  1. I definately second Alive Waters for Skyrim. However you'd have to allow underwater combat again, why did they remove it? I want to explore underwater as an Argonian and sell all the treasures and junk thats down there. Rather poor pickings at the moment.
  2. Aeryn333: You've got my vote for this. However I'd also like to see Cutthroat Merchants, Alternative Start, Character backgrounds/history. A proper farming mod like one that was made for Oblivion. A getting drunk and falling unconcious mod like in Oblivion, better wives, options for divorce, more places to live or and a main quest delayer/remover called something appropriate like "I'm not the Dragonborn". Roleplaying choices for dialogue, more choices in quests. Plus spell creation and spell diversity, better conjuration, more followers and bring back classes I say. Joinable Vampire factions, joinable Necromancer faction and a proper fighters guild rather than a mercerary werewolf institution. Guild skill level advancement requirements too. Not a lot to ask really is it?. ;)
  3. Another idea springs to mind maybe you could have Witch Hunters and public trials/burnings. I was thinking about the character of Matthew Hopkins: Cromwell's Witchfinder General from the English Civil War. Not such a leap when you consider that to Stendarr followers Daedra and their worship is the worst form of crime.
  4. This sounds like a really unique idea. I think you'd have to make the location a bit out of the way, maybe near the game borders. Nords don't like Khajiitts setting up shop, they think they're all thieves and skooma dealers.

I love the concept though and a wealthy Khajiit with enough coin could probably set himself up in Skyrim. Certain Yarls probably wouldn't care, consider the Yarl of Falkreath as an example. Just give him coin and Black Briar ale and you have free reign in his territory.

  5. Ok saved as DTX1 RGB 4bpp, here's the LINK if you want to confirm.

Reopened in PS and it seems fine to me, seriously thanks, can't believe I overlooked something so simple.

    Kudos to you Sir.

No worries at least its fixed now. Mistakes happen to all of us, just stick to making frequent backups. :)

  6. Well to be honest being a 40K fan a lot of the Warhammer Inquisition is actually based on the historical Spanish one. I like your idea but personally I think the Thalmor Inquisition could be far better developed into an option for Elven players to actually join them and serve their dubious agenda.

I have no knowlege of scripting so unfortunately I can't help you but I hope someone with the appropriate skills is intrigued by this.

  7. I hope that gets done too. It looks cool kind of Predator dreadlocks. :) The think is it replaces hair anyway wearing it, so a full hair option is only really useful if you want to change colours, length etc.

I think it would look good on Argonians too.

  8. Well when I exported armour nifs for Fallout 3 it was exactly the same process as Fallout New Vegas. The only difference I came across were guns since in New Vegas they used a first person mode, however if I remember this was only a case of adding a first person node to the nif and following the same structure as a vanilla NV one.

Just thought I'd add that I didn't look at all possibilites only the ones I mentioned. So there may be some other cases where things are slightly different.

  9. Oh yes Threads is definately skewed. I think it was banned in the UK for a while. I remember seeing it at school our teachers weren't as PC then as they are now. I found it last year in the local library. It was aimed at being informative and cautionary, conflicting aims obviously.

However what is interesting is how it deals with social collapse and how even the most prepared governments can become totally powerless in the event of loss of power, inadequate emergency services and bad organisation/leadership. It also touches on how one weak link in the government structure can cause greater disaster.

I too always preferred Fallout 2 with its empty wreckage strewn locations. It always had the feel of humanity balancing on the brink of extinction. Throw the fascist Enclave with their survival of the fittest philosophy in there and its atmosphere had a very nightmarish feel. Fallout was more heroic in its feel as is Fallout 3. I always thought the various surviving communities should have a more living amongst the ashes feel with people trying to cling to the memories of the past, restoring buildings in an attempt to preserve their history and humanity. The Book of Eli movie had this feel in the first community we see.

Much that I enjoy New Vegas everything feels too well established especially when you introduce post apocalyptic psuedo superpowers like the NCR and Legion. A lot of the feeling of simply trying to survive is gone. Too many people play nice when in reality they'd be doing each other over at every given opportunity. Stalker got the type of atmosphere right for me despite its buggy nature.

  10. Yes that was a really interesting show. Not sure if its too optimistic or not really. In regard to the episode focused on Cherynobl which was the first stand alone episode before the series it clearly showed how wildlife and even endangered species had suddenly thrived in recent years in what is regarded as an inhospitable environment for people.

I also enjoyed the episode regarding the creeping vine plants that are continually cut down near Atlanta. The idea of a plant that was imported from Japan which then proved incredibly difficult to control was another interesting concept.

As you say the show always considered people removed from the equation and although similarities exist between this and a Nuclear outbreak its not really the same. You have to consider that a full scale nuclear exchange is going to cause large scale Nuclear Winter for many years and the potential for anything to survive that, let alone thrive is very remote.

I did look at the show and consider all that over the top vegetation would look exceptional in Fallout, the films Logans Run and I am Legend have a similar style to Life Without People.

I remember watching a British film called Threads which showed a more likely scenario, survivors dying of radiation poisoning, ash clouds, freezing storms and what was left of a shattered military carrying out a final mission of burning the dead. Grisly stuff.

  11. Actually I know its slightly off topic but do you know if any proper symbols exist for the Nine Divines? I don't mean the diamond symbol either, the stuff on the amulets in Skyrim is quite difficult to interpret.

Back on topic If you want a couple of Stendarr specific robe textures for lay healers or Paladins send me a PM. There should be more monks and orders of the Nine Divines in Skyrim.

  12. Please make this. It doesn't have to be huge either just make the faction joinable first, through in some nice Paladin armour and a few small quests and make it bigger later. The Vigilant order was a complete missed opportunity in Skyrim so I'll be looking forward to this.
  13. dazzerfong: Yes thats a fair point and perhaps I should have better phrased my remark more as a suggestion. However personally I feel making the weapon high poly and baking down is worth the effort considering that the weapon used in first person typically looks better since its more noticeable than a normal map produced from a heightmap. Of course you are perfectly entitled to do what you feel works best for you.
  14. Also, for objects as simple as swords, you really don't need to bake to make a normal map: using a heightmap is already more than enough in most cases.

    lies!

Yes thats very true. A simple heightmap will not suffice, true you could do it for rivets and stuff but its not going to look very nice. A low poly sword will still look low poly. You need to make a high poly model, chamfer a lot of edges, cut in a lot of extra detail, model rivets and lots of other stuff and then bake to an optimized low poly model. Heightmaps will not do the job.

  15. This site looks great thanks for the link.

I don't plan on just sharpening textures, just seems really lazy.

I'm currently working on making the war paints a higher quality and improving facial textures (without making the characters look like dolls.)

My current method for improving war paint quality is doubling their current size then pen tooling them into a mask. From there I edit in the little details.

So once I'm done re-creating the texture I should scale the image back down to it's normal 512^2 size?

Good to hear. Masking is the best way to do most retexturing. It allows you more control if things go wrong and it helps to make easy adjustments. The real boring stage is doing all the masking for a full outfit/body etc but its worth the effort.

In regard to your war paint textures it depends if you want a higher resolution, obviously higher res means performance drain for some especially when a lot of textures are affected. Try one at 1024x1024 make sure you save the document for later editing and do one at 512x512. I guess you could upload both versions if you want to be more friendly for users with older PC's. Try it out and see you only learn by doing.

  16. Enlarging textures as a rule is not a good idea. Scaling down you can get away with. The problem is that all the original textures are very low res so enlarged details are lost and the result is a pixellated, blocky and undesirable texture.

I only enlarge textures to serve as a reference for repainting not the texture itself. I can't write a full tutorial here because theres so much to cover.

Important to note is that you are working with images that have been compressed, painting over them and saving again further compresses them and makes them look nasty. I would suggest you try to paint them from scratch, there are a lot of useful reference textures on sites such as http://www.cgtextures.com/ which can be useful to any artist that wants to create improved textures and not simply enlarge stuff and run a sharpen filter on it, to me thats simply bad photomanipulation not texturing.

  17. I can see the value in it for people who need to keep in touch and use it for sensible reasons, but personally I hear too many stories about people posting up pictures of their drunken antics and then whining because their next potential employer turned them done for a job because they had the foresight to check the applicants Facebook profile.

As a rule I stay away from Facebook.

  18. Wow thats an amazing find. Are there any specific arena textures or meshes? I haven't had time to look through all the unpacked files. Pit fighting would be cool very nordic, very Conan. :)
  19. I would download one just so it seems more natural, but an underwear version of any new body would be ideal, after all, why would someone looting a dead body take their underwear too? That's just nasty...wearing another persons underwear....

    Draco856: LMAO

To be honest it made sense in Fallout 3 to use one, raiders etc don't care about showing off their wares, watch Mad Max Trilogy as an example. For Skyrim I'm not sure I really see the point for once Beth did a fairly decent job of the body meshes and a complete nude one isn't really neccessary. Maybe some armour might need one so the underwear doesn't clip with the outfit etc depends on the design I suppose.

  20. so i was in a fight and an arrow hit my hip and it didnt dissapear..ever..its still stuck there for like an in game week and nothing..i tried changing armor and it didnt work..can enyone help? and yes..i understand the irony,,,if i had the option this character would settle down to beind a guard

Its just one of the stupid bugs in the game. Not sure if they fixed it in the latest update. I'm still running 1.1 and yeah I got an arrow stuck in my PC's head which didn't go away until I saved, exited and restarted the game.
