WHY SETTLE FOR A SIMPLE MODEL... WHEN YOU CAN HAVE THE WHOLE OF CYRODIIL..?
-
"In military organizations, the practice of carrying colours, standards or guidons, both to act as a rallying point for troops and to mark the location of the commander, is thought to have originated in Ancient Egypt some 5,000 years ago. The Roman Empire also made battle standards a part of their vast armies. It was formalized in the armies of Europe in the High Middle Ages, with standards being emblazoned with the commander's coat of arms." - Wikipedia I'm playing a highly immersive roleplay playthrough right now on my main character using Civil War Overhaul, RnD, Frostfall, Loot Degradation, Simply Taxes(for troop upkeep) and medieval economy with trade and barters, trade routes and stuff. Now, I've recruited my own Half-Century using follower mods and decided I'd enjoy the role of Light Infantry, equipping them with Light Legion armor so as to give me a reason for freedom of movement in the battlefield instead of staying with the rest of the troops as required by the regular legionnaires. Unfortunately, the battles in Skyrim to me seem more like a mosh-pit brawl instead of formation fighting, so I was wondering if there was any way to solve the troops getting out of line by combining it with Standards and Battlefield Colours whose abilities may or may not include: 1) Making Faction NPCs guard or follow the NPC who carries an equipped standard or stay near them. 2) Make your Followers follow your standard instead if equipped or a follower that has this equipped may follow you instead or can be ordered to "Wait here", saving time for setting up the Followers instead of individually telling them all to Stay. 3) Can give some kind of fighting boost to nearby friendly NPCs like say + damage speed since standards inspire regiments, tribes and legions to fight harder to die protecting it. 4) Opposing standards that are captured can be sent back to your faction's headquarters where you will be rewarded for its capture with an Active Effect like "Battle Honour" or something that gives your followers a boost in something like morale which could be substituted with an ability like "Stamina Regen boost" for all followers which could last like say 3 in-game days --- For the models, the Imperial Legion is easy since there are many references from the Roman Empire. Preferrably a bronze eagle on top would be great for the main standard with the Roman Numerals "IV" because Tullius commands the Fourth Legion. For the Stormcloaks(which learned from the Imperial Army)they too have them for they must maintain unit cohesion in the confusion of large battles. Blue banners or bear skin pelts mounted on top would be nice, though various Germanic tribes used many various standards from plain metal heads to decorative flags... Some even putting Human heads on them. http://www.primaryhomeworkhelp.co.uk/romans/images/soldiers/army.jpg http://antizionistleague.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/edington.jpg --- Maybe make some mini quest to go along with it as well if you see potential in expanding it because Colours and Standards were very important back then such as your faction choosing you to help return one of their units' lost Standards in a raid at a random enemy camp after you've returned your first captured standard.

I prefer to keep it simple and standalone unless someone wants to integrate the system in an Economy Overhaul(that doesn't just change prices). Maybe doubling the amount of guards around the place and someone can finally patrol those f*#@ing roads which are filled with Saber cats and bears all the time or lowering the price of materials which are imports or domestic product. Part of Barcelona's tax upkeep in the Renaissance was to help keep the prices of meat and wine down.

That's actually close enough. I hope you can work on it some more and I can't wait till Highwayman 2.0

Playing as a thief and as a vagabond I'd like to maximize the realism with the added option of "robbing" people in Skyrim. Having immersive patrols and all these added NPC mods to add life, I find the interaction somewhat limited. This would also be really cool since I got the flintlock pistols(course I find the reload rates unrealistic so I just fire them once and switch to my sword for the rest of the fight). After prompting fights with warrior-travelers who kept calling me milk drinker and pretended that they're just resisting getting robbed, I started wishing I could do it to every NPC. To rob someone, I think it'd be proper to have your weapons out while doing it to threaten the NPCs which will give you a chat option "STAND AND DELIVER - YOUR MONEY OR YOUR LIFE!" which if successful on intimidating them, would open up their inventory and at the same time give you access to their stuff(which will still be labelled as "Stolen") Course they're survivors and thus witnesses which would report to the guards. So, as an extra maybe it could come with cowls, masks or bandanas to hide the Dragonborn's identity? I know some mods already have them. Once again I tried searching for robbing mods but none came up. If this idea already exists please point me to it, I'd be most grateful.

I however doubt this mod would get popular except to the hardcore immersion realism dudes if the player gets nothing in return. So far, taxes pay for the government, city maintenance, guard/army upkeep and all that. But what should the Dragonborn get in return for paying their taxes? I've got all these economy mods to make it fairer but I'm still making making millions.

It should be consented, but nothing too tedious such as having a courier interrupt you when you're probably doing something important like all of a sudden you go out of the city and have a DRAGON attack, only to be interrupted by some guy saying "I've been looking for you..!" Maybe a guard approaching you everytime you enter a city when your tax is due? Heck, let's just make the Citizenship/Property an optional checklist. Course a mod needs something for it to be fun, maybe some benefits too

Unless the Dragonborn starts a religion(tax-exemption) I don't think it's dumb to still charge heroes for living in their lands.

Let's face it. Money becomes a joke in Skyrim past level 30 and you just accumulate tons and tons of gold that there's no balance sink to it. What would be great is if the Jarls assert their right to tax you for being a citizen(becoming thane) and a little bit more owning property in their hold(purchasing a house/homestead). Something to show the Dovahkiin his or her place as someone still living under their protection(Civil War and Guards payment) and prosperity(city maintenance) This is would be great immersion and a much needed balance to counter the 694,486 Septim accumulation as something that would constantly sink it. Plus it would also make the Dragonborn financially plan before he or she thinks about getting all homes in the 9 holds. Maybe some punishment for not helping the upkeep(ran out of gold) such as the City Guard will send you to jail for not paying your taxes properly or maybe confiscation of property or items(provided with option to resist) I would really like it if such a mod were to be made or already exists but I couldn't find anything on google search.
