  1. Yes, well, but a was talking abour Skyrim

All explosive materials, explosive experts, and explosive tech was shipped off to Morrowind for the war effort. That is why there are no dwemer explosives to be found in Skyrim. :P

  2. Skyrim is not dumbed down. It doesn't have pointless stats. Or pointless numbers. It has a lot more depth than Morrowind or Obliion combined, but for the misguided fool it may seem that fewer pointless numbers or stats mean the game is dumbed down. It's actually much deeper and more time can be spent ENJOYING the game, not the most pointless thing and something that I simply couldn't give a sh it about: the levels. I don't know what level I am. I just immerse into the world and if you'd stop trying to play it like dungeons and dragons or world of warnerd you'd be able to play 100hrs and have just breached the surface of things to do. Not levels to complete, but adventures.

    Classes are pointless too.

All it is is purist fever: the core fans hate change and if it ain't a reskin of the favorite it's not a true sequel or is "dumbed down" as many purists are saying about Skyrim.

Same problem in any game community. I played morrowind lots too...great...in that level never cared about my level, and there was so mug less depth than oblivion. If you stop caring about the useless: levels and numbers and text, you'll see Skyrim kicks the sh it out of morrowind.

I agree with your conclusion, but your argument isn't exactly the best. Whether or not someone enjoys the unnecessary stats does'nt have anything to do with whether or not the game is dumbed down. The question here is whether removing those things like stats and classes actually dumbs down the game. I think that it could dumb down a game, but in the case of Skyrim, it has not had this effect at all. Variability and uniqueness of the character can be achieved to quite a bit of depth via perks, so eliminating stats really didn't eliminate any depth as far as that goes at all. In my opinion, the game can achieve a much greater depth than what morrowind or oblivion could achieve.

  3. wolves that I've seen range from a greyish black color to and whiteish grey color. If you are seeing purple it may be a texture bug. If you just exit and reload it should fix itself. Ive seen just about everything as purple now, dragons, armor, trees, and plenty of other stuff.
  4. In my experience the soul trap spell appears to have a medium sort of range. You can use it at a distance, but not a great distance. Im not certain of exactly how far you can get but from my experience it seems that it has a distance similar to the flame thrower spell.
  5. Well they aren't going to be winning any beauty contests, but I don't think Beth "ruined" the elves. I appreciate the fact that you can't possibly mistake an elf for a human in this game, atleast. I also think it rather fits the high elves...as haughty as they are it is a great fit. The wood elves and dark elves could use a different look though.
  6. My biggest complaint about Skyrim is seeing threads like this one where very few legitimate complaints about the game are actually discussed. The majority come down to pure opinion, unreasonable expectations, and even claims that are totally false every now and then. There are things in Skyrim I would love to have seen more of though. More spells for instance. There seem to be very few now compared to Oblivion. There are many other things that I would also like to see more of, though I haven't decided yet if their absence is a bad thing, so I won't mention any specifics.

But all in all I'm having far too much fun playing the game to spend much time complaining about it. I have found very little to complain about anyways.

  7. My mage is only at lvl 40 now and I haven't yet experienced the issues with damage that others seem to be having. But couldn't it be fixed by just adding 1 or 2 more perks related to upping the damage that your spells do? Seems like an easy way to fix the problem to me. Is there any way to add new perks to the game right now? (as in player created perks)
  8. For me it seems like perks help to make up for it. I am playing a mage type character who puts heavy use into a number of different skills like conjuration, alteration, blade, sneak, restoration, and destruction. Monsters don't seem to be getting any harder than they were before. The ones that I used to have to run from, like trolls, are now becoming manageable at lvl 21 without me having to run all over the place playing hit an run with it.

I do run out of mana a lot, but Ive invested heavily in mana recharge gear and skills like conjuration and blade that allow me to deal damage while not casting. Perhaps I'd be having a much harder time without those skills

Oh, and Im playing on whatever the level is that is one step up from normal...not max difficulty, but right below.

  9. Ive only seen a few bugs. A floating hammer, a purple dragon, and

a particular werewolf who I was trying to help out by healing him, turned on me, even though if I attacked him on accident he wouldnt attack me. Was kinda frustrating actually that I couldn't cast any friendly spells on him at all

  10. a lot of complaints I've seen aren't legitimate at all. No hot keys, for instance. Page 7 of the manual tells you how to assign hot keys. Like the guy on the first page who said he wants to use a mouse, it seems like people just want more of the same, and not necessarily because its better. The current UI is a lot more efficient than previous elderscrolls games if you take the time to get used to the keys. Maybe it could have been better if designed specifically for the PC, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with it the way it is now. Other complaints I've seen are more of the same: reduced # of skills and things like that that have been cut. All things that we've known about for a while and most of which are highly opinionated gripes anyways. Again, change = bad for them. I wish the graphics could be better too, but it WAS a console port. I'm glad it looks as amazing as it does. Unless you put something up in your face, the textures aren't gona look bad at all.

As for me I have no real gripes. The game could have been set up to tweak a little easier for people who don't know about the ini or how to use it. But other than that I am 100% satisfied.

  11. I'm amazed that anyone could call this game boring. The questing is a lot more interesting than most of Oblivion and a good chunk of Morrowind as well. Visually it's fantastic, even for a console port. I don't think the complaints about the UI being too slow or clunky hold an ounce of water. Sure, if all you want to do is point and click like you're used to, then it's slow. If you use the keys to navigate it's fast and efficient. I love the UI. If anything it's 100 times better than anything in Oblivion or Morrowind. Im also really enjoying the spells system and couldn't care less that the majority of stats are gone. I love the voice acting and the culture and the look of the world around you really feels real. I never had that feeling in Oblivion without mods, and the environment in Morrowind only had that "real" feel to it about half the time.

The only complaint for me is that the ini takes a bit of tweaking to get everything working out just as it should. (both graphically and UI wise) This should be made much easier for people who don't know how to tweak the ini or don't even know that it can be done to improve their game quite significantly in some respects. Otherwise this is a superb game. It easily surpasses Morrowind in almost every way. (save for the main story, but Im only saying this because I haven't completed that portion of the game yet. I fully expect the main story to be great too)

  12. I agree with DZ302. The only thing I'm disappointed about so far with the UI is that I had to rummage around the ini to ge things sorted out with the mouse. Other than that, the UI is far better than anything Oblivion or Morrowind ever had. I don't find it clunky at all, quite the contrary, I find it rather efficient. I'm not really understanding all the complaints tbh.
  13. I am very impressed so far. The graphics aren't any where near as bad as some people claim. With the right ini settings the entire game looks stunning. Also, I like the UI. Yep, I said it. It's not hard to figure out how to use it and once you do it is far more efficient and usable than anythign Oblivion or Morowind had. Also, as another person said, there are hotkeys.
  14. Ok, I have to say that I'm beginning to think a lot of the complaints were a little over blown. With the proper .ini tweaks the game looks stunning to me, and the UI is not the nightmare it's being made out to be. It took me only a few minutes to get used to it and I think Im even growing to enjoy it.
  15. I'm not sure I'm very fond of the Empire. I don't care what they can offer, the offer is still "take it or die". Not much of a choice. I also don't think that whatever the Empire could have offered in protection couldn't have been supplied by friendly relationships and alliances.

I don't know anything about the Stormcloaks yet, but I'm betting they are a rag tag bunch of brutal terrorists. I would probably support their ends but not their means. (just a guess)

  16.

Plus I think we saw the Night Mother.

Nice to see it's not just a statue with dialogue thrown in, or an opaque dark elf this time around.

I think that may actually be Nocturnal. Notice the ravens :) You could be right though...duno

  17. The pic isn't leaked. It's from the official trailer that was released today. "animations of Skyrim" There aren't any spoilers in it, but there are some awesome looking spells and finishing moves going on! Take a look at the giant getting finished and that awesome looking spell being.... chaneled!

  18. On the official Beth site a moderator claimed Skyrim was in the 2 mil pre order range.

I'd really like to know how to get ahold of these numbers and compare them to Oblivion and Morrowind. Does anyone happen to know how they might be found?

  19. First let me say that I don't care which system is used. I only care about which one is better. ATM, since I haven't played Skyrim, I don't know which one I like more. Now on to my post

I disagree with the posters here who think that damage needs to be related to phsyical attributes like strength. With the possible exception of very heavy blunt weapons, strength has little to do with the damage that a weapon can do to another persons body. With a blade, it takes very little pressure to pierce the skin, and the momentum of a blunt object is more than enough to compensate for any lack of strength that the person wielding it may have. Once again, with most blunt weapons it takes little effort to inflict real damage to a person.

That said, I think that skill is a much better indicator of what kind of damage a person can do with a weapon. It represents how they handle it and that they know how to inflict the most damage possible with it. A very strong person who has no training in the use of a rapier will not defeat a much weaker person who is an expert. It will be no contest at all for the weaker individual. The same is generally true for just about any weapon.

Therefore, I don't think that these attributes are essential in Skyrim for accurately defining how much damage a person can do. An orc who sucks at swordsmanship should never be able to beat a Bosmer who is an expert.
