Do you have any experience with GECK or modding? Cos if you don't, then this is just a bunch of useless information.
-
Why are there only a few variants of weapons? Even in the National Guard Armory there are Assault Rifles that are all the same, no concussion grenades, no modified weapons, and only one kind of combat armor. That seems a bit off.
Also, if you can reprogram turrets to a slight degree, then why can't you reprogram protectrons? And, also regarding protectrons, why did the creators make them friendly to anyone holding an easily aquired Employee ID? Someone could steal one off a real employee and not be bothered at all by protectrons, allowing them to steal from the store!

I know that. I can find ways to get around that. There are animations in the game that come close. I just need the model and textures, is all. I'll work out the other stuff.
-
For a weapon mod I'm making, I need a model and texture for a Winchester 1897 pump action shotgun.
There is a pump action shotgun resource, but it is unavailaible at the moment, and doesn't look a whole lot like what I need.

I'm pretty sure that's the DLC for Mass Effect 1 that's coming out soon. 'Fraid we don't know if Wrex is going to be in ME2 or not yet. :(

Charon is the best, in my opinion. Whenever I start a new game I go get him from the Museum of History, and then we go destroy super mutants. Of course, there are lotsa custom companions out there, but I prefer Charon, set essential. Oblivion, however, has some amazing companion mods, that far surpass anything Fallout 3 has to offer.

This... this is absolutely brilliant! I'll definiately be downloading it when it comes out. Any idea when that'll be?

What the hell is this "GECK"? Ar har har. I'm just kidding. TTW is quite right, you can do any of that stuff in the GECK. And if you are too lazy, check out the mod RTS - Real Time Settler. It's a pretty good mod.
-
A virtual battlefield would be cool, you could make it so that you can choose the environment (Forest, Desert, Urban, Trenches, Metro) and number of enemies. Sorta like the RR Companion Vault, except that you should make it a separate room as to reduce lag.
-
There's just the Tau Drone Companion mod. There are Eyebot companions if I recall correctly.

Todd Howard said in a recent interview that he likes the idea of the Enclave Commander mod. Or at least he makes a statement that implies that, as all he says is he likes the mod where you "summon a vertiberd". That's quite indicative of EC, to me. But yeah, if modders wanted to work at Bethesda, then they'd sent in an application. That's kinda how jobs work. Someone would have to be absoluely amzing for Bethesda to go out and ask them to work there. Considering that the GECK is just part of what the devs used to build the game. There are so many things Bethesda can do that we modders can't, and there are many things modders make that Bethesda never thought up. Like the Script Extender, and the Mod Manager, among other things.
-
You 'don't know the modding side'? I assume you mean using the GECK. I'm not sure how to get the armor into the GECK, but I could easily do whatever else is needed. That includes making some sort of quest or somesuch to get it and, of course, making the stats to your specifications.

How do I change a weapon's min and max spread in its script? If it is possible, of course.
-
I, personally, just don't like energy weapons, explosives or big guns. I'll waste some minigun rounds from time to time, just for the sake of it. Energy weapons, to me, are just silly. Laser and plasma weaponry is impractical and to be honest, overdone. You can find energy guns in many, many other sci fi games and movies, like Warhammer 40K, Halo, Star Wars, Star Trek, Starcraft, to name a few. It's completely illogical to use expensive, ineffective lasers or plasma guns when regular weapons would be more effective, and cheaper. Plus, small guns have more variety. You could change the intensity and colour of a laser beam, but that's really it. Conventional firearms use all kinds of bullets and shells, and have many modifications and variations available. A plasma or laser shotgun would just be odd, for example. In short, small guns are just better by default. Energy weapons are lame.

The EyeCandy replacer by exnem is probably the best. The HGEC edition (which requires the base replacer, last time I checked) improves it even further. Just look at the pictures, to see the customization options and whatnot. I highly recommend it. Sadly, there's nothing of the same quality for Fallout 3, which I moved on to recently.

WaitingLeaveDay is a special script command for Dogmeat that makes him go to Vault 101 after being left waiting for a few days. And, as for the problem with your companion starting a conversation with you is because in their hire quest there probably is the command StartConversation. In the script, it will probably appear as:
StartConversation player (name of topic)
The part in brackets will be the topic he is greeting you with. In Dogmeat's case, it is the topic about his dead master, his hiring topic. Not that hard to fix in the end, you just seemed to have made the mistake of directly copying Dogmeat, who is a nonstandard companion.

That's a well known random encounter. It happens based on your luck stat, like most encounters. There are a few places where it happens more often, namely Fort Bannister. Sometimes it won't happen at all. It's usually pretty hard to find the gun after it falls. I guess you're just lucky.

Cool. Making meshes and textures aren't my forte, but I can do everything else.

So I was messing around in the GECK, and had a great idea. I created a new projectile based on the Railway Spike, except I made it the spikes explode after a few seconds. After making a new weapon to use this wonder, I tested it out and it is amazing. So amazing that it makes me wonder what else can be done. I will definitely be making a modded weapon to upload to the Nexus, but first I want to ask: what do want in this weapon, and what do you think can be done? I've already experimented and made a Flak Cannon, to let you know.
But I also have a few questions for people who are more experienced. First, is it possible to make a projectile stick in living actors like it sticks in static objects and dead actors? If this is possible, then it makes this mod even greater. Also, is it possible to make an actor's torso get stuck to a wall, as with limbs and stuff, on death from a critical hit?
And for people reading this, would you rather have the spikes explode on a timer, like a grenade, or be proximity explosives, like mines? Should it set things on fire? Should the weapon have a scope? Should it be automatic (Even though that would make it ludicrously powerful)? Would someone be willing to make a mesh and/or textures? Cos right now the regular rifle looks like a vanilla sniper rifle, and the Flak Cannon looks like a minigun.
I'd post pictures, but my PrintScreen button does not work for some dumb reason.

I have a great metaphor for this. You see, there's Warhammer Fantasy Battle Game, and there's Warhammer 40K. They're incredibly similar, but I prefer WH40K. Why? I simply prefer the science fiction genre. In my books, guns are preferable to swords, to use a simple example. Play Fallout 3 if you want guns, and Oblivion if you want swords. Or axes. Or whatever. Another reason is the fact that Oblivion has been around longer, and has more modders, and therefore more mods. In a few years, this will change, and Fallout 3 will be at the same level that Oblivion is at now.

I've been watching anime all summer. So far I've watched:
Elfen Lied (By far the best I've ever watched. It's absolutely amazing)
Gunslinger Girl (The second best - very deep show)
Death Note (I actually started watching this a long time ago, but never finished it for some reason)
SaiKano (I watched this a loooong time ago, I just rewatched it. Very depressing, to say the least)
Higurashi (When I started watching it, I did not know that it was 50 episodes. I still watched it all, though. Good show)
Kanon (Ugh! My friend recommended this to me. Very, very lame show. Quite overplayed. I watched the 2006 version, to clarify)
Gantz (Not that good. No real plot, just sex, boobs and violence. And cyberpunk. Rather odd show. I don't recommend it.)
And that's all!

Unique ideas for your interiors, eh? Well, I've got a few I can spare (I don't want to give all of my ideas away). Other than caves, the traps I make are very, very mean.
Make a place in your interior where there are stairs going down. After those downward stairs, put some more downard stairs. At the top, make a chain reaction trap using a swinging object (like the swinging brahmin corpses or girders) that knocks over some Nuka Cola bottles or tin cans, so it sounds like grenades are falling. Now here's the fun part. Try to make it so that the cans/bottles land on a pressure plate that drops some grenades into a bear trap near the player. The player, distracted by the tin cans, will not expect this. Bam. Heavy damage.
Another idea would be to make a hallway with a hidden tripwire that activates a swinging girder (those things are great for all kinds of stuff!) that hits a tripwire that causes a shotgun to go off. Make it so that the shotgun (make sure that's hidden too) activates another tripwire, firing another shotgun, and so on. The player will enjoy this odd (and so far non damaging) trap. The catch? Have the last shotgun activate a tripwire that a) sets off a chain of mines on the ground or b) drops tons of grenades on the player.
And for a simple one: make a trapped teminal and name it something inconspicuous, like "Protectron Access Terminal".
And another: Make it so that when the player opens a door at the bottom of some stairs, they activate a tripwire and send some grenades down the stairs. Make sure that another tripwire out of the swinging range of the door is in place, so when the player tries to go forward, they trip that, so that they have to do some quick thinking.
Ooh, or, have a locked door that apears to have loot stashed behind it, but actually put loads of mines! Make sure the door is not of the swinging variety. The player opens the door, mines fall down, player dies.
For another, you could make it so that when the player activates a pitching machine, a raider will come in (to investigate, this is the main use of pitching machines), the raider will activate a pressure plate/tripwire, and that causes a shotgun to fire and ignite the area. Make sure you place the explosive gas trap.
Another would be to make a hallway full of gas, where at one point there is a hole in the floor leading down a long drop to the player's doom. The main part of this is to make a well hidden grenade trap that falls into a bear trap when the player activates a pressure plate when they jump to the other side of the hole. The gas ingites, hopefully knocking the player down the hole.
And one final one would be to make a tunnel full of water - and gas. Make one point where there are laser tripwires (as found in Raven Rock), and place tons of them vertically and horizontally in this tunnel, so it looks like a laser field from a classic heist movie. If they player fails to avoid these, shotguns on dry land connected to the flooded tunnel with gas will go off, knocking the player down. and possibly drowning them. I'm not sure about this one. It may or may not work.
Also, there is a trap in the GECK called the 'Motion Senser" - I am not sure how it works, but if someone could find out, I would greatly sppreciate it. And there you have it. A list of very dastardly traps, brought to you by me.

Er... if you want ideas, then you'll need to give more details. What architecture type is being used? Metro? Industrial? Utility? Vault? If you're making caves, then I'm definitely the best person to ask. I'm, like, the cave master or something. But really, you need to give more details. I have tons of ideas squirming around in my head, but without enough information, I can't help.
