  1. @bben46: You can download programs, install them, run them the same way as in Win 7. So Win 8 is not locked down. Metro app distribution is locked down. @jim_uk: Just to clarify, if I didnt start digging around, I would have never figured out that UAC was still running. There are no dialog boxes or anything like that, you can still disable the pop ups. And maybe it has something to do with the 4gb extender not working, maybe it doesn´t.
  2. @bben46: Thanks for the reply. As far as I know, Win8 uses some basic UAC to protect metro apps (if you disable UAC via registry key, all metro apps stop working).
  3. @steveyos2: It might be because UAC still works in Win8 and cannot be disabled without modifying the registry. It probably blocks something that the extender is using.
