Generalized CTD issue
Surtr564 replied to Surtr564's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
Dubious, thank you kindly for your help, while it did not solve my fundamental problem, it has made my experience and my laptop run more smoothly. And less malware is always good. It was the meshes. For some ungodly reason, the NCR Trooper, MP and Fatigues were causing the game to CTD. Maybe some other outfits will crop up with those same issues. But now I can double and triple check them. So thank you kindly, for your patient advice. And thank all who took the time to see if they too could find an issue or an answer. -

Surtr564 replied to Surtr564's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
So, if anyone is interested, the Vikki and Vance issue has been solved. Turns out the mesh for one of the outfits, specifically the Female Wasteland Wanderer outfit, got corrupted somehow, it caused an immediate CTD when equipped to a "living" actor, or so I suspect since I cannot remember how I obtained it, if it was a female corpse or a male one, so I had to fix it using Outfit Studio and "create" it with BodySlide. Now it doesn't crash when equipped and at least that CTD is solved. And that does give me a hint that maybe the crashes around NCR related places have to do with a similar thing. -

Ah, hadn't seen your reply. I've been checking the event log around the time of the crash and any error I see I search to look for a fix. Then I restart the laptop, try again, crash again, see the event log, see the same error glaring at me. And a lot of errors linked to the fact that the freeware AV I have running as a first line of defense is deactivated and keeps trying to turn on. I think I'll uninstall it. -

At least I learned a lot about how to fix a lot of other issues on my pc...I guess. -

No one has an answer how to fix that exception other than "buy this" or "download that". I caved. I bought a "fixer", that also has all those other bells and whistles, I ran it. It dected the exception. It added the option to fix it. So I did. I open up the game, load the save, open the door to the Vikki and Vance, it loads. I am pleased. Then I run my litmus test, entering Lt Hayes' tent. You can probably guess where I am going. It crashed. I run the fixer again, and who do I see there but my good old friend Fallout NV. So I go to Steam to revalidate the files. It tells me I have 19 files that are less than kosher. Wait for the download, patch it with the 4gb patch. Run it again. Crash trying to enter the tent. Fix it again. Crash again. 18174517 _ NewVegasAntiCrash FalloutNV.exe18174517 _ 04400000 07050000 nvac.dll18174517 _ 0B670000 05010060 nvse_1_4.dll18174517 _ 772C0000 06011DB0 ntdll.dll18174530 e 0047CF1E C0000005 FalloutNV.exe18174530 _ LEVELED_ LIST_ERR18174530 e 0047CF1E C0000005 FalloutNV.exe18174530 _ LEVELED_ LIST_ERR18174530 e 0047CF1E C0000005 FalloutNV.exe18174530 _ LEVELED_ LIST_ERR18174530 e 0047CF1E C0000005 FalloutNV.exe18174530 _ LEVELED_ LIST_ERR18174530 e 0047CF1E C0000005 FalloutNV.exe181745~TRUNCATE _ 18174532 _ LEVELED_ LIST_ERR18174532 e 0047CF1E C0000005 FalloutNV.exe18174532 _ LEVELED_ LIST_ERR18174532 e 0047CF1E C0000005 FalloutNV.exe18174532 _ LEVELED_ LIST_ERR18174707 e 00E8C00D C0000005 FalloutNV.exe18174707 r 00E8C9A9 00E8C00D FalloutNV.exe18174707 h 00E8CD2E 8B0E8B51 FalloutNV.exe18174707 h 00E8CD30 8B513056 FalloutNV.exe18174707 n 00000000 00E8CD3618174707 r 00E8CD36 00000000 FalloutNV.exe18174716 q 00E8CD54 C0000409 FalloutNV.exe18174716 _ CRASHSAV E_THREAD FalloutNV.exe18174716 ! I started a new game precisely because I installed new mods. My most recent save is one I started with this exact load order and modlist. And I run them over on LOOT and check the conflicts with FNVEdit. So it most likely is the DEP issue. I did use the Game Booster function on Driver Booster and I have disabled the Steam Overlay since I first started buying games there. I also used CCleaner to repair the registry...I did have a lot of crap there. -

The plugins got auto-deactivated when I built the Bashed Patch, so I didn't know if I needed to keep them there or if I could remove them. I have NVSE, NX, JIP, NVTF and NVAC. Those are the only mods I have in my Data folder, I made a clean install after it kept crashing the first time. Ah, and I did use BSA Decompressor. Not sure if that's important. There are a couple of .nam extensions floating in the folder that I really have no idea where they came from. -
