  1. I have been searching tirelessly for that texture, if I could find the damn thing I could try fixing it. Anyone know which texture it is?

Is it the rubble that the OP doesn't like or the ground? I think the rubble is whdirtbrick.dds, not 100% certain. If its the ground then it will be in landscape/roads, but if I remember what other people were saying the roads use multiple textures so its probably a combination of cobblestone, grit and snow textures.

  2. If I were in your shoes, and didn't want to keep that gear for those reasons, I'd more likely just dump them in a barrel somewhere and forget about them, rather than start over from the beginning, but of course it's your choice. You'll encounter similar level gear on your own anyway, so it's not that big a gain or loss.

Yeah thats a great idea stick them in a barrel then go and do 30+ quests by yourself without a walkthrough. Do a lot more exploring, then when you feel you are worthy of them allow yourself those items that you fast tracked yourself to. ;)

Of course you could start again but now you know where a couple of valuable items are. I think you need to spend more time with the game and earn those items, Redeem yourself for choosing the dark sides quick and easy path. Nah just kidding go with what you think best.

  3. Radiant Raiment in Solitude. That is all.

For the record, I haven't played every minute of content in this game... which is why I asked people to include information so that I can actually research what needs to be fixed... so if you are honestly interested in seeing this changed, I'd suggest elaborating, otherwise I have NO clue what you are talking about.

Well to speculate the Radiant Raiment hatred thing is to do with the two High Elf women who run the shop who continually tell you how bad your clothing is and really don't seem to care less about serving you. Basically I'm sure they're based on Britain's Trinnie and Susanah who frequently tell real world people what not to wear but do it in a very patronising and annoying way. Something that emulates that is clearly not going to be appreciated in game.

I'm not sure if they're really a priority theres far worse things to sort as other people have pointed out. ;)

  4. The biggest problem is that a lot of dialogue simply repeats itself over and over. Example: " I work for Belethor at Belethor's Goods and Trade". Theres should be some sort of script in place that means NPC's say their important line once and later should simply say " Hello or Good to see you."

My real issue with the dialogue is as you stated the Arch mage reference, however in my case I had become a Legion Legate and I would constantly hear stupid comments from the legion rank and file along the lines of " I've got my eye on you" and "If you want to join the Legion go and see General Tullius." Whereas other Legion troops would address me correctly as "Legate". So the dialogue system works some of the time.

As it stands its complete immersion breaking nonsense. If you can fix any of this it would be a very welcome mod.

  5. No its not really cheating. If you are literally banging you head against the wall in frustration then a walkthrough is handy. If you feel guilty about it just don't use the walkthrough next time until you've really, really looked everywhere you can in a game for the solution. If a game stops being fun because I simply cannot work out what the game designer had in mind then I would use a walkthrough.

Cheating is when you start using the console to give yourself unlimited gold etc or rely on using the walkthrough for every quest in the game.

  6. QD Interface is the only UI mod I know of at the moment. It improves the annoying inventory menu a lot.

In regard to texture replacers thats entirely up to you depending on your own personal preference. Theres a lot of them so I couldn't offer reccomendations really its all rather subjective and personal to the individual. I really like Chris2012's Whiterun since its a massive improvement on vanilla but thats only my preference.

  7. I just thought I'd ask this here since its DDS related. Just noticed that PhotoshopCS5 has been saving all my DXT1 no alpha , with a white alpha channel. To begin with I thought the problem was related to the Nvidia 64 bit plugins but it also occurs with the 32bit version too.

Someone else on another topic was also having this problem. Does anyone have a solution please because its very annoying?

  8. abaris: The thing is sometimes the reactions of people make perfect sense. As a warrior I'm walking around Solitude and some guard comments: "Ah steel plate thats a fine choice for a warrior", but then you get the same annoying response from certain NPC's all the time: "I work for Belethor at Belathor's goods and trade". So annoyingly dumb. I think the game should have some script to make sure NPC's don't repeat the same irritating remark. They say it once, then after that if they have no more lines they simply say hello or nothing.

Moredhel: If only you could be a woodcutter, farmer or innkeeper who did a little adventuring on the side. Woodcutting and mining just results in some boring animation. At least let me hit the ore or the wood and gather resources because it allows me to participate.

pavy: Don't think about Todd's prattle, I certainly don't. It will make you feel much better and be less stressful. Todd who?

  9. I'd love bigger battles but it would cripple lower end systems and spoil the game for a lot of users. I don't see why a lot of the battles can't be moved inside the castles as you storm various rooms clearing guards, fighting your way to the enemy commander etc. Might be a little more interesting than the respawning of enemy troops, the battles as they are seem very boring.
  10. pavy: Yes but we should all know by now to take what Todd says with a pinch of salt especially when he says the game would be finished by 11.11.11, I ask is it really finished? I agree structure is necessary in any game however open ended. Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age a lot less freedom perhaps but at least in most conversations you had three options, plus you had a proper pure good or totally bad option to end the games. A bit to black and white but at least a definate structure there.

abaris: Yes you have to go to the mages college in the main quest. So my answer to that is lose the main quest. It was delayed or permanently removed by certain mods in Oblivion, so why not Skyrim. I don't want to be the Dragonborn every time I play the game.

  11. The big question I would like to address is that given a lot of people feel that the immersion is a problem how do we solve it?

Do we rewrite all the quests with multiple options?

Do we prohibit joining the mages guild if you are in the companions/fighters guild?

    Do we reintroduce class restrictions?

Obviously this all relies on the CK and some talented modders. If I thought it could be done I would support removal of all the voice dialogue in the game in favour of the Morrowind system of non voiced conversations especially if it meant more options to roleplay.

  12. I think your problem with this is something Ghogiel pointed out to me when I asked the same question. Armour is skinned and when you make adjustments to it you're breaking the skin modifier because the number of weighted verts in the modified piece have to match the original one or a total mess occurs.

Unfortunately the current max exporter doesn't work in regard to skin modifiers for Skyrim yet. In regard to resizing you shouldn't be extruding either you need to do it with the scale tool. You will also have to reset the Xform if you are modelling a mesh that will be animated in some way, because if you don't that causes errors too.

If you need to know statistics in Max press the "7" key. You can also right click on the view window name at the top left and select properties and then select the statistics tab and choose whether you want to display poly count, vertex count, or both and whether you want it only displayed for the current scene or the selected mesh only.

I suggest you work on items that don't rely on skin modifier at present such as weapons etc.

Have a read of this post by jaysus and it should give you some useful guidelines.

  13. Yes I noticed the same thing. Those Vigillant guys sounded cool like Knights Templar. I also went to the headquaters and found there was no quest or faction option. All I can assume is it may be connected with a Daedric quest, then again it may not. At present they seem unjoinable. Real shame.
  14. Hehe, jim_uk, wonders how long it will be before we are labelled as paranoid androids by a Dovahkid? I am still stubbornly offline on Steam too.

Well I must be extremely paranoid too because since Steam is offline permanently and officially blocked in my Firewall. Not a problem though because I'm using 1.1 before the evil ,extra DRM nonsense. Skyrim is also backed up on an external drive, so no BethSteam Ninja Shannigan Sly Stealth Update is ever going to break my game again. Just a precaution.

No updates for me until the organ grinder and his monkeys are no longer in charge of patch nightmare updates and Beth hire some qualified QA staff.

  15. We’re also planning on rolling out support for 4-Gigabyte Tuning (Large Address Aware) next week for our PC users. Stay tuned!

    http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1308295-update-13-now-on-steam/

About bloody time, I'll wait until next week before I do anything.

4GB should have been included from day 1, Bethesda need to realise we don't all own ZX81's. However to be the complete voice of negativity here, do you honestly trust them to even get that right?

  16. Well it looks like we were sold snake oil. Some of the textures from the HD2K pack don't look very perceptibly different from far away, so I think a lot of people WANTED to think they looked better. It's kind of like when an audiophile pays $200 for a pair of headphones that may not objectively be better than what they upgraded from, yet they swear they can hear a difference.

Needless to say I'm going to look at things a bit closer before including them now. And I'll pass it on to you guys to look at too. One pack I was considering inviting to the project is Z4G4's landscape pack. You can find it here: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2146 Any thoughts about the quality of the work? (Unlike the last pack, I opened this one in photoshop. It seems muuuuuch better :D)

Yes I think you might be right about those landscape textures. I think I may have got that one mixed up with dirkduggler's mod which I suggested earlier, theres so many texture replacers its hard to keep track of them all.. I 'll take a look through the textures I haven't got much on at present and give you my feedback. I'll PM you it if thats alright. I feel a little guilty about my comments on the Windhelm stuff, I just get wound up when people pass off lazy work as high quality when it isn't and I tend to be very vocal in my feedback.

I know people don't like being told what to do, me especially  but if you could presuade some good texture artists to work on the cities that haven't been done, I think that would go a long way towards improving the visual aspect of the game. I'm happy to work on clothing and maybe some clutter later, neckros is helping me out but I don't really texture weapons or armour so thats something else you may want to consider. Just getting down my thoughts though, you're the team leader here. :)

  17. Personally I'd like Necromancers to be joinable like the old Oblivion mod. You wear the robes it adds you to the faction until you take them off.

Vampires: Ability to not be attacked by all other vampires when my character is a vampire, ability to sleep in their lairs.

Conjuration: Multiple conjurations. I want to be able to summon up at least 2-4 undead preferably Skeletons, but not really weak versions. Also one conjured helper seems rather limiting.

Ability to create new spells. Levitation, flight, teleport. Ghost form as a spell rather than as a Dragon shout but longer lasting too.

    Non psychic guards.

Anything you could possibly do would be awesome. Really enjoying your mod btw. :)

  18. olfafreinhardweyer: I know exactly what you mean morality is so easily overlooked in this game. Perhaps its was purposeful so all players could enjoy all questlines. Interesting you should mention Fallout 3, I always wanted to join Talon Company or the Enclave but there was never an option to play the game from their perspective.
  19. Nah I'm not checking everything, everything I did check though needed work... If you are curious check it yourself

Okay took you up on that. I've been through a few and these are my findings. This is my own opinion before anyone accuses me of being nasty and trying to cause offense.

500wall.dds Enlarged to 2048x2048 looks like it been sharpened. Artifacts all over the place. Blocky pixels.

500wall_n.dds Blocky normal map. Alpha is a complete mess. Looks like wrong bit depth for the alpha.

Ign_color.dds Would be passible at 1024x1024. Nasty at its current 2048x2048

outwall.dds Pixellated, colour artifacts present in a few areas.

outwall_n. Possible to rescue normal map. Spec map not present.

    tgn.color.dds. Blue coloured artifacts present.

whbigblocks02.dds Current resolution 4096x2048 Obvious performance hog for anybody.

whbird01.dds. Heavily pixellated once again.Obviously enlarged and sharpened.

whbird01_n.dds. Very blocky normal map. Spec map is a complete artifact, noise, infested joke.

I'm not going through anymore. These are not remotely up to standard. There is too much shoddy work here. Actually its not work its just lazy. It looks rushed, unprofessional and clearly does not belong in a mod that intends to be high quality.

Perhaps the artist is not familiar with dds format and in that case I could excuse some of this but to be frank I've seen better work from enthusiastic first time modders. I coudn't salvage this even if I had the time. It needs entirely reworking from scratch by someone who at least knows what they are doing. This is really bad and I'm just being honest not trying to offend.

  20. pavy: Maybe it is age, I'm getting old too. Maybe for some of us its a kind of nostalgia. I wonder how many of us actually played pen and paper RPG's and whether or not that has some influence on wanting more options from a game that in a lot of ways is limited by technology, time and money and always will be for any video game.
