Cakester's Multiplayer Fallout 3 Project

The topic was made invisible. And was being investigated, but nothing has happened. I bet it is gone because most of the mods/admins don't have the time to review it. -

1/100th of a second is the greatest amount of time that it could take to update 1 player. If there was 1,000 players all in the same area: 1,000 * .01 = 10. So it would take 10 seconds before all 1,000 players have been updated on your screen. A bit slow... but what if I could get the speed to 1/1000th? .001 * 1,000 = 1. I don't know of any online game that wouldn't lag if there was 1,000 players all in one area anyway. Usually to keep lag as low as possible, only when a player is in your area, are they know by the game. The game has a minimum delay of .0001 for quests. 1000 * .0001? It is 0.1. Which is 1 tenth of a second. There are many things that could slow down the game so relying on the value inputted into quest delay isn't a good idea. But still , I feel what can be handled will mostly be determined by how well I code things. -

Hey sorry Xano, seems I lost the tab where I was replying to your post earlier. I can say that, atleast for the majority of development of multi-player, things will need to be in a mostly empty environment, which means it will all remain in a different worldspace than the wasteland. However, I will later evaluate the original game's content to see if it would be better to migrate to those areas rather than having to recreate everything. The reason is that I wouldn't feel comfortable saying I made Fallout 3 Multiplayer, if most/all of the game isn't even visitable while online. -

Me and Ecksile and maybe 1 other person will be doing a test together soon. I don't know about them, but I will be recording a video of it. In the video you should be able to fully comprehend what is going on. Also not too long ago i put up a video that show that armor works now. Weapons and armor at the moment are randomly given to you when you connect to the server. They are equipped automatically. You should be able to change your armor and weapons too. But the change won't show until you equip something. So if you unequip a 10mm pistol. It will still be equipped on other people's screens until you equip a new weapon. This is not how I want it to be, but for the sake of simplicity I haven't added scripting/code for fully supporting swapping out your items. In total there are 6 or 7 armors supported, and 13 weapons. Later on I will add more items, but I want to test things a step at a time. -

You think you could do a split-screen on the next one? That would be much more impressive. No idea how to do that. I don't think windows allow for more than one window to be in focus at a time. I am going to show another video once I get armor to work. -

I may click together a simple level. There is so much I could do. I think I will model something in Blender. Will be nice to take a break. -

It is very generous of you to offer this. At the moment I can not determine how much testing will be needed. -

Would multiplayer have to be complete, or just a simple demo that succeeds? -

Actually you will need windows live disabled to play the multiplayer mod. Just use the live dis-abler from nexus. FOSE is not used at all. -

Oops forgot about it. If you can get me hosting for free, then that would be great. I already have someone who is willing to host for me, but he isn't present during the day, only in the morning and night. If you can get me a place where I can just place the server application on and run it, that would be great. Of course it needs to have a fast connection and able to accept connections from outside. I have some great things in store for the first testers. Right now I am setting up the second to last script. Once I finish setting up the scripts then I have to begin adding some new code to the client and server. BUT! After I feel the client and server are ready again for testing, I .. well I have to test by myself. If I can see that the new stuff doesn't cause any problems and it is all functional, I will release another video. It might be 5 days until I have everything I want done. -

The person who is going to host the server for me will be tester #1 if he wants. There will be 8 people, but I am one of the 8. So really there is only 6 free slots I guess. And not just anyone will be allowed to test. If a person has never installed anything manually such as mods, then I will probably avoid picking them. Later on I may get an automatic installer so I can feel comfortable with any person wanting to join the game. -

Back when I did Afollut, I did test on a network, but fallout 3 is such a mammoth of a game, I doubt my parents are up for installing all of it just so they can test for me.
