Custom armor vats crash
hagyjalbeken replied to hagyjalbeken's topic in Fallout 4's Creation Kit and Modders
I've tried with both seemingly correct segment data and how it comes out of outfit studio by default (full torso, no dismemberment), both caused crash After that i re-did the whole process for the underarmor/base armor, which was blender model -> obj -> outfit studio fitting and bone weight copy from vanilla base body -> correct weights -> export nif, and now it seems to work without crash, however i skipped the segment paint part so its just one giant torso without dismemberment now. At least it doesn't ctd when i enter vats. I don't think there is another way (or at least i couldnt find any) to add correct vats values/dismemberment other than painting them in outfit studio using vanilla bodies/armors as a guide. All i can think of that i'll try to experiment with painting until something "stable" comes out  Anyway, thanks for the help. EDIT: There is a value in every segment called "parent array index" in nifskope. It has a long number as a value, the same for every segment. And for some reason every torso segment value was missing the last digit (5) for me, probably because i was using an outdated version of nifskope months ago when i first tried to add the armor, and it somehow stuck, outfit studio didnt correct it. So it was my derp. -
I am trying to add a custom armor set. I followed the tutorial on the wiki. The models are all working fine and acceptably animated. But when i give it to an npc and try to aim at him in vats, it immediately crashes to desktop. It has several pieces, (an underarmor and some accessories), and no matter which piece i give them, it crashes. I've tried to add proper vats segments in outfit studio, didnt help. (As far as i know it should work with the default segments outfit studio adds, just working weird) Can anybody help?

We,, freud was pretty much obsessed with the idea that everything stems from the desire to have sex with our parents, so he was quite extreme. I am more like in-between the two arguments. i think most social behaiviors stem form reprodiction instincts, but getting more civilized and intelligent gives it controls so it's much less obvious, but it has melted into our ways of living and thinking. Males and females are much more contented when they fit into their roles that are connencted with reproduction success (powerful and strong/desirable and caring), but the goal of these behaiviours isnt direct reproducrion anymore, just the feeling that comes with the possibility of being the most succesful in dna sharing. Well, i think i do agree with this statement (or do i?... ;) ) Yeah i agree that not only technical barriers that come from voice acting, but lazyness is also very much guilty in this dialogue/story dumbing-down trend. Just see fallout nv for example, whre the technical background is the same as for fo3, but they put just a little more effonrt into this aspect of the game, and it already feels a lot more like an rpg. Well, i wont call it lazyness, more like a lack of passion and love for their creation. They do put a lot of effort into graphics and action elements which are considered to be the main selling point for a game (are not imo), but things that make a game unique and memorable don't get any attention. They work hard on creating something that instantly and certainly makes profit, but its just dull work, and they don't seem to be passionate about it. i am affraid indie devs lose this passion as soon as a lot of possible profit gets involved (see no mans sky). Yeah older games let you rely much more on your imagination, in a good way. However, you can adjust your charisma according to your players looks, so i guess its just up to you (but an option in the game that recognizes certain kind of looks would be fun imo). I find it more annoying that charisma related options usually means either nice naive hero to evil psycho jerk. You usually can't play a character who looks creepy and is rude but has morals and wants to do good things overall (and also the opposite). i have to admit i don't understand either why some games allow multiple headshots, when its clearly possible to make it a bit more realistic while maintaining playability. But if i think about that most people not wearing heavy armour would be probaby lying on the ground after one shot in the lower arm, its not so bad. I mean that whole combat system is totally irrealistic, its just headshots where it is the most obvious. However, i had to giggle when anyone in fo nv mentions that it is such an unbelievable wonder that you survived a headshot. Everyone else does, come on...

Sometimes i think most barely unexplainable behaiviours in our society can be traced back to the need for the fulfillmet of the most basic instinct, wihich (asides not to starve, which is mostly not an issue in westen wold) is to successfully reproduce your useless dna. Almost everything we do basically stems from the instinct to have offsprings with quality and quantity. Of course it is less obvious and less important in modern society but its still very much there, even if not a concious choice. I think the reason for males wanting more power and being leaders so they can become "alphas" is to get the chance to have as many females as possible, even if they don't really want to actually "use the opportunity". Also that is why women tend to show off how feminine and "fertile" they are. Heh, i kinda experienced some of your stubbornness here, but arent males much more stubborn than females in general? :) Yes, i think we agree what the main problem with psyhologists is, and how harmful that can be, but i know that there are many good and useful psichologists who actually know their boundaries and limits and use those statistics and researches only as something they can lean on, and actally see you as an individual and try to help accordingly. i think that is why i love to have high intelligence characters too, mainly because it isn't only more comfortable and fun for me to roleplay, but also is usually useful in actual gameplay. Well, in FNV at least the game sometimes acknowledges some of your attributes, that is much more than most rpg-style games today, especially bethesda ones. I never played a low int character, but as far as i know there are a few hilariou dialogue options, and even that is much more than most games give you today. That actually leads back to the fact that they try to make everything voiced, and dialogue options just don't fit on the disc. That makes me even less willing to try various character playstyles, its just not worth it. i am already happy when there is a minor difference between the usual stereotypes (strong warrior, smart mage/tech guy, shady sneaky criminal type). Reacting to characteristics, or even race, i think that will stay a dream (things ike those nords wondering at a khajiit dragonborn at least a little bit f.e.). Pukes, yeah, especially centaur pukes, or do they spit? :) What i was trying to say, being ugly doesnt work to your advantages sometimes :) (BTW i wish there was an option for npcs to akcnowledge if your character looks menacing/repulsive/weird/charming, to refer to the former topic, but that is beyond dreams) A raider boss dressed in rags with a chainsaw that needs several headshots from a plasma rifle doesnt make much sense either, but i think this is some kind of usual game stupidity, like the butthole-inventory or sleeping off a bleedig hole in your head or healing it by eating cheese (actually just standing still is enough nowadays).

Ye, of course high heels are a fashion standars, but why are they, and why have been they for so long? there are stupid and unpractical fashion cliches, but they appear and disappear very fast, yet high heels seem to stay wioth us for the eternity. The reason for that imho that people really find them appealing and good looking for some reason, and not just because the current taste of media and society dictates it. High heels are a sign of feminity in western culture. There is a tribe in asia where females put rings on their neck until it becomes extremely long ( to the point where they cannot remove them because their neck wouldnt be able to hold their head), and they do it because males tend to marry the females with the longst neck, since long necks are sexy for some reason in thier culture. I think the base reason behind high heels is something close to that, but on a much more "civilised" way of course. However, i dont think that high heels are something evil and should be banned, in fact, as i said, i'd wear them more often if i wasn't already much taller than average. Its just that something so unhealthy became the "standard" wear for women bugs me a bit. And if by "costume" on males you mean suits, yeah right, many females like them because they are the symbol of money power education and being a "gentleman", and they arent nearly as uncomfortable as high heels. The only reason people find accuracy in astrology is because they tend to look for those traits in a person that are associated with their sign. I have a friend who is a bit narcistic and likes to be praised and be the centre of attention, they say its because she is a leo, i say its more likely because she is a lot shorter and smaller than average, and is the only chlld of a mother with a strong personality who pushes her will onto people. They say my other friend cant get into a deep and lasting relationship because he is a scorpio, but its rather because of the super horrible example of his parents. But as i said, the main problem with psichology imo is the thing you described, mainly that they tend to categroize everything and jump to conclusions accordingly, and ignore the fact that the nature of human mind cannot be approached in the ways of other sciences. Solving ones problems requires a much deeper understanding of a unique person than a psychologist can provide. However, they can give useful adivices and guidelines sometimes. About archetypes in rpgs, i try to avoid them. By that i mean strong heroic warrior, smart knowledgeable mage, shady tricky thief, gloomy assassin, and their version in non fantasy games, they are boring. If you mean that i tend to create the same characters again and again, well my males share some traits, but they usually end up different. Even my elder scrolls dark elves have different traits. The one time i actually wanted to create the same character it ended up different: even though fo3 sucked as an rpg, i really liked my character and when i found out that fnv storyline allows you to roleplay as the same guy i tried to re-create him, but somehow i ended up with that scarry faced dude (in fo3 i used a vanilla face). They are still quite similar, just the "solve problems with charm" option i used in fo3 when i could isnt there any more :) Females, since i usually play them as the me-likeness, are much more simlar (not that much in looks, just they are all white human and around my age, their personality is quite the same). The only thing i usually do, if there is an intelligence option or something alike, i cant give any of my chars below average intelligence, even if its unuseful for them gameplay-wise. Maybe charisma bonuses dont stop bullets but they stop people to puke when they look at you :)

About heels, i still don't think its some weird phenomenon that almost all the guys i know prefer high heels more or less. As far as i know its quite common, what changes is how much they care about it. Also if you look at all those armour mods for female characters by male modders, most of them also have high heels. And i think most of the time it isnt even a problem when its just an optional fashion accessory, but at a lot of places like offices it is the part of the dress code, its some kind of formal wear. One of my friends used to work at a company that sells stock exchange advices (i dont know the proper term), and even though she only did telemarketing (only connected any clients by phone so they never actually saw her), she was forced to wear high heels (along with a formal dress) the whole day. Same with my other friend who had to do her whole lawyer internship in high heels (they even had to be a certain brand). And noone tell me these dress codes are made up by women. About psychology, i think it has much more scientific base than astrology (according to that i should love sports and competition for the sole reason was born a "sagittarius", but i consider competitive sports just as fun as getting tortured), but most psychologists and sociologists i've met are people who like to talk about problems a lot and recite literature endlessly about it, yet they dont know anything about solutions. But at least they try  And of course it isnt useful in all cases, not even closely, but they can be helpful to many people, if they take their job seriously and know what they can do and what they can't. However i think its ridiculous that they want to categorize everything so badly, mostly things that cannot be categorized, and there are a lot of moronic psychologist who take these categorization too seriously and try to analize and "cure" people accordingly, thinking that 3 or 4 solutions can be fitted to 7,6 bilion completely different individuals. About roleplaying as ourselves, i did try it, actually most of my female characters turn out to be more or less like that (they dont look exactly like me but they are almost all white and around my age), and it can be interesting sometimes, but i guess i just enjoy more keeping that distance between me and my character. Not that i dont enjoy the former one, i do, its just that the latter one is a bit more fun for me. It is hard because sometimes even my males end up doing what i think is right and not what might fits that character. I agree about the easier decision making process, i usually pick a like-me-playthrough for that reason (that its quicker and more obvious). Sniper distance, i cannot know, i am usually at the other end of the weapon  I gave him a custom close faced helmet with a cute smiley face paintjob that gives a charisma boost though

What my experience is with male opinions with high heels, at least according to my male friends, they all think that it makes women look sexier (at least if they can wlak in it without constanly stumbling). It isn't esential for them to find a woman attractive, but it helps. We had a talk about it once, and there were at least 7 guys around, and more or less they all agreed abut the fact that there is a certain attractiveness in it, mainly at how it alters the leg shape and walking. Most of them doesnt give f*ck about it when choosing a girlfirend though. Most of my female friends only occassionally wear them, but if they do, its when they want to look more attractive (like a first date or a job interwiev). The reason i never wear them, just ones with moderale sized heels, is that i am already too tall for most guys. I do agree though that most men and women with at least averaqe IQ go over the heroic-romatic/boob-babe phase as they age, but not because they find them less sexy, but sexyness will become less important when choosing a partner for longer time, and personality and lifestyle get more important. They just look for someone who is clean and not morbidly obese, and concentrate more on how they gonna get along in life together. (also i hope that no sociologist pr psichologist has read your statement about them :) ) i figured soon that you are possibly not black, since there isnt much of them in post soviet countries, and you mentioned that quite early. :) Maybe playing as a guy who looks so different from you helps you keep the distacne needed for proper role playing, at least that is one of the reasons i prefer males (beacause imho making your character too much like you prevents you from enjoyable roleplay, since its not a role anymore, just you in stronger and prettier body). And yeah, redguards are cool, if i ever chose a human guy character in skyrim, i'd pick that race. :) i think with modders it is like with most online stuff that is related to any "non-girly" (like sims) game, you assume male until proven otherwise. True that i didnt do much to indicate my gender, and honestly i dont really care, since there are no benefits or disadvantages. However my males being non-bieberish and my outfits being more fallout style (something that looks a bit 50s sci-fi and also fits a post apocaliptic world where you cant even use the restroom without something trying to kill you) just indicates that i am over puberty i think :) If i think about modern society a bit more, i dont think that any of my characters, or in fact any rpg characters would cause any panic, people would just avoid eye contact and slowly go to the other side of the street/room/bus, or take pictures with their phones, just like when they see an accident or a crime or anything weird. (actually if you put sunglasses and a hood on my fnv guy he looks quite normal from a slight distace :) )

It isn't one weird research, it is more like a thing that was researced by sociologist psichologists and biologists many times i guess. At leat i've read this at many various places, and most of them were the more "serious" kind. And i think it makes sense somehow. Those tiny clumsy steps women take in high heels make men feel they need to protect them, and that is supposed to be feminine, also it makes the way their hips move more "obvious" since its pushed forwards a bit and it "shakes" more as they balance, also makes legs seem longer. It might not make sense to you, but if you think about it, it isn't more weird then getting horny at the sight of two rounded sacks of fat and milk glands on a chest. And yes, tastes cannot be generalized but most men do prefer small thin big breasted babyfaced females who see them as the big strong hero. Not surprisingly females prefer big strong heroes who protect them. To be honest, when we first talked, and i've read back other opinions in this thread and read somwhere you prefer to play as black guys, i unintentionally and unconciously imagined you as black for a short time:) I knew you probably werent, but that picture just popped into my mind. It happens to me with modders who usually pose the same character for their mod, i imagine that its them (unless its a guy who posts some overly booby chick, then i usually presume a weird teenager :) ) Same thing with forum avatars if it's some kind of character. Or if i chat with an unknown person on phone, they are emojis. Now i really-really hope i am in the minority with this imagination, with the avatar that is a pug tied to a zeppelin, and the fact that even though all my former mods had screesnshots of both gender and the female pics were first, its the male that got more attention in the comments. Well, even when my profile pic was me with a covered face but long blonde hair and a literally giant pink bow, everyone presumed i was a male. I dont know which one of my characters is more pleasing, but at least the fnv one can possibly exist on this planet and go out the street without people calling the police or... well, who do you call when you see an alien-like thing/monster/someone with grey skin and red eyes... ghostbusters? :) (and my skyrim darkelf also has some scars and covered in warpaint, soooo...) (BTW the weird poses were only for the joke, i dont play him like that, just when he makes fun of slutty chicks or something, i just loved the funny "contrast" between the poses and the guy/armor. :D )
-
If you mean that i am joking about high heels, no i am not. There are actual studies that prove it. Females seem vulnerable as they walk in them and guys find that attractive, also it twists thier body so their hips come more forward, also meant to be sexy. It is also very unhealthy and painful. About the mod example, i didnt give it as an example for "believeable", but for what is popular amongst females if we consider that they care a lot about trends and being attractive but don't want to look like a child with balloon boobs dressed as an anime fetish object. Also i tried it and it looks more believeble in game without the poses and effects. Yes, still sexyfied but at least not that ridiculous. The first link was a bit more moderate set of clothig, that shows skin, but something more "idealised romantic medieval ages" style, i'd say "girly", and some of them are even lore friendly. About skyrim mod trends, if you look at the hot files, there is always at least one generic follower or racemenu preset there that is made with this recipe. I am sure if you mention "skyrim mods" to a casual gamer, he/she pictures either some fancy environment mod or one of these. I also brought this up in response of sexy mods being poplurar as a result of the activity of both genders . In this case i am sure they have a minimal female user base. And yes, brainlessly installing tons of super shiny mods to drool over them, then wondering why is smoke coming out of their pc... that is also a trend. About player character-irl person relationship, it seems the majority of males either plays as the idealised version of themselves or as their fantasy sexual partner (and just a small percentage that plays as the opposite gender for roleplaying and story reasons, like me). Females however, they are just happy that they can finally pick their own gender (i do like the option too, as i usually also have female characters that i love to play as). About me, it's more likely that i want to become a creepy dark elf guy, since i have three of those :) (since morrowind). (heh, i just imagined if i suddenly turned into one, i'd be like "great, how will i explain this to my boss?" :D )

High heels are in general sexy. High heels are considered to be sexy by almost every male (and female) on this planet. They are acually the symbol of sexy. And an additional detail, they are uncomfortable as f*ck. They make females sexier because the way they walk seems vulnerable (and then males can protect them, wow!) and makes their legs seem longer. (Didnt make this up, scientific studies prove it). Ok i give an example of wht might be popular with females http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/53442/? http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/38053/? Both skyrim armor page one. Also, looking at the skyrim hot files, i guess i have the recipe for the ultimate hot female follower (which is the ultimate skyrim mod). 1: KS hairdos, doesnt matter which one u pick , just make sure it'd use a huge amunt of hairspray if it was irl 2: Skin mod that eliminates every "flaw" like dents, wrinkles or actual facial detalis. 3: A mod that adds some fancy (obviously overly saturated) eye colours. 3: The most expensive part, get a pc that handles an enb for your screenshots. 4: The actual part where you might do something, Race Menu. Make a nose as small as possible, face proportions of a baby, cross eyed to look a bit retarded (No offense, i am actually cross eyed a bit, yes i am looking at you kassia follower if you are looking at me, if you know i am looking at you :D.. ), also a slightly opened mouth to show she is about to suck your d*ck. 5: Bouncy boobs body mod. 6: Get an armour mod that shows as many skin as possible. 7: Profit. About roleplaying in games... you saw my fnv male character. He is a jerk, i guess he is like deadpool asides the assassin part, (i made the char long before i knew who deadpool was), totally like me irl :D When i create female chars, its not much different, i make them as it seems interesting. I dont give a molerats ass if i never become someone like them, i am actually grateful that i won't. So if my theory about someone playing a character that they want to become irl was true, then i'd like to become a one-eyed scarred insane junkie adrenaline freak dude. So i dont kow much abouut an average female player asides the things i've already stated above. About chargen, it isn't the hard part to create a realistic, but to create a unique character. I hope if i ever make a male race (not sure about it, maye) i'd address that problem.

Uggs are comfy in cold weather, but it became actually a damn summer wear  Not as much as where i live, but i've constatly seen it in american films and series and stuff that girls wore them in hot weather with tiny shorts and tops. Also they are ugly as hell (they make you look like you had the feet of some ridiculous odd cartoon character). High heels at least look sexy sometimes (not those platform boots though). About armors making sense, it is important for me and for a huge percentage of players. but now we talk about casual female players, who dont go for realism so much, but more for the stylish and feminine looks. Still i am sure that they are not satisfied with the "tera looks", because that is an extremity (that sadly becomes more common). Actullly for an average female and a male that doesnt think with his penis they are ridiculous. (also i am not talking about asian game and anime fans, thats a different group). I think there is a middle point between super realistic medieval look and oversexified and rainbow coloured tera stuff, and that is what most females are looking for. About obsession with looks, i think you see it right, it is a self-torture, females are quite obsessed with looking pretty, that is kinda the social norm today. But also males are obsessed with how females look. If they cant look like that irl, at least they can in the game, and i am sure it hurts people inside, even males (they are not as brave and manly as their characters and they cant get a girl as hot as the one in the game), but it is so usual nowadays (i mean this "perfect looks" everywhere, games, movies etc.), that everyone is used to it. On MMOs, i dont think it is self contradiction, since looking beautiful and sexy is a gender role for females. It is actually THE gender role. Be pretty and sexy and as young as possible is the first, second is being cute and nice. About the popularity of skimpy mods being an achievement of both genders, well, the big majoirity of mod users are males, so female audience can't be that significant, but i am sure that these mods have many female downloaders too. A "confession": i do have tera armors downloaded, and although i did it for the laughs, and to humilate my ugly creepy male dark elf a bit (i was mad at him...), i've actually found a pair of boots and gloves that are pretty cool and fit into the game too. BTW, i don't look at others screenshots too much, but i've been browsing the fnv section, and there are two types of female characters there (not users), one is "babes" as sexy as possible and posing accordingly, the others are storytelling shots, and those are either practically dressed or just with some little cleavage or bare legs, or maybe raider-style. The ratio is ca. 50-50%. Also, there are much less male char sceenshots, and they mostly pose for some weapon. Well, i think most male characters look the same, so no wonder, and that is not an offense, since there are barely any male character mods, and the chargen options usually allow only a few variations of acceptable (non-ridiculous, actually human looking) settings. It isn't that much better with females, but there are more mods for them, and even anime ones contain something useful sometimes. (i do plan to release a male race for fnv sometimes in the future, i've tried hairs, but the way layering meshes with alphas works in fnv is horrible so i got fed up...)
-
He didn't misinterprete it guess, your posts just reminded him of one of our earlier talks here, (his answer and questions were for me mostly i guess), since earlier we've been trying to figure out why there are much less female players, and one of the possible reasons i brought up were skimpy sexy stuff. I never said that it is the only thing that completely alienates female players, but i am sure there is a siginficant amont of them who won't even try a certain game because they'd think (with every reason) that it was made purely for males when they see the shallow boobified characters (and/or the supermacho weapon wielding musclemen). Also i think that there are many-many bugfixes, which is not a good thing though, since there shouldn't be a need for them the first place :) (However the sex-mod/real content mod ratio is shameful)
-
1: No, they dont avoid them, actually many females use armors with some skimpyness. There are many reaons. first, there are barely any other choices, especially if you want something unique. Also, since the social standard of good looking female is set to revealingly dressing, thin and sexy, and as i mentioned they tend to follow social "expectations', it works like fashon industry, it is kinda the "gaming" fashion. Just think about how many females used to wear uggs lately, they are uncomfortable and fugly, but the big fashion industry said it's cool so it became popular. Same with skimpy game characters, since most aaa game devs and poular modding goes that way, they will go with it and kinda like it. 2: almost all female armor mods are exclusvely for those replacers, so they'll use them. Even i do. But i highly doubt that many of them use the over-exaggerated or the bouncy boobs versions. 3: if they are at least a bit more unique than vanilla, higher quality, and moderately sexy, they'll go for vanilla style instead of shiny eyesores like tera. But the tera style attracts anime fans and anime has a huge female fanbase too so it will always have a big audience. 4: Because it is sadly considered to be sexy by the majority. MMOs: I'm not familiar with them. But i bet females don't play it because they can have big boobs, they just don't really have other choice, are used to it, and even started to like it, because "fashion", also it is considered to be sexy, and they want to be sexy. Especially online. And i think those girls hooked on mmos do want a lot of attention... Also my main problem withy overly sexified stuff is not that it is unrealistic or looks silly (however, it is a problem), but that it became so important that it gives less and less room for quality content. So females go with this stuff because there isn't much else, also they want to look and feel attractive, and that is considered to be attractive. But i am sure they want more content than bouncy boobies. So about jRPGs, your problem is not the games or the "genre" but the term RPG used incorrectly. So if i want some role playing experience, i shouldn't look that way :)
-
Yeah, sometimes i am wondering how is it possible that mainstream game developers still cant get around the fact that a huge percentage of players (even males) want to play as females with a personality, and/or have a quality and interesting interaction with female characters in the story, and not just being there for the sexual interest or as they say "aesthetical purposes". About armor making, go for it, doing mashups, even more complex ones, can be learned quite quickly (at least for bethesda games). We need more female clothing that makes at least some sense :)
-
Well i hope this "deviation" wont stay a "deviation", because it sounds like an awesome idea imho, but mainstream gaming isn't very famous for trying new (or at least new in mainstream) ideas... I don't know if weapon mods actually hold second place, but even for an older game like FNV there is a new weapon themed mod uploaded almost every week, and they get decent downloads. ( i have nothing against them, i'm just not that interested, i have like two weapon mods installed each game that i use and like and that's it, also my knowledge about weapons is that i know which end to point at/swing at enemies) (Why do you cringe at the term "japanese rpg"?)
