  1. Thanks for pointing me to the Bethesda Forums website. I found out there, that it isn't actually a case of infinite magicka. It turns out, OOO just increases the rate of regeneration, so, that a powerful spellcaster will have so much regeneration, they can cast continuously, thus creating the illusion of infinite magicka.

Yeah, I saw your post, and the responses. That's a whopping increase, too! Should be able to reset that, though, if it's in an INI file.

While on the subject, are you aware of Supreme Magicka? Because it comes with an INI file that lets you change a lot of magic-related settings, separately for the PC and for enemies. So you can change the number of summons that can be done at the same time at a given plateau (expert, master, etc) for yourself and your foes, whether the magicka cost of a summons happens once upon casting with a fixed length to the spell or at a steady rate while the summons lasts, etc. Very nice.

  2. That's disturbing. But as I wrote, if you read the manual and it said nothing about this, then the logical place to post would be on the official boards, where there are a lot of Oscuro mavens. Can't help you, there. I've used Francesco's and Mart's for the longest time, but not Oscuro's. Great mod, though, from what I hear.
  3. Okay, I found it. The problem was that the file says the church is by the North Gate and actually it is by the South Gate. Thanks for your help!

Ha! You're a worshiper, and you can't even find your own church?

    Just kidding. Have fun! :)

  4. If you're sure this is a problem with Oscuro's, and not an interaction between Oscuro's and one or two other mods, then try posting a thread about it here. A lot of users frequent the official forums, but again: just make certain first that it's a feature in the mod. The manual should mention this. If it doesn't, you may be seeing an odd interaction. These aren't obvious, and they can easily fool you (or me).
  5. How long does it usually take for the really complex stuff to release?

It depends on the complexity of the project, much as you'd expect. When Oblivion and its construction set appeared, within a month there were several different replacement systems for leveling. But large, elaborate quest systems didn't start really showing up until 6 months later.

You sound really eager to get some custom races. My advice, for what little it's worth, is to set aside Skyrim for now so you won't be continually reminded of what you want and can't have. Consider playing Oblivion, or Morrowind, or doing something else. I would suspect a month from now things will be very different. :)

  6. It appears to work, though as David Brasher noted in the comments, two meshes are missing. Try moving the ESP further down towards the end of your loading order--in other words, set the time/date stamp to more recently than other mods you're running.
  7. I'm a bit confused. I've used over 1000 mods at one time or another since the game came out, currently have 250+ running, regularly frequent the official mod forums, and never heard of these three mods "that everybody has praised." Why do you need to change the console key? What does an IR receiver have to do with anything? By default, you hit the schwa key, right above tab, and the console starts up. No spell required. You tap the key, the console runs, you input the code you want. If you take out your mods and use the default console key, what happens?
  8. OH MY GOD WHAT HAPPENED AND HOW DO I FIX THIS!!!!

I updated BOSS and now suddenly a crapload of my esp files have been busted, they're "ghosted" but now suddenly Wrye Bash isn't picking them up and they're all 0 bytes, WHAT...

If BOSS reduced your ESPs to 0 length files, you should report in the official BOSS thread on the Bethsoft boards, here. But first, I'd look in your Oblivion/data folder to make sure those ESPs are in fact missing. Could they have been renamed with different suffixes? Just sort by date, and take a look at the latest.

If you want BOSS to make recommendtations about the latest versions of mods, conflicts, and Bash tags without moving any ESPs around, go to the Mods tab in Wrye Bash, and right-click on the header above all the files. Click on Lock Times.

EDIT: There's also a new GUI-based BOSS executable that comes with the standard package. It will make changes to loading order if you don't have Locked Times set, but allows you to roll those changes back, as well. I can't say I've used this feature, so I don't know how well it works, but it's a pretty simple operation.

  9. I've got a lifetime membership here on TES Nexus. Does this not apply as well to other areas such as Skyrim Nexus? Because when I go there, I'm repeatedly asked for my password, and when I input the password I already have for TES Nexus, I'm told it's in error. Would seem that registration should carry over between the areas, or am I wrong?
  10. Now the game itself for a vanilla game is amazing, good enough graphics, and the northern feel of it is just simply amazing. Also a nice piece i noticed in game and in the ini files is how they have 2 sets of object fade for terrain and terrain like items. So that you see the forest on the side of the mountain, and ruins, at a good distance with proper shape, while the heavy details are saved to be loaded at a closer range.

In fairness, this great effect (and it is great) comes from LOD mods created by Oblivion users. As with Oblivion based on Morrowind, so the devs borrowed some excellent mods from Oblivion to use in Skyrim. And that isn't a complaint, just an observation. They'd have been foolish to ignore all that work--though I could wish they'd give credit where credit is due. (DIsclaimer: I'm not one of the people who have worked on any of the mods Bethsoft has utilized in a subsequent game.)

  11. I hear so many PC gamers and reviewers who nit pick minor details of Skyrim to complain... Meanwhile, there are so many great things and details within the game.

This is a strawman argument. Instead of focusing on actual realworld complaints about Skyrim that involve a range of major issues--whether one agrees with these complaints, or not--you're simply categorizing them all in advance as being minor, so you can dismiss the lot and demand universal acceptance for your views. We all use strawman arguments from time to time. It's a very human weakness that plays well with our friends, but it really doesn't help us understand what others think, or why. :)

If you really want to know what major issues bother some people about Skyrim, read the complaint threads for content. Don't read to diss them, but to see where the largest amount of energy is expended. I'll give you a start: check out what people have to say about the UI, which is a major issue, or what they have to say about the removal of spellmaking. There are many other concerns. Again, unlike you, I'm not saying how you should to react to any of this--except to note that when you parade your views before people who already agree with you, you learn nothing. I speak from personal experience. ;)

  12. There are two mods out there that lets you join the Sixth House, if you're really looking to play evil. I've heard especially good things about "Great House Dagoth," but can't say I've played it.

In this one respect, I think Oblivion has it all over Morrowind. The guild of the Dark Brotherhood probably has the most imaginative quest line of the lot (not that this is saying anything, still), and it's pretty damn nasty.

  13. In an MMO, I can understand leaving a message. You've developed friendships in the game, both for yourself, and your character. It makes sense, and it's courteous to leave something a farewell.

Can't say I understand the motivation of somebody playing a standalone who does this, however. The motivation can't be the same, since they're not communicating to anybody they've played with. Still seems some sort of weird "broadcast to the world," but I can't state that I understand what's going on. If they want to stop playing? Fine, they can stop. Or, they can start at another time. Nobody really cares, since it's just them and their game. If they're trying to tell us all in some way to emulate them, they're not exactly succeeding. Whether a person chooses to keep playing Oblivion or leave it for Skyrim or play them on alternate weekends is the business of the person who owns the game, and no one else. :)

  14. I hate to bump an old thread, but this seems to be the easiest way to asking my question,.

I'm having the exact issue that knotssentme had, and unfortunately he didn't actually say what he did. I'm also having a crash at Dirty Muriel's Cornerclub, which he mentioned having as well here.

Two possibilities. First, if your problem is identical to the one in this thread, just send a message to the person who started it, and ask them for the solution they used. But if the symptoms are the same and the problems are actually different, their solution isn't going to fix yours.

You might just be better off starting a new thread, explaining your problem in detail, and listing your mods in loading order. But that's up to you. Best of luck, regardless.

  15. No reason those mods shouldn't work together. But as always, study each mod's readme file or manual, and take seriously what it says. I can't begin to tell you the number of complaints on the official mod forum for the game that resolve into a person not having bothered reading the manual for OOO, etc.

I'd also throw in a word for Wrye Bash. It's a utility rather than a mod, but does a hell of a lot, and can show you at a glance if some problems exist. As you add mods, you'll only want to use it more.

  16. Might also want to check out this article. Be sure to check the section on The Leveling Problem. It's worth noting as well that when Oblivion appeared, nearly a dozen different mods showed up during the first 6 months to deal with fixing leveling/scaling. It was perceived as a major issue in the game, and still is.

I actually liked the leveling. I like being at level 3 for most of the game and also I prefer the bandits to wear furs (when you are down at level 2) instead of glass armor.

So do I, because I simply don't level: my character doesn't sleep. It's currently at level 5, and has been forever.

But I think we're in the minority. ;)

  17. Well I have played Oblivion since it first came out on the 360. Since then I have bought it for my laptop and well, I have tried running Skyrim on here and I think I get about 12-13FPS. Lately I have been diving into the mods for Oblivion; custom races, dungeons, quests. I was interested in starting to create my own and be apart of this community. Is it to late? How many of the Oblivion modders are moving to Skyrim once the official CS releases?

Too late? Skyrim's been out, what, a few days? Do you think the hundreds of people involved in modding Oblivion and the tens of thousands involved in playing plenty of those mods are just going to jump at Bethsoft's PR campaign and abandon a favorite game overnight? It doesn't happen like that. I haven't noticed a drop in traffic in the official modding forum, and there are still plenty of mod releases in progress.

It's funny, but this is a copy of what happened when Oblivion first appeared. Some people would assume that Morrowind modding was going to stop overnight. In fact, it continued at just about the same level for 2-3 years, and is still quite active though on a reduced basis, today. I'd give the Oblivion modding community 2-3 years in turn at full strength--if Bethsoft's Skyrim modding tools are strong, and allow for fixing its worst issues, such as the UI.

Remember, these are modders and mod players. Not the casual spend-a-ton-play-for-a-month-what's-the-next-greatest-game crowd. These are people who know what they like, invest in its development, and stick with it.

We're not going anywhere. And I'm not about to stop working on my character merchant mod, either. ;)
