So I've been playing for a few weeks with a few issues here and there, but none so far I couldn't fix. All the articles about this particular issue are different, with different causes and solutions, which makes it difficult to find the right one. Leading up to the tragedy: Last I was playing Skyrim before bed, started closing out of the game, the game was off my screen, and as I started to close the screen my dog pulled out the power wire suddenly shutting off my computer. I didn't think much of it really. The tragedy (haha): Today I tried to play the game. I click on the Skyrim: SKSE launcher like always, it plays most of the Bethesda intro but will suddenly stop and show a windows error asking to look for a solution online or close the program. Here is the info: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: TESV.exe Application Version: 1.9.32.0 Application Timestamp: 51437ce5 Fault Module Name: steam.dll ---------->> The 'Fault module name' changes each time. It's been steam.dll, xAudio2.dll, and one other I can't remember correctly...something like gameoverlayrender.dll Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0 Fault Module Timestamp: 53875e9a Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 00061dc0 OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 0a9e Additional Information 2: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789 Additional Information 3: 0a9e Additional Information 4: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789 What I have tried: *restarting computer *restarting game *run as administrator *changed privilege to administrator *restore previous game version (back 1 day) *restore previous computer version (back 3 days, I had not changed or added anything besides playing recently) *launched from steam (works but obviously it screws up all my mods without SKSE) *launched from right click, 'test compatibility' (went to the game menu but I didn't try loading a saved game, so not sure how it effected the mods) *changed audio settings to 24 bit / 44100 Hz (after this it no longer even loads the screen and plays the Bethesda intro, only the little black box at the corner and then the same error message) *changed audio to 16 bit / 44100 Hz (the black screen comes up right before the Bethesda intro, but the error message still pops up before it even starts playing) *ran steam's 'verify integrity of game cache' (says '1 file failed to validate and will be reacquired' ...didn't change the error message and there's no info to view which file...grr) *reinstalled SKSE, no change *uninstalled-reinstalled Steam and Skyrim (nothing) *reinstalled, reactivated all mods (now it just CTD's in the middle of the Bethesda logo...no warning window...now the CTD happens no matter what I try to launch the game from) Now I am just WTF... UPDATE, huge improvement: Installed and ran TES5Edit through masters and load order. Now I can load up Skyrim normally but as I go in game I get a warning saying I'm using an outdated SKSE...which I know for a fact I am not. I'll go back and try to fix that see if it's any better. Meh...*cries*...I just wanted to play my game. (lol, frustrating). I will update after that.
