  1. 1 Gb ram

Leaving all other possibilities to one side, Oblivion is a maybe-will-run game on a 1 GB RAM machine. You should just be able to get it going, but it won't be fast, and it will probably fail some of the time--especially if you've got other Windows activities taking up memory (which they regularly do). For what it's worth, I would suggest upgrading your RAM. RAM's cheap these days, and you can get somebody at a computer store to put it in for you. I'd suggest buying 2 more GB. That will not only let you run Oblivion safely, quickly, and smoothly, but as a bonus you'll be able to run player-made modifications if you choose to do so tht help customize and improve the game.

It's entirely up to you, of course. :)

  2. Thats okay your just trying to help

Im running Shivering Isles and Knights of The Nine and how do I check my memory ?

Right click on My Computer. Under Computer, it should list how much RAM you've got. That's what we want.

  3. Wow... I just tried it again and it worked.I didnt even change anything. All I did was sign onto facebook and now it works.Hopefully this doesnt happen again

I don't mean to be a wet blanket, but...the fact that it has happened several times recently would seem to argue strongly for it happening again, at least until you figure out the problem.

What I meant above was whether you're running Tribunal, and Bloodmoon. And the amount of memory you have would help to know, too.

  4. Whatever body you choose, be sure to find one that has the most in terms of new outfits and the most conversions of existing clothes. Otherwise it's a waste. Most of them have mods like these, but you really want one that's going to have a lot of strength and continued development and support.

This is very good advice. At this time, there are really three bodies that are considerable support in the form of armor and clothing mods: Exnem, HGEC, and not as popular but still in the running, Roberts. Others are quite good, don't get me wrong: they just don't have the support.

Myself, I used to employ Exnem, but switched about 6 months back to HGEC. Both avoid the starveling look on a woman that I don't like, and they emphasize differences of figure from men that I most certainly do. HGEC is also the most modular and configurable of the three, offering 4 (if I recall correctly) different breast sizes, and 4 hips-and-rears of varying width.

Here's a good comparison chart, which unfortunately is rather dated. Think of Roberts as close to Eshme, and HGEC as similar to Exnem but offering more options, and you won't go far wrong.

  5. It would be really easy to change the leveled lists for the other characters though. The three main categories of clothing are lower class, middle class, and upper class. So if you had a bunch of nice dresses and court attire, you could remove the vanilla items from the upper class leveled list and put in your own. If there were particular NPC's you hung around, like the count in the town where your house is, you could manually go in and change his outfit to one of your custom ones.

Would I have to maintain the integrity of the various texture names in the folders you mention? Substitute new DDS files I'd chosen with the same names as the files in, say, the upperclass folder, now? I'd assume so, but I feel the need to ask.

  6. Meaning no offense, but it's also a bit like asking somebody, "How about creating a mod for me that will take you only a year or two?" Because all you've asked for is on the level of a major city included by Bethsoft. :) If I can make a suggestion...? Check out the modded villages and towns here on TES Nexus, then try it out. If you like it, say so, and ask that modder if they could add one small element from your request above to what they offer. They just might do it--and hey, that's further ahead of the game than you currently are. ;)
  7. It's a great house mod, and I use it all the time, but it doesn't have any space for mannequins or display cases. It would be great if someone could create a patch to merge a "basement" area onto Tchos' via a trapdoor beneath the guest quarters that either includes several cases and mannequins for arms and armor display, or at least provides a suitable space for such.

    In advance, thanks.

  8. Not only will they work together, but Share and Recruit was deliberately built off CM Partners, if I recall correctly. At least one version of the readme specifically mentions the latter mod.

Note that there are some high-end companions such as Viconia, Stoker Wolff, Saerileth, Neesha, and Vilja, who don't need or use Share and Recruit. They also operate with greater sophistication.

  9. I can't find anything, just an old merged ESP of Sorcha's for TNR and NPC's New Clothes--with both versions out of date. (And a mod that changes mage guild robes to give them more...of a draft.) What I have in mind are instructions of a mod or mods that lets you add clothes (like Growlf's, AlienSlof's, or the far more innocent ones) to the NPCs in general for their wear, correctly distributed for type, instead of just available for purchase by the player in specific stores, or on dead bodies, or in chests.
  10. If you give a companion enchanted armor, will it actually protect them better, and to the extent (and type) of protection you would find it you wore it?

A few of the more advanced companions will not consume potions as soon as they're provided. But does this apply to your basic CM companion, too?

    In advance, thanks.

  11. You can make things easier for yourself, especially at the start, if you install a companion mod or two, with your "friends" located in the IC. A companion set to "essential" (as most of them are) can't be killed--for long--and they'll aid you in your battles at a time when your options are slim.

I also recommend getting an appropriate house mod installed. Even if you can't reach it early in the game, you want one where you can eventually relocate all your goods. It's nice in any case to have a feeling that there's a place out there waiting for you. :)

Take a look at all the other fine mod categories TES Nexus has. There's some great stuff out there, suited to tailoring the game to all needs.

  12. It is admittedly kind of...well, foolish to download a bunch of outdated mods when you have a source for freshly baked ones right here in front of you.

As for the best, please be more specific. Are you looking for quest mods? Companions? Mods that increase the beauty of the terrain at the expense of speed, or lower the view to increase speed? Mods that change the magic system, or mods that add weapons, or armor?

And realize, please, if you answer "yes," we'll probably all hit you. ;)

  13. ok i KNOW how 2 dowload mods n what not but some mods won't work!

Listen, guy: he's giving you help. He's uploaded a bunch of articles he's written for people just like yourself (and just like we all were, at one time) to assist in getting Oblivion to run properly with mods. And if you'd bothered to look before you made an abrupt decision, you would have seen that those articles range from very basic to pretty far along, including stuff you need--such as Installing Your First Mod, and Recommendations for Loading Order. It wouldn't hurt to actually open the articles before you open your mouth, and see what's being offered to you, free of charge.

If these still don't help, a polite thank you and a request for more specific assistance would probably work wonders. Nuance is everything. I'm sure you know about that.

  14. aah the biggest problem i face in Oblivion....i can't bring myself to drop my old enchated armor and take the blood-drencth shiny armor from a fallen bandit.

That's what display cases and mannequins are for. ;) Admittedly, the house mod I use has none of either, but I use two wardrobes to store clothes and armor.

  15. Hi, i have been getting mod's off of this site and a few others, and im at the stage where i have....a lot..... i currently have 253 (give or take a few, i may have miss counted) mods active and about 100 more unactive in my 'Data Files' and if i switch even 1 more on, when loading just as it is about to come up with the 'bethesda software' icon (just after you clcik to run the program and it loads for a second or two) instead it just closes back to the desktop or wherever i am at the time. No error report or anything. to prove this, i switched 1 mod off, and switched another 1 on that had nothing in common, and it worked, but when i switched the 1 back on, it closes again. i cannot switch any more mods on unless i switch an equal or greater (obviusly) amount off. i havnt read anything about anyone else having a mod limit, so i was wondering what was going on. i am using the latest (18) obse, and i have a pretty high end computer. can any help me?

The limit's 251, if I recall correctly. Above that, the game will refuse to run. There are ways around this. For example, you can run Wrye Bash, which merges some mods into its Bashed Patch, freeing up extra loading slots. You can also try merging mods yourself via TES4Gecko, though you'd probably want to first analyze the ones you select using TES4Edit for conflicts. Be very conservative if you go this route. It's easy to get a ton of conflicts and screw up.

  16. hey guys (ya Im stupid... I posted this in the other tech help forum w/o realizing there was a MOD forum) >_>

well I'm haveing a bit of a problem... I use CM partners mod and I remember there being an option to make your own partners

well I'm wondering if its still in the mod and if not where i can get it?

I'm sorta new w/ moding (this is the first game I really mod in)

also.... is there any MOD errors that could make it so your mouse pops up in the top left or top right of the screen and if you click it minimize the game? it doesn't always error the game (IE make you ctrl-alt-del and close it) but it does get frustrating cuz that does happen like 50% of the time -.-"

I seem to recall some reference to instructions in the description on the TES Nexus download site for CM Partners Basic.

  17. i now but my console wont show up so i need a money mod :wallbash:

    but thanks anyway :thanks:

Are you suggesting that if you type ~ you can't enter console commands directly from the keyboard? Because if so, it probably would be a lot easier for you to find someone to help rectify this, instead of getting them to script and create an entire shop for you.

    Just a thought.

  18. Have you ever walked past an archery butt in town and thought "How come no one every uses that one?"

Or come upon a a bedroll that no one seems to ever sleep in?

Why aren't there more hunters in the woods? Or people harvesting ingredients?

If you can think of something that characters in Oblivion should be doing, post it up here.

I'm working on a mod that adds NPCs to the world and am trying to make them as interesting as possible. :)

There are some mods out there that attempt to do this, but nothing on a game-wide level.

For myself, I'd like to see the following:

NPCs who are in or could be in relationships holding hands or crossing arms around each other's waists (assuming the local culture supports this).

NPCs bringing back dead game over their shoulders to town.

NPCs occasionally tripping. Squinting at the sun on a cloudless day. Running to avoid the rain.

NPCs bearing furniture. Hell, I'd like to see an occasional unnecessary NPC simply move from one dwelling to another.

NPCs rolling large barrels across town. Workmen transporting wood panels, etc. A person waving to a friend as they go by.
