you already have a good enough one there's no need for a new one.
  6. Wait, are we talking about your "to be" repaired desktop now or the laptop? Cause only the desktop is upgradeable, but you didn't mention the specs of it yet.
  7. 1080ti ? That's some big gun for Skyrim. Maybe for playing at 2k or 4k, but for 1080p you won't need something like that. Raw gpu power doesn't help very much in a game optimized like Skyrim. Sure it helps, but just for wanting to mod and play the game a GTX 1080ti is complete overkill. You could easily go with a 1070 or even lower to accomplish that. You can ever push the game so far that you would need more power, but I think a 1080ti just for Skyrim would be wrong. In every other game with proper optimization that card would run "idle" at 1080p.
  8. In that case I would wait till your desktop is fully repaired. Due to the lack of upgrade possibilities for your laptop it wouldn't do much to try upgrading only the ram. No real performance gain. Your laptop can run modded skyrim, but not with good graphics or any performance heavy mods and with probably very bad performance. So not with good enb and long mid lists, maybe some small mods. The CTD's probably are cause your apu is overloaded or too stressed and can't comprehend it.
  9. I would atleast recommend a dedicated gpu and an ram upgrade (another 4GB should be fine). Your cpu isn't very powerful, which could be a problem with the high single core usage of Skyrim, but maybe a rx 470, 460 or something similar from nvidia would be a good upgrade. About the cpu performance I'm really not sure, never seen it outside of laptops. The integrated graphics will surely not bring very good performance. Would be good to know what kind of modding you want to do (heavy graphics, or gameplay mods and so on).
  10. Did you rescan the installed games? You could try to set the right directory manually if that doesn't work.
  11. Corsair 750D Intel Core i7 5820k (Clock 4,0 GHz) Corsair H100i + Corsair SP120 Asus Rampage V Extreme 4 x 4GB Corsair Vengeance 2667MHz 2 x EVGA GTX 1080 FTW + EVGA HB Bridge (Clocks 2050/5500 MHz) Corsair AXi 1200 Samsung 850 Evo 256GB Samsung 850 Evo 1TB 2TB + 1TB external HDD
  12. 12 Terabytes and it's already failing? Damn... that's sad  If you're using the 850 Evo in your description, what about warranty? I'm not completely sure if it helps with performance loss, but it should cover failure and so on. Maybe worth a try. Got both my drives running for around 2 years now with total written data of around 40 TB and performance hasn't changed since I installed them (still at 560 read and 530 write). So I would still support Samsung ^^ even if they're a bit more expensive (but hey, they got a 5 or 10 year warranty). In case of price/performance ssd's Crucial seems to do very good at the moment. Tested one of their MX300 series last and can't say anything bad about them. 1 TB ones should be around 290$, 500GB around 160$. Also, you will get highly disappointed if you try to replace an SSD with an sshd... not even near the same performance.
  13. It was also announced, that future updates will bring more optiona and variety to the character editor... Maybe everything will get better over time ^^ today another patch with animation fixes was released (1.5 if I followed the notes correctly) P.S. Liked the escape pod one :D
  14. The GT540M isn't very powerful. To get fps values in range of an xbox (~30fps), you shouldn't go above a resolution somewhere around 1280x720 and not near high settings (especially settings settings like godrays or ssao will get you down).
  15. It would be helpfull if you would post your specs here too. Laptops normally limit themselves, when not connected to their power supply. Did you tried it on battery mode and while charging? Also, even with the correct settings in the nvidia control panel your .ini settings could be wrong. Did you check them? If Skyrim started the first time with the internal gpu (intel hd), these files could be screwed up and you would have to correct them. (somewhere in your skyrimprefs.ini with "sD3DDevice=") If correct, your nvidia gpu should be listed there.
  16. I would probably go with a psu from Seasonic, Corsair or EVGA (or any rebrand of seasonic). They're all solid psu and I never had any problems with them. Like already mentioned newer gpu's like a gtx 1060 or even amd ones like the rx 480 don't need too much power anymore, but for me to be safe, something around 500 Watt would be the minimum ( I always like to have some buffer). The mentioned gpu's (gtx 1060 6GB and rx 480) should be the best to pair waith your cpu, maybe if you want to go full in a gtx 1070 or one of the new amd vega gpu's (depends on the time you plan to upgrade). Good gpu brands I have experience with are also evga, msi and asus. Your case should be handle to handle all of it (at least from what I can see in the pictures), so no need for mini-gpu's. Everyhting else should be fine, but maybe go later for an ssd (they're getting pretty cheap, atleast compared to their original prices ^^) Edit: Seems like I mostly rewrote what @DaddyDirection already mentioned ... sry for that ^^
  17. I think there is no other way as to redownload everything. The important part to backup would've been the nmm folder, which also contains all downloaded mods and the stored installation info (\Nexus Mod Manager\Fallout4\Mods and \Nexus Mod Manager\Fallout4\Install Info should be the important ones, which you could reintegrate into nmm after a new installation). Your data folder only holds the installed and unpacked files and if I'm correct can't be used to restore nmm information or reinstall mods. Never tested it before, but I think that should be the only way.
  18. If you start nmm and get direrctly into a specific game mode expand the the second button at the right top (called "change game mode"). There you should be able to rescan the installed games. If SSE isn't found this way automatically in the next screen, you have to manually point nmm to the game path (click on the field "..." next to the SKyirm Special Editon field) and direct into your game folder (something like \Steam\stamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition). The rest should be easy, confirm with the green check. Otherwise, it would be helpfull if you would be more specific what's not working for you.
  19. Played the full version now for around 20 hours and at the moment the worst thing for me was the character editor... hoped they would maybe improve some things over the trial version, but meh  It's so limited with very few choices and it's almost too hard to build a playable character (had to start around 4 times over again). So I definitely hope that modding will change a bit of that (add new options and more variety like in DA:I). Otherwise, I can't agree with the review critics so far and have to say, that I really like the game. Didn't even had any bugs so far. Edit: At least the tech side is great again (like always with frostbite). Perfect sli support (no stuttering and almost double fps). But what most shocked me, that this game goes wild with my cpu. 80-90% load on 4 cores with additional 50% load on another 3. Other are switching between 20 and 40%.
  20. Good that there is character customization ^^ However, I think the eyes definitely need mods... they're just odd. Sadly, like most games, there will be no official mod support, would make things so much easier.
  21. It supports dx12, but amd has better architecture (gcn architecture) for dx12. Amd uses in their new series parallel processing or also named asynchronous computing. It basically means that while nvidia has one "pipe" where all the tasks have to go through, amd's chips can use multiple pipes. However, these technique was never fully supported by direct until dx12 and vulkan came out. And cause it's hardware related nvidia can't just fix it by updating drivers ... sadly ^^ I said that amd gpu's outperform nvidia gpu's, not that nvidia gpu's don't support dx12, sry if it sounded wrong (not my native language). However in dx12 the gap between these two gpu's can be minor, if the game isn't well optimized for asynchronous computing. But in many of the newer games (with dx12) amd gains some pretty heavy fps boost through it.
  22. The way I see it, you could devide between a gtx 1060 6GB and rx 480. Both cards perform very well, but have their strength and weaknesses. For me the rx 480 would be more futureproof (dx12) but that's mostly up to you to decide. If I get it correct: dx12 rx480 outperformed gtx1060 und under that (dx9 or dx11 etc.) gtx 1060 outperforms rx480. Atleast that's what if've seen so far.
  23. Nope, that should also work fine. Origin should've just added the dlc's to your existing game (after buying the goty you also would just need to download the dlc's and not the whole game again).
  24. Nope. DAI requires a 64-bit Windows system and there is no 32bit version out there, probably because it exceeds the ram limit of 32bit systems. Why it says it's incompatible now, but run before I don't know, never heard of that problem. Edit: Already tried the "repair" function in origin? Sometimes it helps after updates were installed and messed up some files. If nothing helps maybe try backing up safe files (if not using cloud) and reinstalling the game completely.
  25. Not 100% sure, but from my last run I remember that there should be a folder called "update" inside die dai install directory which contains all dlc's in seperate folders. So you could rename these folders to deactivate dlc's. Sadly I haven't installed it at the moment, so I'm not completely sure about it. Anyhow if you're not using mods the dlc's should be completely compatible with the base game. Sometimes mods can change that.
