I will preface this by saying that I love Skyrim. It's a wonderfully realized fantasy world with plenty of detail. That said, my one major gripe with the game is the travel system. Okay...horses and horse-drawn carriages are good and fine to a point, but still, the travel system in Skyrim is highly lacking in my opinion. I understand that the devs perhaps wanted to encourage traveling the world and seeing what there is to see, and thus limited the means of transportation, but there are definitely situations when you don't want to have to walk half way across the world and back just to speak with someone and sell some loot. Morrowind did it perfectly. Silt Striders, the boat systems, mage guild teleportation, mark and recall spells and the Propylon index. You still had to walk and explore, but the options were there to travel long distances, often times using several different methods of travel to get there. It felt real. Sure, you can just click on an icon on the map and fast travel if you want to in Skyrim, but that completely breaks the immersion. It doesn't feel like a real living world with working transportation systems when you use fast travel. It would be nice to have more than just carriage-drawn horses in the major holds. Are transportation mods for Skyrim on others' minds like they are in mine? I just think that is a big thing missing from Skyrim.
