  1. Just wanted to shout an electronic Happy Yule to everyone on this fine Winter Solstice! May the Gods give you what you deserve!

Oh, and if the King of the Elves and his folk stop by for a visit in the night, let them have their party! Just be sure to come back here and tell me what happened if you accepted their gifts or not...

  2. You would think, with so many youngsters having the greatest Oracle on Earth at their fingertips (and her name be Google), you would find more maturity online. But of course, you don't. :wallbash:

I would say things like Google have created the opposite effect, as in create more immaturity. My generation I would say is very impatient and expectant of results simply because of the nature of the Internet. It's quite ubiquitous. There is hardly ever a time when an answer to some homework problem or whatever it may be is out of grasp; the solution is a some keystrokes and clicks away, or a forum. The real world hardly always works that way. But for those who realize that, the web is an infinite realm of knowledge to help foster creativity and growth.

Yes, the world needs Guilds and Quests. Where are the Masters, if for the Journeymen there are no journeys?

  3. It snowed a lot here in Italy, even here in Rome (which is like the old snowball's chance...), and the corrupt and inefficient road emergency services were so inept that some people were trapped for 20 hours in their cars on the highways. :wallbash:
  4. Ever since WoW seemed to become redundant (still a monster, but aren't their subscriptions still dwindling?), I've been afraid that they were putting off TES V for exactly the multiplayer reason so that they could leap in and take off where WoW left off.

I certainly don't want to see TES become the next WoW...the drives, motivations, everthing, is totally different.

  5. Are you sure you have the latest NVSE (1.0 beta 6 ) found here and that it's installed in the right place (which is your Fallout NV main folder where your falloutnv.exe is)? Those are the big questions, as it has to be in the right place, and it has to be the latest version as the last Steam update changed some stuff and required the NVSE guys to update from 1 beta 5 to 1 beta 6.
  6. Stealthrecon, good luck with your fight!

If I could suggest, I think your suggestions will be more focused if you present them with a list and don't get them to look at a thread (which is already long at a few days' age). I think you'll lose the edge that a focused list gives you.

As to what I would love to see (I know it won't happen now, but maybe in the future so I'll say it):

    Historical Western Martial Arts.

Simple as that. As to date and as far as I know, there has yet to be a single motion picture or a video game made that displays historical western martial arts of medieval/renaissance origin, and I don't mean rapiers as that's all over the place, rather the historical usage of the longsword, sword/messer, dagger, sabre, et al. Hollywood makes a mockery of traditional European martial arts in every single film they make.

They show either outdated ideas of swordsmanship based on rapier-play when we see longswords in use, and longswords were not used that way, the usual and inexcusable parry with the sword's edge, or they go the chinese route so that everything is all fluffy and whiffy and absolutely ridiculous for a Western backdrop (and ridiculous from an actual life and death combat situation where everyone does flips and turns their back on the opponent...compare a Wushu fight to one of Jackie Chan's brawls and you'll get the point). Chinese could be cool for an Asian character, but that is not how you use Western weapons...and I personally can't stand seeing it in fantasy games.

I know this could be done with historical swordsmanship, as well as historical unarmed fighting/wrestling, you would just have to raise the bar. For example, there could be the implimentation of multi-layered moves that would give you a simulation of parrying and immediately counterattacking while staying on the blade which would give an additional layer to the game's combat and dynamics, and add difficulty and variety to the fights. I honestly don't know how difficult the animations would be, but there's ample room for improvement over the vanilla system in Oblivion so it's pretty open-ended.

And if they just happen to need a medieval/renaissance fight consultant who can not only consult but actually do all of these things, well...that's just what I do. LOL

Don't get me wrong. I'm certainly not trying in any way to take advantage of any kind of unfortunate situation! I would just like to point out that there are actual options available in the world in order to more accurately represent what fantasy combat would be like (as strange as that might sound). All it takes is some research. It's Western-based so therefore it only follows that Western Martial Arts should be used. I am a huge proponent of realistic fantasy, magic-wielding or whatever it doesn't matter...it's fantasy...however a helm goes on your head and a sword is used in a specific way.

  7. Once more, at least half of the pirate copies will be sold, pre hacked, on disk. In street markets all across the world, one person has either downloaded a hacked copy or in places like Mumbai or Manila with loads of local programming talent just hacks it on the spot.

An STEAM isn't going to even slow that down! Its not going to make the slightest difference. And as I cannot bring myself to believe the devs are completely stupid and unaware of this then I have to ask what else are they getting out of it? because it isn't security.

At this point I'll let my paranoia off the leash. Supposing a cabal of people with a vision for the future of PC use wanted to get the public accustomed to not having control of their PC's systems. Oh wait, they have already done that most of us have more idea of whats going on on the other side of the planet than whats happening in our 'system32' folder. So maybe Steam is a tool for manufacturing consent for null ownership, where simply paying for something gives you no rights whatsoever (except paying again and again!)

If that sounds wild try, weaponization of internet space! does anyone here doubt that your steam installation couldn't cripple or destroy your operating system if it was directed to? Military intelligence assessments are based on what an opponent 'Could' do, not! what they currently 'want' to do. And if you believe that the folk behind Steam put 'Your' interests first . . . You are hallucinating! And in the extremely unlikely event that, that were the case, what about next month, next year. . .

Well I think we've heard enough from paranoia, interesting place to visit but you wouldn't want to live there eh?

But as for "There is nothing "evil" about making profit, its what the world economy is based on, its why we have progression". Er, well in many cases yes there is, that's why its down the $h!tter and ask someone in Zimbabwe about progress.

    All too true.

Of course, it wouldn't even need to be Steam/Valve, it could be some pissed-off fanatic hacker in a basement somewhere that cracks their stuff and puts something evil into one of their automatic updates...automatic updates that I have seen in my own personal experience that even when you set your game to not be automatically updated, it can get changed back without your knowing.

Steam already blinkered my pc one night in the beginning when it updated my drivers with drivers that weren't compatible with my gpu! took me a while to get that straightened out as I had a miniscule screen resolution and my windows didn't fit in the screen! Had to work through disinstallation, etc windows by just remembeing where the buttons were. I was in the end able to fix it but my wife, for example, wouldn't have figured it out as she's not into this kind of thing and just thinks it should *work* (and rightly so, she's Mac-minded, as am I). She would have had to call someone to fix it for her and all thanks to their *updates*.

Now if it had been some nasty virus instead of an incompatible driver... :nuke:

  8. This is the same situation as Morroblivion

Ah, you are totally correct. That's what I get for trying to think when feverish and the neurons aren't sparkling all together.

A long (but appreciated) answer that sums it up perfectly, thank you.

  9. I have a question I would like to ask, if an Admin is still watching this thread or anyone in the know--or better yet, an Admin in the know-- and I don't want anyone to misconstrue what I'm thinking about as condoning piracy or promoting piracy or anything like that, because I am not. I buy my games, I support Bethesda, and love what they give us...and don't want it to stop!

I have my own copy of Oblivion It has horses in it, and I would love to see, like others, horses in FONV. Even those horses, since people have coplained. My Oblivion-with-horses, my pc, in my home. No uploading owned assets. Right? Correct me here, guys, if my line of reasoning goes astray or perhaps more importantly, if it is too grey. :excl:

Now, could someone make a FONV esp that lets you use the horse stuff from your own legally-bought and private copy of Oblivion? I'm not talking about sharing assets online or anything, I repeat. And I'm not condoning the sharing of assets. You would have to have your own copy of Oblivion at home from which to use the horse, just using it somehow guided by someone else's created esp so that the stuff would work in FONV?

Could someone, an Admin, clarify this for me? Would this constitute piracy or condoning piracy? I thought I ran across a mod that worked this way in these last days, but I'm kind of fevery right now and maybe I'm not thinking straight. Thank you for your time.

  10. Can't remember for sure which game it was, (probably FO3) that users who bought on Steam were now limited to 5 total installs EVER.

Really? I thought your downloads were unlimited. That's what I've read everywhere.

  11. Im not sure if some people on these forums are annoyed with Steam because the latest patch has broken some Mods ?

Yeah, maybe permanently in one rather large case that leaps to mind: Arwen's Realism Tweaks, of which I am a huge fan.

Somewhat summing up what I've read here and there, Arwen has been *locked out* of playing her game for the last day and a half after trying this, that, and the kitchen sink, and in the end getting so infuriated that her last post in her mod comments says she'll never buy another steam game again.

So where does that leave her mod? And the people who love to play it? And the mods, if she continues down this road and Bethesda continues down their Steamy road, that she won't make in the future for the next TES or Fallout or whatever?

How much does it cost us gamers in the end when important modders like her are "turned away" by deaf-eared companies?

  12. Having the game take place in Skyrim might very well be a marketing decision. After all, what do you think the average (male) gamer would prefer; playing a game that takes place in a swamp populated by walking lizards or in a land populated by tall, blond warriors and ample-bosomed wenches? Oh yes, there will be blond Valkyries with huge knockers, mark my words. :|

    So true.

I personlly don't find anything wrong with buxom Valkyries or Vikings, in fact I love them both (though the Valkyries don't need to be buxom, just Valkyries), but it does seem a little predictable, doesn't it? :turned:

I'm sure they'll give it a very foresty, quasi-Middle Earthy feel...just when does the Hobbit come out, anyway?

  13. Their world was full of manifestations and portents and they had no better explanations, so yea, superstition I'm afraid.

But by that logic, all religion is superstition, from a scientific point of view of course (as long as we *hold back* quantum mechanics).

So; di vos incolumes custodiant (and shall we try to get this thread back to the vile upstart on Fortification Hill  )

    And yours as well!

If you want him back alive, open the console, click on his body or body parts, and type " resurrect " without the quotes and it will revive him. If you need to get your reputation back up, download the Portable Cheat Terminal from the F:NV Nexus.

No, I don't want him back alive, but thanks. Hmm, the reputation thing is interesting...thanks for the tip. Can't see it useful now, but in the future...who knows?

Yes, the game seems to keep moving on without Caesar. Lots of comments about his fall as I'm walking around, so that's nice. The dynamics of interpersonal relationships are much more well-defined in New Vegas than in FO3, I think.

  14. It's very simple. Debt is an illusion, and it's the biggest black magic scam in the world right now. Listen...

The Federal Reserve, which isn't Federal at all but a private bank, issues money to the government already with debt attached to it at a percentage. This loan must be paid back, with interest...now how do you pay back a loan with interest when the money you use to pay is already indebted itself?

    You can't.

This is why the Founding Fathers of the US argued hotly against a private bank system like we have now. So, too, did Abraham Lincoln argue against it, and in fact created the greenback. However, lobbyists and Evil Bankers (of course, there are always Evil Bankers at the cause of the Great World Ills). Do some googling on these things and you'll see. The Founding Fathers warned us, but the manipulations around the Crash of a century ago led us to what we have today, something we have to take down if we want to be free.

THAT is why there is an ever-surmounting debt, and THAT is why, unless people get together to change the Federal Reserve, which I repeat again is not Federal, not part of our Constitution or anything like that, this situation will NEVER change. It will never chnage because it is not broken...it is doing exactly what it is supposed to do.

    Do the research.

Slay the real monsters in the world.

  15. You want some good news on the Nexus?

The Elder Scrolls V has been officially announced: Skyrim.

And, not to repeat all the good advice you've been given, so...Keep up your vibrations!
