Wouldnt it be great if the community communicated?
Roun replied to Roun's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Look around the forums in general. Count the number of threads that have less than ten replies against the ones that have more. The vast majority of threads on this site, and frankly any other go completely unanswered. And the few times I have been in the Chat-box (between unexplained bans) the only thing people wanted to do was banter about nothingness, not even forum related issues, just a bunch of hens clucking... I have tried a lot of times to make my issues a group effort offering rewards to the community as a whole, and the most I have ever gotten was 3-6 posts, not even aiming at my posts, but usually retorting someone elses reply. Its become so frustrating not knowing anything about the nebula that are mods. Its usually something so simple, 'can i get this one effect and not the other' 'which if these patchs is better?' hell, I cant even get mod makers to read their mail nine out of ten times... Its to the point that i have to just come on here and vent because I have spent the better part of a year just trying to develop a game that I can be happy with and having something interesting to do during my relaxing hours. The irony is that I have spent so many day hours getting nowhere that I might as well just get stoned and be done with it... Its crap like this that drives me to only think about myself... -
I have to say that I am really disappointed with people... At first I thought that no one would reply because my requests were too specific or unpopular. Then after several different attempts at trying to be more appealing to people I finally realized what the problem was. The average person on here (and most other forums) are completely smug and self-centered... I can say with resounding surety that the only time I can get back to back posts from anyone is when the mocker and criticizers come out... So whats your excuse?

I see three patches out there for all three but I have no way of knowing which gives the most smooth finish.

Modding Skyrim to be immersive and atmospheric(Complete beginner)
Roun replied to TheEvilAlex's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Ok... Now I think I understand why people dont like answering my posts but still, its prickish that you go to all the trouble to pose this question and have no one answer... ever... I have a similar project in mind, maybe we can work together to make things better. First of all, I have had experience with Requiem, and it has a lot of good elements but I want to stay away from it simply because its so broad reaching. It tends to want to change everything about the game which I want to do myself in a more controlled fashion. To prefus this I am a Ranger, always have been, always will be, simply in my nature. My top picks Frostfall (Wilderness survival) Refuse to ever play without it. Hunterborn For a much more rewarding hunting and gathering experience. RN&D (Hunger,Thrist,Sleep) An absolute necessity (Pun not intended) if you want to play for realism. These three have compatibility patches floating around which make all three work together very well. (meat from hunterborn works for cooking in RN&D and so on) You have a better hardware setup than I do so you are likely to get a better performance than I ever could, but what I have found is that in order to get the best experience, especially in the wilderness, you need to monkey with your graphics. Go into the advanced tab when the launcher sets the graphics settings. Set the view distance to max on all the sliders, and set the texture quality to low. This way you will be able to see everything before you trip over it. As a Ranger this is an absolute must because I never want to enter a fight within arms reach. It also creates a much better visual experience for immersion and in general enhances the atmosphere. The problem is that its going to demand performance so you have to choose between looks and function. Off the top of my head thats what I have for the moment. Ill add a link to another thread that I am trying to get help through. Sadly people on this site (And most others) are pretty prickish, its really irritating that I can make a thread and come back a week later and not find a single reply. Whats with that? ----------------------------------- This is my present thread (Which no one will visit...) Take a look around. This is my current load order, be warned though, this is far from ready. Active Mod Files: -
What about throwing axes? As a Ranger I have explored the tactics and nature of other traditions for Ranger type classes. There are Rangers that will wield a longsword, short sword, duel short swords, flechettes, and a lot of other tactics along side their bow including the bow as a melee weapon. But what I really find interesting is the Apache tradition if Tomahawks. I love the idea of small axes that can be wielded like axes as well as thrown and retrieved. Rather than simply adding a mod to add throwing axes though, I am wondering if there is a mod that will allow the player to throw common war axes... Thanks

Dido on that. I think rather a block should consume stamina and if there is not enough stamina the block fails. So yeah, plus-one on finding this kind of mod.

Something I thought was interesting. I remember on one play through I kept seeing 'packrolls' I dont remember exactly what their name was. Basically it was a backpack type item that would sling over the shoulder like a quiver and fortified carry weight. I see a lot of normal on-the-back packs, but I thought it looked pretty cool. Especially considering I like using capes and cloaks. When I wear a cloak I see the pack on my back but the straps dont exist. I actually wear a cloak when its cold and a normal pack tends to bunch it up on your ribs. Having this 'rollpack' fits together better with the cloaks. So rambling aside, does anyone know where I can find that mod? I would really like to add them to the craft list and to common loot. Thanks. Edit: Oh, and im also trying to find a mod akin to Requiems combat system. I remember from using requiem that damage was psychotically high and just about every blow was critical. I found another mod that does something similar but it doesnt have the same armor effect. In Requiem heavy armor made the player a tank. Which is realistic because plate armor offers a great deal more protection. Pretty much, I want a mod with really high damage and the armor effects from Requiem. Thanks.

Hey everybody! There are actually two things that I am looking for. One is a mod that makes all the leveled lists flat. Basically, every enemy in the game should always be as strong at level one as they are at level twenty. For example, bandits can really only be so strong, so they are usually on the weak side unless its like a higher ranking bandit. While professional soldiers or mercs should be considerably stronger. The other that I am looking for is a mod to make the stat system apply to all characters. For example, if I add a mod that makes the player run slower when wearing heavy armor or the current carry weight effects stamina, all of these effects should be universal not just for the player. So it would be nice to find a mod that could do that. Thanks in advance.

yeah i grew up raising and training with horses, the game is quite a ways off from a real one Wait, this the same qwert who made a dwemer tower in morrowind?
-
not really, i never used them or companions even back when i was living in the dark ages of unmodded console Skyrim. they actually felt slower in my opinion, you couldnt sneak with them (duh) and trying to use magic and bows are a pain along with horse back fighting being impossible. i dont bother with them, instead i use the portal mod for my long distance journeys. which by the way make a great replacement for fast travel. here's the link if you want to check it out: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/29447/? i guess some of the mods greatly improve them and make it worth it, but i find that they are a waste of money and with my mod (currently in development) that switches out mana for gold... i kinda cant waste any of it at the moment. Well fast travel is not an issue for me, if anything I have found it to be a much greater experience to simple travel everywhere on foot. You see more of the world, you have surprise adventures, survival situations are more enjoyable, so on. Travel really isnt the issue, its more about the general usefulness of having a mount. When looking at Rohirrim from Lord of the Rings or Dothraki from Game of Thrones the prospect of being a horsemen is really profound and exciting. A horse offers you a great deal, mobile storage, beast of burden (which the two are actually different things if you think about it) Even an emergency food supply if the chips are seriously down... A horse offers you speed and mobility in combat, especially on an open field. If nothing else horses are just noble animals and are enjoyable to have around... The problem is that the game is fundamentally flawed...
-
In my experience, I find horses to actually be more of a liability than a help. Sure they can run faster for longer, and help you carry stuff with the right mods. But in the end I find that I spend more time worrying about whither or not my horse is going to face off with a troll and die in one hit or get bit to death by wolves before I can even dismount... I find horseback warfare to be almost impossible to use, the aim restraint is terrible along with having to be mindful of where you want the horse to run is worse than being immobile on foot. A horse costs too much (For my realism character at least) and are far too difficult to replace (especially when it was carrying lots of loot) so I have always elected to hoofing it wherever I go. Can anyone give me a reason to use a mount?

Just so I understand what your saying. By optimizing the textures it makes them smaller which would allow me to have a higher texture setting in graphics without soaking up ram?

I agree, in that respect I like Skyrealism with its Capacity and Encumbrance modules. They operate together under the principle that you can only realistically carry so much weight, and you can only carry so much on your person without the baggage to store it all. It gives you a base CW of 50 which is MCM adjustable, I want to set it to 20 or 30 because clothing only has so many pockets. Then Encumbrance has a system with a base encumbrance of 100 MCM adjustable. With this you actually have a speed boost of 10% until you get to that amount then it penalizes you for carrying more weight. Look into those systems, it makes the experience much more realistic for looting at forces the player to really think and choose what they want to take rather than just loading everything they find. As for your mod im kind of leery of broad sweeping mods, I have found that using overhauls tends to give unexpected and unpredictable changes. For animals dropping gold and gems, ducks are actually known to eat gold nuggets and hunters have found gold in their stomachs because they look a lot like fish. So it would stand to reason that birds like ducks and some fish would have gold or gems in their belly because they see the glimmer and think its something to eat. This looks like a simple gold weight mod with nothing else attached that I want to run with. One thing though that I need to request from someone is weighted arrows of 0.1lb that actually appears on the item. If the item itself registers as having weight then the Capacity/Encumbrance will treat it as an equipped item and subtract the weight from capacity. From the various mods ive seen I havent seen one that actually dubs the weight to the item itself. And just to be clear, im not putting your mod down, it looks neat on the whole, I am just personally leery of broad reaching mods. For example, you are adding animals, later on I intend to look into animals and get the right build for wildlife. What ever I find for that will likely clash with yours and cause trouble. So if anything I endorse your mod, just not for me specifically.

Hey dudes. I find Vanilla Skyrim appalling... It feels like the lazy kids self esteem hotline... Everything is designed to make the player the center of attention and babies the player so they can essentially finish any part of the game at a low level. I find that not only excessively boring, but an insult to my intelligence... So, I am gathering pre-existing mods to make the bulk of what I am aiming for, and I would hope that someone can help me fill in the gaps. At this moment. Frostfall: Hunterborn: Either Realistic Needs & Diseases or Imps More Complex Needs (havent made up my mind yet) Skyrealism: is an overhaul project that comes in modular forms to let you pick and choose aspects. At the moment im liking the Capacity and Encumberance aspects. Crafting looks good to but im not sure what is the best crafting system to go with. Dead Body Collisions: Professions: Combat Realism: For this I am having some trouble, a huge aspect of Skyrim that is seriously broken in my mind is the combat system. Combat realism works to make all weapons and armor truly realistic where one good hit will kill you or bring you very close to death. Example Combat Evolved: Along with weapon and armor realism AI and behavior are going to be essential. I see this one and like it at face value, but I dont really know what else there is out there. This is one of those 'blind spot' areas that I just dont have the mental where-with-all to investigate without getting light headed and start stressing out about it. For this I guess I just need help from people who have had experience with different mods to help show the way. Faster Arrows: Perks: I have absolutely no idea how to go about altering the perks, I have seen several mods offer overhauls to the perk system and when I look at various mods like the combat overhauls, I really dont know what the perks are going to do when everything is changed. I mean say I like Combat Realism which I think it made perk changes but not really sure. But at the same time I like a mod specifically designed to change perks, can I get both of those to work together? Its stuff like this that give me dizzy spells because I just dont know how to comprehend that kind of stuff. I guess im out of time for the night. Ill be back to fill in more of what ive found later. Basically this isnt me just asking for something, im offering something at the same time. I want to make the ideal game for realism in all aspects. If people dont like my purist ways that fine, dont do everything i say just listen to what I have to say xD. My last thought for the night. Health Stamina Magicka, I saw in Requiem that Health did not regenerate on its own and stamina was more critical in combat. I would really appreciate someone helping me find a mod that makes them realistic, and if they dont exist then I would really appreciate someone making one. I like the notion of Food being not only necessary for life, but then also offering buffs as well, like RN&D had foods that increased health or restored stamina, my favorite was a stew that boosted health and carry weight. The twist was that you could only get those effects outside of combat, which made it more interesting. I guess thats all for tonight, i hope people take an interest in this.

Hey dudes... I see three mods here that look good. Imps More Complex Needs: Skyrealism Feast or Famine: Realistic Needs and Diseases: Ok, so, now that I have your attention the real reason why I made this thread is because I am having trouble choosing the right mod that works for me. Since were at it we can also help other people see what they want so it can be a win win for everybody. From my own experience, I have used Realistic Needs and Diseases in the past. I found it to be very interesting to say the least. It adds eating drinking and sleeping with adjustable states (How fast you get hungry thirsty or sleepy) I also enjoyed the vast amount of recipes that were added and a great many of them had buffs so choosing what kind of food you wanted to eat was rewarding. A problem I had with it though was that alcohol decreased thirst. Alcohol dehydrates the body, which means that drinking mead all day long will leave you so thirsty you would likely die sooner than the (three days of death) that is realistic with hydration. I havent tested these other mods so if someone who has used them alot can share their experiences I would really appreciate it. From a first glance I think Imps More Complex needs might be what im going for as I want to build a complete realism build that effects everything from everyday activity to combat, to the skills and perks. I find getting the right needs mod for the play style is absolutely necessary.

Honestly, I dont even understand what your trying to say... Well heres the thing, I have gone for different packages and no matter what It seemed that all the rounded edges and fine details like hands and back curves always come out with pixelation... It was only when I ramped the graphics up to ultra that I saw a crisp image on any body... The thing is that I cant even function on the recommended graphics settings because I use maximum view distance. On the console version I have been mortified to stumble upon dragons and only be able to see them once they are right within arms reach... By maxing out the view distance I am able to see all threats and targets at a realistic range before I engage, which is life or death for an archer... So I have to have the bulk of the settings at minimum to get the smooth function I need, I would just like to be able to see a person walk up to me or a body laying on the road and not immediately get that sense of tackiness... So I dont know, I could try max like 4k textures but I dont know if that is going to mean anything after it gets downgraded...
-
Hey, I have been tinkering with my graphics settings and have found that I cant get very far without jitters when I have high graphics settings. Is there a way to make some textures high while other are not? I was thinking along the lines of making body replacers and armor and weapons and basic stuff a higher res while leaving the environment at a low setting, is there a way to make this happen?

Im trying to find a mod that will make alchemy more realistic in that chemistry is not nearly as orderly as vanilla skyrim is trying to make it out to be. All these ingredients have a fixed four effects and you can only combine three ingredients... How does that make sense? The effects and number of effects are governed according to the properties of the ingredient. And it seems irrational to limit the number of ingredients. I mean hell, why not make a potion with a single ingredient by extracting the portion that causes that effect and concentrating it? This system is far from realistic...

okay to clear some stuff up, first people who say "do your research" arent gonna come on here and just straight up say that. generally on the Nexus people who are told that appear lazy and seem to expect us to do all the work for them. you sound like you just need a guide to help you out. (that's respectable in my opinion by the way) next the phrases "make it yourself/do it yourself" is usually coined by people who are just wasting the OPs time and are generally new to the forums, or it's being directed towards people asking for ludicrously easy things to make (such as altering weapon damage). many times it is told to people who went out of their way to indirectly/directly insult all the existing mods similar to what they want and describing why they are terrible. many modders on these forums dont tolerate that kinda behavior. also some people ask for really big projects... there arent as many active modders as people think so people actually trying to making mods themselves get peoples quite happy. in this case though neither of those replies make any sense. you're just asking for realism mods and people are more than willing to give you a hand. Ok, well at this point I have had a little progress. I found Skyrealism which as a few aspects of what I am looking for. I the real problem im working with i that some mods do what I need but not all of it, I might need help mixing and matching. With Skyrealism there is a brillaint concept for weight and encumbrance. The thought is that you dont have a magic backpack to carry everything in, that you carry everything according to capacity. The logic here is that any given clothing or armor is going to have pockets or pouches of some kind so you get a base capacity of 50, which I lowered to 20 for my own realism expectations. The way you get more capacity is by adding holders such as Bandoliers bags and pouches which I am presently looking at a mod on how to reduce the carry weight boost of each item because its a little high for containers of their size. And the most interesting thing about this is that encumbrance doesnt just happen that one half lb to far, it happens slowly. The base for encumbrance is 100lb and the more weight you carry the more your movement speed suffers until something like 345 I think when you are paralyzed from all the stuff you are trying to carry, which the first time I saw it I thought was hilarious. The perk trees and crafting I found really interesting and want to pursue those. It has a needs mod which seems similar to RN&D but neither of these are doing what I need them to do. From what I have heard RN&D causes a lot of conflicts and so I am having to regretfully rethink using it. It had good recipes that I remember from the last time I used it (Save the constant need for salt on everything...) Skyrealism looks to be a functional equivalent but the food items dont have effects like the kind found in RN&D which I see as a step down. Also I have yet to find a single mod that makes alcohol realistic... Alcohol does not hydrate, it dehydrates... So making an alcohol that decreases thirst is not going to work in realism... So i mean unless there is a needs mod out there that can do what I need or if somehow RN&D will work with the build im working on then that might not even be an issue... Combat is a huge factor, I used Requiem for a good while and found its brutal combat system fantastic. Unless you were using heavy armor one good hit from anything was just about a fatal blow. A bow shot from close up, or a hammer to the shoulder, these were brutally unforgiving, which you would expect in a medieval dog fight. I liked a number of aspects about Requiem but found it to be overly invasive and often hurting other mods I was using at the time. I found one mod that was supposed to massively increase the damage for all weapons but it didnt seem to take effect. I guess if nothing else a functional equivalent to what Requiem did with combat is what I really need. Also, the stamina system that Requiem offered was really good, but I wouldnt know how to get all that stuff without having to take everything in Requiem... Yet another thing that Requiem did really well was non leveled NPCs and creatures. Everything remained the same no matter what level the player was, so bandits were bandits, soldiers were soldiers, and so on. I guess in essence what I am really looking for is that brutally realistic experience that effects both the player and NPCs and punishes EVERYONE for slipping up. Something I found in Requiem was that NPCs did not have the same stamina and perk penalties as the player, which made a lot of situations horrid to deal with. Frostfall adds Wilderness survival as a realism factor. Hunterborn suites my Ranger play style extremely well for being able to sustain yourself in the wild. Im looking at a number of animal mods for making the wilds behave more realistically. Skytest , Real Wildlife , Monster Mod , Skyrim creatures alive , Skytest Integration Project , these all look like they do something that are needed to make animals look and act realistically. Unfortunately however I keep seeing elk and deer just standing around being attacked and WAY to many of them... The wilds are so full of deer that I see small herds wandering right into Whiterun casually like they arent being hunted as a vital source of food... Something in the mix of this is going terribly wrong and I wont have the where-with-all to figure out what... Then theres radiance, which I found a few mods like Immersive Patrols, but I really dont know whats out there and this part leaves me even more confused than the wildlife... Im starting to get light headed trying to think about everything so I guess ill stop here lol

It would really be great if I could get help from someone... Anyone... I have a lot of questions and ask many, but rarely if ever get answered... I am wholey dissatisfied with Vanilla Skyrim and would like to make it into something entirely different. I have seen a number of 'Overhaul' mods and have tried a few but at this point nothing really does what I need it to do. The first thing on my list I think is realism. To sum it up in two questions would be "If Skyrim was the real world, what is it supposed to look like?" and "How much of that can you get without breaking the game or your hardware?" I see some good stuff in Requiem http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/19281/? like realistic carry weight, gold weight, arrow weight, brutal realistic damage in combat (ie without heavy armor arrows are usually one hit kill or next-to-fatal at mid range) tweaks to alchemy, and a whole slew of other factors that it covered that I cant quite remember off hand. There were a lot of good things about Requiem but it didnt do enough and more often than not created conflicts with other mods. And just as a bottom line, I am not mentally equipped for handling this stuff... People keep telling me 'do some research' or 'do it yourself' or my favorite 'create your own mod' if I cant even get through the hurdles of investigating materials for which I have no frame of reference as to how to investigate, how the hell am I supposed to make one of something I dont even understand? Im not asking for everything at once, so trying to avoid my own deep seeded pessimism toward people, can someone help me along with this? I mean it could be as simple as asking other people what kind of mods do they like in regards to XYZ and maybe a little description as to what it is and how it works so I can have some kind of grasp on how to not make things incompatible... I mean really, I have asked a dozen questions in late months and have had almost no answers for any of them... How other people get answers is beyond me.
-
I am sorry to here that. You know folks at official forum are nice, atleast to me. Ok, so is this a one time deal or am I going to have to do this forever? Also, when people dick around its always people giving answers to questions taht arent answers, for example, if I go to yahoo answers and ask how to modify something they either recommend that I dont something I dont want to do because somehow they always know best, or I get harassed for being so stupid for wanted to do what I want to do... The last time I posted about this present issue people kept telling me 'just dont steal stuff' or 'dont do that quest' or 'dont sell to that merchant' or something stupid that is not an answer, not a solution to a problem... The always come off so condecending and arrogant its all you can do not to punch your screen... Then we you respond to them in kind a moderator shows up and attacks you for responding to assholes who provoked you in the first place... So thank you, I have a great appreciation for your trying to help... I mean it...

Hey everybody, I love modding and making everything freaken awesome... However there is a crap load of stuff out there that is just cobbled together without any thought about its impact on the game... If we could compile a list of Lore compatible mods I think it would help a lot of people have a better experience in general... PS: Espeically with stuff like MCA where there is a lot of new stuff added in all over the place, but it has all this stupid crap like modern hair styles and clothing that just doesnt work in this world... Also stupid crap like town bandets having high level weapons and armor... MCA all together is a great project and really has lots to offer, it just needs to have a Lore centered version without all this other crap getting in the way...

Hey guys, im trying to deal with a bug that is completely destroying the playability of the game for me... Whenever an item is stolen from a merchant the item type is registered as stolen from that merchant... Basically, if I steal anything from a merchant at all and try to sell an item to that merchant of the exact same kind a year later the merchant will take it away from me saying 'hey, thats mine!' then I get a bounty... Right now im dealing with a thieves guild quest that requires that I steel booze from a tavern, how often do you think im going to go into that tavern and try to unload my booze and stuff in the near future? It is such a horrible problem that I have dropped the game altogether... And no, I dont want to hear that I should command prompt, or just not do it... I want to play the game as it is meant to be played, why else would I do anything at all? I mean hell, I might as well move to the third world and act it out in real life if you want me to moderate my behavior... If no one knows of a fix for this off the top of their heads, can someone help me out by looking into a simple mod that might fix this? like removing ownership of all items in stores and what not? I have to say, I am really irritated with the way I have been treated on this site in the past... People on here really dont seem to care about really making things better or helping other people out...

I have had enough, I am thuroughly sick and tired of this crap, if the game cant function with a handful of mods then the game is broken... I cant be the only person with this issue, something needs to be done, im so sick of the handful of mods that I have not working because the base code is inherently broken... I have tried and tried to find the fix on google, and no matter how much I search, I keep getting sent to the same three pages that dont do anything but tell you how to make everything worse... Someone, anyone, please, how do we fix this?
