  1.

wouldn't it be super if they tough of making snow accumulate on your clothes/armor while you spend time out in the snowing parts... when i got the game i went to a snowy part and zoomed out in 3rd person and waited for snow to show on my hero... needless to say i was disappointed lol

That would have required attention to detail, not something Bethesda excel at.

I remember someone mentioning the macro and micro detail..oh wait that was Todd Howard...nvm.

Oh bless him, I can actually smell the brown stuff through the internet when I see an interview with the Toddler.

    ROFLMAO.

  2. I too think the reaction of merchants to the character should improve the more business you bring them. How many times have I sold stuff at Belethor's to hear that sarcastic farewell "Do come again".

Actually he's not the first misery of a store owner. Anyone remember Phintias from First Edition in Oblivion?

  3. I would like to think that the PC version was developed first and then ported to the consoles in an optimised way. This simply wasn't the case we got a port of an Xbox game. Why? I thought most Xbox games were developed on PC's anyway, you don't see Zbrush and 3ds Max runnning on an Xbox. So really whats the excuse? Not keeping any high res textures archived is very bad workflow.

Say what you like about Dragon Age 2 but at least some form of Higher Res texture pack was released by Bioware. However in regard to Skyrim's graphics and to quote Todd Howard:

Obviously Skyrim on the PC looks better. It has higher textures and can run at much higher resolution.

We rewrote all the graphics and gameplay engine.so we can get a lot more detail on the screen.

When you publicly make statements like that is it any surprise we have graphics the way they are.

  4. Pavy: I'm bored too. I just want to be able to build my own little house in Skyrim over the Xmas holiday. I have the location planned and everything. It's not much longer to wait at least but unfortunately patience isn't one of my virtues. I'll content myself with making some new 3d models until it arrives.
  5. Its entirely up to you at the end of the day. I made the mistake of updating once and it made my game a mess but thanks to Win 7 I reverted back to 1.01. I'm personally going to wait until January, when Beth hopefully bring out a few quest fixes and the CK comes out. With a bit of luck a lot of unofficial fixes will then start to roll out from the modders. Do what you think is best for you. :)
  6. The problem with these kind of threads is they typically go off track. Yes you should not say you hate the game because the developers worked hard on it. Yes there are bugs, like every game. More apparent perhaps because of Skyrims popularity and the sheer size of the game. If you don't like something theres no need to rant about it and convince everyone they should feel the same.

However there is nothing wrong with people also airing their opinion in a constructive way. Such as saying that "Conjuration is a poor perk tree because [insert Reason Here], what can we do to improve/fix it?" in regard to potential mod discussion. Being really negative for the sake of it achieves nothing.

However when people do try to address aspects of the game that they themselves feel need "reworking" they shouldn't be accused of being the bringer of doom and gloom and being some sort of anti-Skyrim troll. Everyone has a right to their opinion and everyone else has to respect that whether you agree with them or not as long as the discussion remains constructive and friendly.

Theres really too much of this Anti-Skyrim vs FanboySkyrim nonsense going on at the moment. Difference of opinion is all well and good but everyone needs to remember we're are all here because we like the game right? :)

  7. I made the mistake of joining Ulfric with one of my characters. I hated every minute of it and I was playing a Nord. I only joined because I agreed with the concept of freedom of worship for Talos.

However I didn't hate Ulfric simply because he condoned racism. The Thalmor are just as guilty of that given their master race mentality. No I hated Ulfric because he had no charisma. I questioned how such a dull and intolerant man could ever be the hero/symbol of a revolution of the people, although it does happen in real world history. The man is completely dense. In fact half the time Ulfric sounds totally bored and given the resolution of the Civil War quest was not apparently that interested in becoming High King immediately anyway.

At the political conference hosted by the Greybeards, he demonstrates his intolerance, his lack of manners and his poor diplomacy skills. At one point I expected the man to leap over the table and take General Tullius's head off with an axe if he didn't get his way. A petualant child, a would be rabble rouser. Ulfric is nothing more than an agent of anarchy and his lack of a long term defined plan is pretty obvious at the end of the quest.

I took great delight in siding with the Imperial Legion with another character and gutting this dullard.

  8. This would be a good mod. I think Sagenth has the best idea.

To expand on it it should be a bit similar to the way the Harvest Containers mod worked for Oblivion. Basically you start with an empty chest and as the player fills it with coin. The model is swapped over for a quarter full chest, then half, well you get the idea. Obviously each treasure chest should have a limit and I suppose a script would determine what amount of coin would result in changing the model over.

At least thats how I think it would work in principle. Of course you'd need the CS and be able to script, something I'm useless at I might add.

  9. Matth85: I agree entirely they always seem to be rushing to the deadline and leaving stuff half finished. Understandable in these large open ended games they make I suppose. My issue is they never go back and fix broken meshes and half done textures.

The thing is I'm sure a lot of it is the accountant/leading executive who insists on release and thats why everything is somewhat flaky. It seems obvious looking at the mismatch of texturing in New Vegas that it was rushed into release. How much better would the game have looked if Obsidian had been granted more time?

  10. Actually looking at the originals a lot I wonder if they ever did them at high res. Theres a lot of artifacts from the compression and considering how many textures are 512x512, I don't honesty think the originals were ever higher than 1024x1024. Of course I could be wrong.

I know a lot of companies work at higher res and reduce them down but not all. Some people still paint textures at the intended resolution which can also be a good way of working.

To be honest there have always been inconsistences in Bethesda's mesh and texture departments. I don't want to point the finger here but they are guilty of many errors. An example was a sandbag barricade mesh in Fallout 3, if I remember it had 18,000 polys in it. Why? Other things like FNV (Yes I know its Obsidian) really poor rigging for the NCR Combat Ranger Coat and the Starlet Dress in Dead Money. Stuff a modder would be crucified for if releasing on Nexus. I personally think its just due to poor QA at Bethesdas end.

Skyrim is no bed of roses either. Normal maps without a specular map. Poor compression on diffuse textures. Throwing a bunch of nasty grunge texture overlays on a robe and calling it finished.

To be fair I really enjoy their games despite their buggy nature, but the graphics always fall short in certain areas. I fix what I can myself and look to fellow modders to fill in the missing pieces. ;)

  11. This trend is getting nuts. I've already noticed newbies posting threads in completely the wrong place. Admin points out their mistake and they have the nerve to whine, rant and use foul language in response. Not content with that they insult new modders, make unreasonable requests and already have forced certain new users to take down mods. I've noticed them challenge established "Old Hand" Mod Authors too and offend them at every opportunity.

Its seems manners and common courtesy is going out of fashion really quickly. They certainly don't represent the majority of Nexus users. Thankfully the admin does an excellent job of removing these rotten apples, but they seem to multiply daily like parasites.

Hopefully when Skyrim Mania dies down many of these Dovahkids (Love that term and the Youtube vid) will move on.

  12. Lius: It used to start to slow down when you zoomed in a big formation of troops, now its constantly fast with ultra settings. I don't have SSAO switched on or AA because I find them too much of a performance drain. The mod I'm using has 250-300 troops per formation, 6-8 guns per artillery battery.

Regarding Skyrim and FPS hit in cities Markath always saw a performance drain must be all the waterfalls or just bad optimization. Never saw a problem with the others Solitude was fine and so was Whiterun and I'm using Chris2012'2 High res textures.

  13. Lius: Well it was definately improved for Napolean and I'm using that overkill mod I forget the name but it lets you have battles with vast numbers of troops. Skyrim was definately faster perfomance in Markath which was always a little hit and miss before in regard to framerate.
  14. I'd like the mining and chopping wood to be interactive you hit the ore/wood with the pickaxe/woodcutteraxe a few times and you get your resources. Realtime Settler for Fallout 3 had something similar if I remember,

As to the other ideas I agree entirely.

  15. To be quite honest for a project of that undertaking you will need far more than one modeler. Not quite sure why you would want to convert Whiterun, the first time I saw it I said oh look Bethesda have made Edoras. In fact the Whiterun guards look very Rider of Rohan already.
