  1. Wow, that beats the night mother in creepiness.

A place of eternal suffering, which you can never leave, where you have to gaze upon the non-decomposing bodies of people you've killed until the end of time.

    Sounds good to me!

  2. Yup, another topic by Moredhel (who? shut up! :ohdear: )

I've just made me a redguard who will be a dualwielder, picked the race for the +10 in one-handed and the adrenaline rush, because I need lots of stamina for all those power attacks. Gotta be fast because dualwielders don't tend to last long in, well, long fights ;)

I figured that the Warrior stone would be best for me, since I'll pump most points into light armor, one-handed and smithing. On the other hand, I could do a little sneaking now and then, and use +armor spells from alteration, making the Lover stone a good second choice.

Now which health:stamina ratio would suffice for a nice game of dualwielding? 1:2? 2:1? 1:1?

  3. Maybe your bad habit is grammar? :)

Aaahhh sorry 'bout that, I'm really tired right now.

Why are you apologizing to a grammar Nazi. :wallbash:

edit: My bad habit? Shooting bears with my bow too many times.

Because the grammar nazi is correct, and the one who failed at spelling is not 8)

  4. Thanks for the replies :)

Kravick, you make a good point about the armor cap (I always forget about that one) and the turn undead thing. While the latter sure is rp worthy, I can understand how frustrating it gets when you're facing tons of Draugr in a ruin :D I'll also reconsider the Resto- and Alteration trees, since the first ain't really necessary to fill all the way to master and then latter will be a waste of points later in the game (even tho it's very nice from beginning to mid-lvl I bet).

Inuyasha, yes I've been playing with the idea of a Breton, but I already used that for a warrior/battlemage-mix... while very powerful, I want to try something different this time ;)

  5. Moving on to part 2 of ideas :)

    Enchants/Enchanting:

I'm not really familiar with this stuff, but I'd skip the perk until later in the game or when you're in your 30's. If I find enchants like +x % 1h wep dmg on light gloves, I'm sure to disenchant them and put them on my heavy gloves, even if it means it goes from 25% to 13%, it's still a boost. Plus if you wear the light gloves, your Well Fitted and Matching Set perks in the heavy armor tree will not count.

I would enchant my mace with either fire (cleansing fire to purge the wicked) or shock damage (Thor, once again), my shield with +block and anything else with either health or magicka.

    Alteration:

I would go for the Magic Resistance perk, and triple it, ofcourse. Only problem is how to reach lvl 70 alteration... also, stoneflesh and the likes are very handy for extra armor :)

    Factions:

I would join the Companions (but the werewolf stuff is a big headache if you want to stay true to your noble heart), the Bards, Imperial Legion and the College of Winterhold. I won't join the DB and Thieves, unless I would at some point include a fallen paladin rp in my play, but that's for later.

    Followers:

Hmm, I wouldn't pick a tank like Lydia to tag along with me, maybe that priest in Dawnstar for rp, or a 2hander kind of person to take enemies down while I keep the rest busy or heal him.

Can't think of anything else to write, so I'll just start Skyrim and see where this all leads me... hope to see some reactions here when I come back!

  6. From testing TheBalance's Battlemage-build, I started thinking about a holy man paladin-build for myself. Might not be as strong/fast as the Battlemage (and you wouldn't join the DB because you're a goodie two shoes), but you could be a near unkillabe tank with magical backup. When I say magical, I mean HEALING.

Wouldn't it be fun to see your enemy effortlessly trying to kill you? Picture this: enemy hits you and you either block (to level that skill) or take the hits (to level heavy armor) and simply have a healing spell at the ready to stay alive?

Now, lets see if I have a decent build for that. Here's what you need (in my eyes):

    Restoration:

I usually pick Novice + Respite for any char (half the cost for 150% more healing = awesome). Since you'll be having more healing spells, I suggest you go all the way in the tree. Skip the wards. Wards suck.

    Heavy Armor:

You're a heavy set tank, pick the right branch in the perks. Fist fighting isn't your style, fall damage is meh and if you think you're slow in yer heavy armor, buy a horse (preferably a white one, you shiny knight!)

    One-handed:

    Armsman: 5 points

    Fighting stance

Bone-breaker: for the awesome ignore armor perk. Facing a tank? Tough luck for him, you'll beat him senseless with your blessed mace. I also find the "thou shallt not draweth blood" from a D&D's priest/cleric point of view important for a paladin.

    Savage Strike

Critical Charge: for those moments you want a fast fight when facing enemies on the road, and get on with your stroll across the land.

Paralyzing strike: very handy if you need a few seconds rest to cast some healing spells or gulp down some potions without being in the frenzy of a fight.

    Block:

It's a shame you need the Deflect Arrows perk to get to the best: Elemental Protection. You want it. For the rest, put points in Shield Wall and anything else you like.

    Smithing:

Don't think I have to explain, just get the heavy armor branch :) I once made the mistake to take the light armor-branch solely for steel plate. While that is a good armorset it was still 2 perk points lost imho. Just get to dwarven and beyond.

Those above are the basic 5 skills you need in my opinion, one could always build it out with other stuff, like a little Alteration for extra armor buffs, or Destruction if you feel like Thor with your hammer and want to cast lightning as well ;)

Now that we have the build, let's pick a race, shall we?

Let's see which races have initial skills for the 5 above:

    Altmer: +5 restoration

    Argonians: +5 restoration

Breton: Resist 25% magic, Dragonskin, +5 restoration

    Imperial: +10 restoration, +5 block, +5 heavy armor, +5 one-handed

    Nord: Resist Frost 50%, Battlecry, +5 one-handed, +5 block, +5 smithing

    Orc: Berserker Rage, +10 heavy armor, +5 block, +5 one-handed, +5 smithing

    Redguard: +10 one-handed, +5 block, +5 smithing

In my eyes, Imperials, Nords, Orcs and Redguards have the best treats for becoming a Paladin. But have you ever seen an Orc Paladin? Me neither, so goodbye Orc. This leaves us with Imperials, Nords and Redguards. I for one would pick the Imperial, mostly because of the +10 restoration which already gives you access to Apprentice Restoration at lvl 2, which is nice!

If you want more of a fighter first, healer later kinda guy, Redguard is your race.

I've just written my thoughts here, which means this is not THE build for a paladin, so I'm very open to suggestions and criticism :) Give it a try!

  7. Sadly, I'm at the point where an ebony sword is better than the bound one, at lvl 24 :( I'm gonna focus more on magic than combat now, mostly Destruction, and will keep the sword for those close quarter fights. Thanks for the build, it was great fun playing it!

That's Odd, the bound sword should stay at par with the best weapons. It also depends on your conjuration level, finding items that give +% to conjuration apply. Is your level still in the 40's? That may be the problem.

Conjuration is 50, one-handed 54, AND I've lvled Smithing to make the ebony sword epic, that could be issue for my build ;)

  8. I felt the same way about Morrowind and Oblivion. I stuck hundreds of hours into Morrowind (I'm a real fanboy) and just over two hundred in Oblivion. The Morrowind-setting was far greater than Oblivion's, which I found very bleak (a province of human races, yay...). I'm just glad they picked Skyrim, not Elsweyr (even tho this is human land again, yay...) but I couldn't possibly be immersed in a game full of kitties :P
  9. Oh, and to keep stats up to date for TheBalance (and everyone else who might be interested):

    Perks/stats @ lvl 17:

Conjuration 48: Novice, Mystic Binding, Soul Stealer, Apprentice

    Destruction 23: Novice

    Block 27: Shield Wall x2

    One-Handed 40: Armsman x2, Fighting Stance, Bladesman

    Heavy Armor 35: Juggernaut x1

Smithing 54: Steel smithing, Advanced Armors, Dwarven, Orcish

I took Smithing because I really needed more/better armor, even simple draugr could easily pummel me to death in steel armor @ lvl 15 ;)

Current gear: steel plate helmet and boots, orcish armor and gauntlets, ebony shield. Currently on my way to the orcish stronghold south of Markarth for orichalcum ore to create and improve orcish gear.

Late edit: well, the smithing tree is definately my flaw, I should have used those perks for heavy armor and/or (if able) block. Better find myself a trainer for those skills.

  10. We all know the red dot on our radar: enemy!

I would really like to see a mod which adds a yellow or blue dot (to clearly stand out between enemies) on your radar to see where your follower is or ran off to, should be that hard, right? :)

  11. I think I'm gonna include some Destruction spells for ranged combat, take a look at this:

    Weak enemy:

    - shoot ice spikes with left hand. Enemy near? Equip shield, summon sword. Kill.

    Strong enemy:

    - summon flame atronach with left hand, replace with ice spike and shoot.

    - When the enemy is closer, replace spell with shield and summon sword with right hand. Kill.

    Multiple enemies:

    - Summon flame atronach, replace with destruction spell, hold back and wait 1 or 2 sec.

    - Equip shield, put destro spell in right hand, shoot.

    - Atronach dead? Summon again with right hand, replace with oakflesh/stoneflesh.

    - Summon bound sword, jump into the fray and kill.

The above is just a basic idea, I haven't tested it yet. I'm sure the ice spike is just a matter of taste, you can also use firebolt or fireball if that's your style ;)

It might be even easier if you have a summoner/caster buddy by your side, meaning there's you, your buddy and two atronachs. Instant win! You could also pick a tank (Lydia, for instance) and let him/her enter the fray while you stay farther from your enemies and cast spells all the time (hey you're a battleMAGE, you have magic, use it! )

  12. 09 is logical and realistic man. where the arrow hit would tell you what direction it came from, and you are damn sure going to look for someone that just put an arrow in you're knee.

Woops, should've added that I always sneak away from the place where I fired my the arrow from, enemies still come running right towards me instead of the place where the arrow came from, which sucks. Hard.

edit: and not just a few feet, I sometimes circle around the entire camp or move atleast 50 to 100 ft away :\

  13. Man I'm overpowered! Had those 3 hired thugs on my ass right after I killed the troll on the way to Ivarstead and I didn't even need a health potion, just kept moving and slashing (it did help that I dinged (lvl'd up) after the 2nd thug died, but still) :P

    Perks/useful stats atm @ lvl 10:

Conjuration 38: Novice, Mystic Binding, Soul Stealer

    Block 23: Shield Wall x2

    One-Handed 40: Armsman x2, Fighting Stance, Bladesman

    Heavy Armor 28: -

I LOVE this build, man! Haven't had this much fun since the first few days in Skyrim :D
