Actually there are good features (and ideas) in the new design. I'm just disappointed it didn't get more thorough testing and polish before being released Also it was forced unto us, no way to roll back to the old interface. I prefer the reddit approach when months after the new design release you still can choose the old design. Granted, it was because they knew many would leave if forced, despite reddit being reddit. On a similar matter, there are those obnoxious videos when opening any page. People seem to have forgotten what happened to "nagware" and they are now reproducing the same pattern on websites. My personal stance against that is tightening my ad-blocking rules hence offering less support to pushy sites. Definitely not a win-win.
