  1. I'm revisiting ES Oblivion after probably 18 months of not playing it. I've not been to well lately having had heart surgery and I wanted to finish off some of the DLC that I have managed to get through a Steam account just for something to do whilst I recover. I made notes and printed the basic keyboard/mouse gameplay controls off, but I need a bit of a reminder as to where I can find other stuff like: a) how do I bring up the map b) how do I fast travel c) how do arm with different weapons d) how do I drop and pick up Is there a web page that I can refer to? Any help appreciated.
  2. Hi Striker879, I have been away on holiday and not long been back. I took my laptop with me but the weather was unusually kind and I didn't even switch it on! The Yorkshire Dales are lovely at any time of year but particularly now when the leaves are turning - I can't wait for my next visit. Everything Oblivion wise is now working smoothly thanks to you and your continuing help - I don't know what I would have done without you! I have now finished the main quest and about to start the Shivering Isles plus a bit of tidying up here and there. Remember me mentioning the DLC? Well Bethesda got back to me and have told me that because I also have the Anthology Edition, containing Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim, (basically the GOTY Deluxe Edition), I also have the DLC for Oblivion by virtue of the access codes. Evidently the Deluxe Edition is not installed via the discs but by the Anthology Game Registration Code that is included with the set and is redeemable through the Steam Platform. You have guessed it! They have gone way to far in front and left me floundering on the beach! I am still very unsure of what I have to do and whether I can actually do it or anything. I have contacted them again about it, but perhaps you could offer me some input too. Basically, I have told them that I have the 5th Anniversary Edition installed, (which is not Steam) and that I have played out about 90%. My concerns are that I don't know what effect or bearing it will have or if it is even possible to run the DLC in with the edition I have been using, especially given that I have also been messing and modifying using OBSE and OAF and playing around with default and non-default directories etc. I certainly don't want to install another disk and start the game over again for the sake of the DLC if I stand to lose what playing progress I have made with the 5th AE. To be quite honest, I am about "Oblivioned out" now and although I can probably stand a few more hours going through the DLC, (if it can be installed and used OK with what I already have), I really do want a break from it and perhaps prepare to start another epic game, (I have several awaiting me!). What do you reckon? Just another a little query, I was going to cut and paste the guys comments and instructions in my post here but it doesn't seem to want to let me. How do I get around that one?
  3. I'm a completionist - I think that's what I might be termed as. To be honest, I am getting a little bored with Oblivion now. It has consumed most of my spare time for around 12 months now - first the PS3 version and now the PC version. It helped me through a bad period with my hip replacement but now I can get out and about and enjoy the good weather, I still get drawn to it and there doesn't seem an end to the story. I guess I just want to get on with it and finish it to a point where I can say that's it and then leave it and start something else that is perhaps not so engrossing. I have AC Black Flag ready and waiting and also Batman Arkham Origins, (never even touched upon). I have pre-ordered AC Unity and Rogue and Arkham Knight. I intend purchasing a PS4 around Christmas time. I've not even thought about Destiny (which sounds awesome - I can't believe I'm using the language of a teenager at 58 years old!), which was released yesterday - there are only so many hours in the day and I need my vitamin D! I want to be in a position before Christmas to be able to put Oblivion on the back burner. Someday I will return to it - it is one hell of a game! You have helped me no end. Without your support I would probably have abandoned the game months ago. You have helped my game run smoothly and you have taught me stuff I never thought I would learn. I have printed out all of your instructions and comments and I have filed them in my Prima Oblivion Game Guide book which is now full to burgeoning! I will never uninstall this game from my computer although I will clear it from my PS3. I have recommended anyone who starts this game on PS3 to abandon it and restart on PC. Never uninstalling it suggests that I will definitely return to it at some point - one rainy day in the winter when there's nowt on TV and I'm bored out of my brains! I dislike going over old ground. I wasn't relishing restarting the game on PC after spending an inordinate amount of time on PS3. What I would like is to download the extra DLC that was available, i.e. Mehrunes Razor, Sundercliffe Watch, The Orrery, The Wizard's Tower and whatever else is going. I am probably more interested in the stuff that is covered in the game guide under the DLC section. This would keep me going for a while longer. Where would I get this stuff from now? I am led to understand that it can no longer be downloaded from official sources. Has someone else taken on the mantle? In the meantime I will keep plodding on - I've been to all of the locations in the World Maps, ticked 'em off and got the T shirt but I've still got another 58 Oblivion gates to shut along with the completion of the Daedric Quests, (I am currently hanging on to Umbra which is preventing this), and the Vampire stuff which I have left till last. I feel like I am playing catch up with the series but doing it all the wrong way around. I have Sky Rim (The Legendary Edition) on both PS3 and PC and also the Elder Scrolls Anthology - all still in the cellophane wrappers! I will probably, at some point, purchase Elder Scrolls On-Line which sounds interesting. But I am itching to try something completely new and some of the new games are so much better graphically. If you know how/where I can access the DLC I spoke of please let me know. Thanks again for your fantastic help.
  4. Thanks for that Striker879, I've followed all of that now with quite a bit more confidence! What do I do with the old files now - do I discard them or just leave them? Does my game automatically load up with the OAF files now as my latest saves?
  5. Hi Striker879, OK I've downloaded and saved 7-zip to C:Users/Public/7-Zip on my hard drive. I have installed it, (at least I think I have!) What do I do next? I am still totally unclear about what you were saying about the ESS and OBSE files and what I have to do with the new ESS file that is prefixed with OAF. Also do I have to fix both the ESS and the OBSE file? What exactly is the OBSE file and what is its purpose? I have 2 files, (my latest saves) which are: Save 374 - Frodo Baginses - Rosethorn Hall Top Floor - Level 51, Playing Time 305.21.33.ess and Save 374 - Frodo Baginses - Rosethorn Hall Top Floor - Level 51, Playing Time 305.21.33.obse Sorry about this but at this very moment I feel like I'm in the middle of Good Mornin' Vietnam! Do you remember that sketch about the VP being such a big VIP etc.? Just watched it again - I was going to stick the link in here but I don't know how to.
  6. Hi, I am really sorry about this and I know its a pain but can you go through this a bit slower? I am struggling! I have downloaded 7-Zip - it's somewhere on my computer - god knows where! I've got my latest save files which are Save 374 (blah blah) which is an ESS file and Save 374 (blah blah) which is an OBSE file. I've taken a copy of both just in case I mess up, (for want of a stronger term!). Can you step me through it please? I don't think I will ever get the hang of this!
  7. Hi Striker879, I've started having a go at installing the animation fixer today and I've run into trouble almost straightaway! I think I need my hand holding again! I downloaded the OAF from Nexusmods. Obviously I got the zipped version. I saved it to a flash drive out of the way of my system. It says to extract to my savefile which I attempted to do but when I started I got a message stating that I needed to buy the version of WinRAR to do it because the intro version had expired after 40 days. I decided I didn't really want to buy anything so I uninstalled my version of WinRAR via the Control Panel/Programs & Features, with the intention of reinstalling the free version - maybe get another 40 days out of it! I did the sensible thing and set up a restore point this time - once bitten twice shy as they say! I downloaded/installed WinRAR and low and behold along came a load of other crap with it that I especially wanted to avoid - such as requests to change browsers, PC Health Kit, Backup etc. etc. - I didn't seem to get any opt outs either! So I abandoned that and restored to the point before I started. Why is that whenever you attempt to download something you end up taking all of this extra baggage too - I find it utterly invasive! So can you help me here please? Can't I use anything else to unzip these files? What do I do subsequent to this - I am so confused.
  8. I have completed the Thieves Guild section and kept hold of my Spring Heel Jak Boots! I must admit I wasn't at all sure so I figured on building my Acrobatic Skill up to 100, (eventually by jumping off chapel towers mostly), and enhancing using enchanted armour and a fortify health spell for good measure. It worked out that the fall hardly touched me when I fell down through the fireplace! Onward and upward as they say - I'll be glad when this game finally comes to an end. I've worked it out I've been on this damned game for over a year now! I've just pre-ordered AC Unity, AC Rogue and Batman Arkham Knight from Tesco using my boosted clubcard points - not bad for £13! I really want to get on with something a bit more modern now. Only the rest of the main quest, Shivering Isles, the remainder of the Daedric section and the Vampire stuff to do now. Just waiting for a rainy day. Its far to nice outside to be stuck in front of a screen. I still can't find any more skill books. I have now meticulously crossed off every single location on the World Maps having been in each at least once and I can't find any of the books that quoted in the Wiki which are supposed to be randomly placed in loot. If anyone can suggest anything I would be most appreciative.
  9. I think maybe I need to go back a bit! I don't think I have Oblivion Animation Fixer - at least it's not on my desktop so will that be a program I might have downloaded when we working together last time? If you remember I was struggling with selling things one at a time so that I could build up my mercantile skill. I remember vaguely using OBSE for this to download the necessary files which I saved to a stick and then, if I recall, (although mistily), I had to replace certain files and introduce others. But I am not clear about it. Trouble is, I'm not doing it on a regular basis so it is easy to forget. Plus I have had a new replacement hip in the meantime which has diverted my attention somewhat!
  10. Hi Striker879, Going to the first bit of what you said, regarding on going maintenance of the ever developing A-Bomb phenomena, can you please remind me of exactly what I have to do? You know me from my previous posts - I need my hand holding quite a lot!
  11. Hi Striker879, Its been a long time since I've been to this forum. I guess its because of all the sound advice that you and the other guys gave me initially when I moved over from PS3 to PC. I have now been playing the game on PC since April and have got over 600 game days (according to my stats) under my belt. Very few problems have occurred in the ensuing period apart from having to revive a couple of key characters. I have had only a couple of save crashes resulting in corrupt files where I have had to go back a save. I did lose several hours of play time that could not be repeated fully, so I have sort of learned my lesson to commit to regular saving! One instance was where I actually found one of the remaining skill books in loot and lost it again through the crash. When I revisited the chest where it was found first time around, it wasn't there and what's more, I haven't seen a single skill book in loot ever since! I have forgotten most of what was said regarding the supposed A-Bomb glitch and I feel it may be time to revisit it. Having completed over 600 game hours, I am now experiencing the same symptoms, although not so intense, as I did on PS3. Lighting effects after spell casting and chapel altar visits are hanging in the air for longer than they did at the beginning of playing the game. Big old wooden doors are slow to open and everything seems a little frenetic and jumpy. I have completed many of the quests involving the guilds apart from the last part of the Thieves Guild (The Ultimate Heist), purely because I wanted to hang on to those Springheel Jak Boots! I only have two quests left in the Daedric section, Peryite and the final one. I have been using Peryite to up my blade, blunt and hand to hand skills! I still have the vampire quests to do but I have completed the Knights of The Nine and the main storyline quest up to Miscarcand. I have still to have a go at the Shivering Isles and haven't even thought about the plug-ins and extra DLC, which is another thing! Can you help me out in your easy to explain way like you did before? I would like to complete this game as far as possible (to satisfy my OCD tendencies more than anything), but I don't want all of these glitches to spoil the pleasure. What exactly do I have to do at this stage? Hope you can help.
  12. It seems that the two sites are back up and running. No explanations are given, but sweat over. Its a pity they can't forewarn or give some sort of reason, but there you go!
  13. Hi, UESP Wiki and the associated forum seems to be having access problems - at least I am any way! I was hoping to see if anyone else was experiencing difficulties and more to the point, if they know when the problem will be solved. I can get onto the UESP Wiki for information but I have to follow the subject links down the left side - the search facility seems to be out of action. All I get when I type something in the box is that there's a server problem or something. It doesn't indicate whether the problem is at my end or theirs. I am coming to conclusion that the problem is theirs as I have contacted someone on another forum (Neoseeker) and they are also experiencing problems. The forum side of things is completely out of action. I find UESP Wiki invaluable, as I believe most of us do. I wouldn't have heard of this forum/website were it not for UESP Wiki. Does anyone have any information on what might be wrong and how long it will take to fix?
  14. Hi Striker879, Things are now going along swimmingly! I even managed to use the console to resurrect Alawen so I could get a bit more training in Marksmanship. The first tima around in the PS3 version she apparently got killed and as we know with the PS3 version there's no coming back from the dead! She managed to get herself killed in the PC version but it is so easy to bring 'em back! I've got another one here - perhaps you would like to comment and confirm how I should install it. It's a mod that allows you to pick up books off shelves where there are hundreds of them. I was clearing out the Blackwood Company's library to sell the books on but my hand started to ache after about 20! I knew there were no skill books there having done it the first time around so I started looking for a mod solution. A guy on Wiki UESP suggested this one: http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/27563/? What do you think?
  15. I lost Alawen to death in the PS3 version. I am now well into the PC version which is much better I have to say! This time I made a point of getting to Alawen before the Grim Reaper and managed to get 2 training lessons for my money, leaving me 3 outstanding. I went back to Troll Candle Camp as soon as I levelled up and guess what - she's gone AWOL! Not a sign of her. I've waited from 10pm till 4am, (the allotted time suggested in the Prima Guide), and waited around all day, but it seems she is no more, (again!). Is there anyway of getting her back? I'm on 73 on Marksmanship.
