As stated the video card is way more than new enough to run the game. And it only ever happens in that one area. I'm using retail. And I normally run it without sounds since I'm listening to music and thus there's no reason to have it going. None of the things above will _really_ help since it's a single spot in there, and it keeps doing it. My GPU as stated in the information there, is way more than strong enough to play the game. And I've even/already moved it to it's own area in C:\Oblivion, running it with xp sp3 compatability, no desktop pretties. So there's nothing I can think of to make it so that it won't work.

OK first up here's the exact error. I ahve the 4GB aware patch, and oblivion also is using ~800MB of my 2GB of video ram. The exact amount of actual ram is 1,740,048KB. It always crashes right there. And i cannot figure out which one is causing it or why the hell it's doing that. Next up is my load order from BOSS As you can see I have all of the known compatability patches for everything there. My graphical settings are "high"/large for everything, and my resolultion is native 1920x1080. Semi-important things from dxidiag to show that I _should_ be able to do all of this without any issues. I'm using OSR to make sure that the FPS is always nice and smooth. It never goes lower than 25FPS with those current settings. I have to use vsync since OSR has no control over everything else and those parts of the game were rendering in the thousands of frames a second. The exact location is as you go down the hill from the staples, it's right there. The game just crashes. I have no idea why. It just crashes.

I've already tried completely uninstalling oblivion, and then reinstalling it. And the NPCs in question still don't have their hair/eyes. After reinstalling it all, going back and doing everything again, a few of the NPCs gained their hair, but still random NPCs from the default oblivion still don't have eyes/hair randomly. Load order: It's all been sorted with BOSS, and I'm using ArchiveInvalidated! from tesnexus, to make sure that everything will work properly. I cannot explain why the characters don't have hair since I've not ran PyFFI's Nifskope on any of the meshes in the character folder, and even after reinstallation they still didn't have the proper meshes. Installing Ren's seems to have done a bit to help it. But now it's back to how it is. It's random NPCs and I cannot figure out which it is, since I don't know an easy way to track down what meshes are missing from them. The most recent one that I saw was Jensine, she has black balls for eyes, and no hair. It's bothering me way more than it should and I cannot explain why this is happening as it is.

Which is a better setup for oblivion to use, I will also be using the Oblivion Stutter Remover. I've already optimized all of the meshes inside of the game and all of those from all of the mods that I have so that shouldn't be mentioned in relation to this query on performance. Is it better to assign oblivion to the last two cores only on my quad core CPU, or is it best to do the last three, since I know that stutter remover is multithreaded(or so it claims to be). P.S. I tried to search for this but someone who designed the search function on this forum decided that two letter words are a big no no, so thus I could not search for any topic relating to this and had to result to posting a thread about it. That requirement of "more than 3 characters per word" feels a bit off, if you're going to have such a thing just strike the three or less character words from the query string.

Way to cap FPS in menus sans Vsync?
133794m3r replied to 133794m3r's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
i'm already using htat and it DOES NOT affect menus for some extremely odd reason. And i wish that it did since pointless rendering menus at extremely high FPS makes absolutely no sense. -
For some reason the oblivion engine loves to render nothing in menus ala sc2 and thus my GPU is working 120% and goes upwards of 100*C wheni'm in them and also talking to peope too. What i want to do is just put a hard cap at 60FPS for everything, i've already got streamline which isets the game world stuff at 30FPS but i also want to do the same thing with the menus and such and since when i was in the game world, my FPS sans all nautral things(i believe that the oblivion engine itself couldn't handle all of thep rettiness) it now runs at ~80% gpu load average once i've put on Vsync, but the in game things drop to like 5-10FPS and that's because streamline's limiting it to 30FPS max which means it's actually only getting 1/2 of thenormal performance max since vsync loves to do that. Now this wouldn't be a huge deal except in the parts where it is. Anyway, is there any way to cap the FPS of the game without using vsync. Mainly my problem is with Menus, and also the menu whenyou're talking to an NPC before i had vsync on they were at something like 100+FPS with menus going into the several hundreds. What i'd like to do is to have everything set at like 30FPS but without having to use vsync and also tripple buffer. Is there some ini setting or OBSE plugin to do that?

I recently just died outside of anvil by some random female archer something or another. Then when i came back, my character's camera is at its waist. The level when in the middle of the screen with the cross-hairs. It used to be around where my head was which makes sense. Now everything's at tis waist and i don't have any spare saves to load except ones that are many hours back. Is there any easy way to increase the height of the cross-hairs/camera when in first person or am i goign to have to go back awhile.

as i said before. The FPS drops at the same time that the I/O Queue and the Reference Queue increases, and the BSTask Count increases. It has happened when just walking around the imperial city market district which doesn't make sense since i thought that the meshes/textures would've been rendered already and that the cells should be loaded seamlessly. -

I was speaking about the other files. I've already extracted the oblivion meshes bsa and rearchived with no compression. And i think i've done it with the textures. I was thinking about doing it with all of the other files. and if you've ever used tdt before with OBSE(maybe?) it shows itself as one of the bits of data. It's FPS <value> I/O Queue <value> <cannot remember what it is> BSTaskCount <value> For some reason when just walking around, it seems like it drops and the I/O Queue goes up rapidly and then it balances itself out. The reason why i don't get this is simply because i'm using as it says and thus it shouldn't have to be reading so much data when just walking around within an area. The load screens themselves take ~3-5 seconds when they happen but those random dips are seemingly random. I'll attach a screenshot when i get back into oblivion to show you. I don't know why oblivion is thrashing the disk so much though and i cannot think of a single reason for it to do so. Edit: Added on this image to show it. Was recieved via tdt. Also the IO task, and queued reference task both go through the roof for seemingly no reason. http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/3648/screenshot3c.jpg -

Well, when the BSTaskCount isn't going up whatever the hell that is. Apparently thus far no one's been able to explain that one to me the FPS did go up by ~10 outdoors as teh minimum and indoors i have over 100FPS up from ~50FPS. Outdoors is low-drop of ~10-15 and averaging ~50FPS from 1-25FPS average. Now here's my biggest issue, what's this BSTaskCount thing that keeps going up, and also it seems it's having problems with I/O tasks, should i go through the bethesda BSAs and uncompress them as in extract then remake with 0% compression to reduce the I/O count on moving around? Since that seems to be the biggest issue that it's having right now. Also to the person above me, it'll make a huge amount of difference since it has for me. The biggest problem i have is I/O tasks when moving around it seems like the engine cannot load the data fast enough even though my HDD is capable when i have tested it of ~64MB/s average read speed, and writes were i'm not sure right now since i've yet to really use them besides using a usb 2.0 transfer cable and it was ~40MB/s so i'm going to guess that it's about the same. So with this i don't know why it's having so many queues and BSTaskCounts -

You clearly did not read much of the thread I linked you too since it clearly states there is an Optimizer INI that automates the process and does the work for you.** You don't have to manually do any of what you mentioned. I guess you assumed you had to do it manually and stopped reading. You simply place files to be optimized in the "in" folder, run PyFFI through the Optimizer INI, the files will then be output to the "out" folder. It does everything for you. Like I mentioned earlier you have to actually read over the information and understand what you're doing before you start. Don't just mindlessly approach it or skim over the information. If you're not willing to read the information provided to you then I suggest you just skip this and move on. You'll only be disappointed or screw something up. With that said I highly encourage you to use this process to optimize your meshes. I'm fairly confident you will be pleased with the results, if done correctly. **About halfway down the OP the steps are mentioned. I'll also link you to them @ TESIV:POSItive, Tomlongs's site. Tomlong's site gives a fairly detailed description in the first two paragraphs, talking about the automatic skipping of egm files and using the Optimizer INI. In the below spoiler tag I've included the contents of the Optimizer INI so you can clearly see it skips the necessary files. About the statement of "just a bit of optimization." It's far more than "just a bit." Good luck. Yes you can download the meshes mooncraver linked also. I just prefer to do my own. That way I know exactly what has been done and that it's been done correctly. Since I have no idea how the uploader ran those through PyFFI. Nor do I know what version of Python or PyFFI they're using. It says "click to optimize" if that's not automated i don't know what the hell is. I also MANUALLY went in and removed all files that had a .egm as their base file(or what i interpreted it as) which was basically anything that had a .egm with it's file as the same thing or a file that's almost exactly the same like one of the armors had somethingsomethingHelm.egm and then there was a helm.nif file within it. so i deleted both of the .egms and the nif that said helmet. I went through and found each and every one of them. Also you clearly didn't read the file itself. It's too late now, since i already did it manually since it supposedly talked about having to manually do things. And why would i keep on reading? It said for mod users run the optimizer on a folder with the meshes and avoid running it with any meshes that have egms as their base file. That's all it said. Why'd i sit down and read the entire thread when it said to watch out for those? Anyway, fast forward to 12hrs after i started it, it finally was done doing it's automated task.It better have fixed the cell loading issue since i've also deactivated my original natural flora mod, and then installed qtp3 redemized after uninstalling the original QTP3. I didn't extract any of the bsas from the oblivion file since i honestly doubt they'd be worth doing since it took it over 12hrs to do what it did and i don't feel like riht now sitting around for it since it's also only single threaded. -

Also about that utility, it says to delete all files that have a .egms as their main type. That seems like an extreme amount of work to do just to get a bit of opitmization since i thought that it would automatically see if a file has a .egms and also in the same directory has a .nif. Since i cannot see myself physically going through a few bajillion files manually i guess that tool is completley pointless for me to even attempt to use. -

I forgot about the natural weather ones. They're both disabled. This is one reason i wish there was an easy way to show my currently active mod list, in it's proper order. The only other way i know of doing this is to paste the entire BOSS log. Which i guess i'll do below. Also natural weather's ones aren't enabled ontop of what was said previously. The file is attached. I've also removed vsync a little while ago. The only other thing i see on there that i've not already done is set shader(s) to 3.0 Also the screen resolution i'm using is 1280x720 down from the weird monitor setting of 1366x768. I'll try removing realistic flora later on tomorrow to see if it's worthwhile for the FPS fix. -
First and foremost a little run down of my system. OS:Windows 7 x64 Professional CPU:2.29Ghz Dual Core GPU:GTX 260M 1GB GDDR3 510Mhz(Nvidia pushes up to 517) core, 816Mzh Memory(Nvidia pushes to 820ish i think), 1275Mhz shader(Nvidia pushes to 1300Mzh). (i've not tried going much higher yet since it seems nvidia doesn't like my odd numbers) RAM:4GB DDR2 800Mhz HDD:320GB 7200 rpm Now i was running GPU-Z to see why in the world that that the thing was doing this thinking it was some sort of weird paging issue. It has never used more than 400MB of ram when running at maximum. Also GPU load seems to be hovering ~80% from what i've seen thus far. Right now i just got out of the sewers. I have everything on high sans self shadows, grass(i never cared for grass in games) and also actor distance, tree distance, and item distance. Those are ~10-20% of the scrolling thing. I've used TES4LODGen the latest one from this site to make sure itself all renders properly. Also i've done what was suggested about making sure it uses the HDD cache and increased the ram usage setting to something like 500MB total since windows 7 uses ~1GB when idling it seems along with my AV/Firewall and other such things that are currently running. I always use black vipers service config for my system settings. Also i defrag once a week or so especially right now since i just got down reinstalling oblivion, and the mods that i use. Also the ordering of everything was left up to BOSS. They are as follows, i cannot find a way to export the list with teh load order intact so this is the best that i can do. Also all of the mods that are replaced by all natural are not enabled, and so isn't stirk due to another issue. Does anyone know why oblivion's having trouble with BSStack(i believe it's called) and I/O queue go up when the FPS drops, i guess i could change a few things to make it run better, but i'd like to keep all of the things that i can to keep it looking as pretty as it possibly can. Also not listed i don't believe is Qarls Texture Pack 3. The level change OOO isn't enabled but the respawn one is. Also my temperatures fit with the idea that nothing's really going wrong with it, unless it's something with the HDD not being able to read fast enough which doesn't make a great deal of sense to me.
