  1. Its not your hardware. A duo with a 4000 series mobility card is more than enough to run F3 flawlessly. So that being said, Im not familiar with Steam as i refuse to use it, but they may possibly offer online file backups or in this case downloads for users in your situation. I imagine the problem lies within corrupt/incomplete files lost in the backup transfer. Do some research and see if you can download the files again via your Steam account. Thats the best advice can give. Hope this helps.
  2. XFO Perk Paths/Rebalance, iirc. Might wanna disable that or possibly check to see if "nimble" uses the same perk code as "finesse" (00094ec1). Try adding the perk with the console and see what happens. You could always try FWE instead of XFO if you wanted, as well, it does sort of the same thing only I believe it to be more stable. Just remember to use the proper compatibility patches for FWE with fook and MMM as you could run into problems otherwise. Hope this helps.
  3. Mods being used? Have you tried stripping your character? (i assume you have) Have you altered your characters stats/traits at any point in the console? Have you loaded the game with just fallout3.esm or tried reverting to an older save? Did it occur upon character creation/after equipping gear?
  4. Alternatively, you can run a search for the files located within these folders. The files you could search for would be of the likes: Anchorage.esm and ThePitt.exe - as its an executable file when downloaded and adds the .esm only after installation. hope this helps.
  5. Also if those methods dont work load from a Hard save, assuming you have one. Quick/auto saves often become corrupted especially when modding. Its a good practice to Hard save when you complete quest series so as to not lose hours or even days of work when this happens. Hope this helps.
  6. This problem is caused many times when you use a mod such as Pipboy 5000, then revert back to the original pipboy. If this is the case simply delete the pip5000 files in the Data folder. Such files would include any "scorptech" folders in both the meshes and textures directories, "locomotion" which can be found in meshes/characters/_1stperson, and four other art files which can be found and deleted in meshes/characters/_male - these files are as follows: femalelefthandpipboyglove femalelefthandpipboyglove1st lefthandpipboyglove lefthandpipboyglove1st Please note that this is only a proven fix for the scenario above. I speak only from experience so i cant vouch for it fixing anything other than the pipboy5000 mod, though i imagine it can be applied to just about any pipboy mod. As for the UI problem, if by chance you use DarNified's UI mod, then make sure you copy/paste the fonts into the .ini file accordingly. Alot of times this will fix distorted screens while using his mod. Hope this helps.
  7. No one? I assumed someone would've brought it up at some point, seems like it would be a common change to his mod....
  8. A missing mesh shouldnt be enough to crash the game though. I can attest however that if you run certain mods together (primarily MMM) w/o have mod compatibility patches running you can have all sorts of errors, everything from CTD's to your noted Save crash. In some cases where auto IS enabled you can go up to an hour playing along w/o knowing ur crashing. The autosave prompt comes up so you think ur safe, only to find out it didnt actually save and you CTD when you manually try to do it. No idea if this would be your issue but looking into forming a compatibility patch, perhaps thumbin around with FOiP for a bit might give you a start for troubleshooting. Hope that helps.
  9. Hrm, well you should be able to play in any mode you want w/o running into those issues, but if you're happy, we're happy ;)
  10. okay well only other thing i can think of would be to try the console key combined with the pause. This is a really dumb issue but after doing research on it when it was causing me problems i found nothing. Hopefully theres an official fix somewhere that we're not seeing. It hasnt cause me issues since doing the above but then again maybe ive been lucky. :pinch:
  11. Keep in mind that FOSE is in a beta state right now so there can be errors for some people, having said that if you want to uninstall it, simply delete the "src" folder and all documents containing "fose_xxxx" where xxxxx is the rest of the filename. ALL files youll need to delete are contained in the Program Files/Bethesda Softworks/Fallout3 directory. NOT in the data folder. On a side note, as ive not done testing with this, I cant guarantee that removing FOSE wont corrupt your save file. I dont see a reason it would just figured id give you the heads up just in case. Hope that helps.
  12. If the problem started post modding it could also be mod compatibility issues. Downloading the right modcomp patches and making use of F3Edit can be enough to fix randomly timed crashes. Especially if this is the only game you have issues with. If its not a hardware issue id look toward addressing this issue, see if it changes behavior. Hope this helps.
  13. The only thing i can think of that would cause that is either a corrupt file in which shadows in game have been realigned somehow, or, your graphics card's driver needs to be rolled back. As they say "if it aint broke, dont fix it". Do shadows still appear where they should be as well i.e. at your feet? if you have shadows enabled and they dont show up there, that could be an answer. Tough for me to tell from that screen. Hope this helps. Ive also heard of certain OS causing issues with certain games, especially the newer ones. For example vista, some people couldnt even play the game for 3 months until everything was patched. Seems to me however that your issue would be larger than just a small in game graphical issue. Id lean more towards the driver.
  14. I have an older rig myself and i can definately attest to there being a higher amount of lag in any one of the megaton style buildings, not just the apartment. But yes even with graphics settings on low i still experience more lag there than anywhere else. possibly from all the added detail in there. the cure is simple. upgrade your system or decrease the load on ur pc, i.e. no other programs running with FO3/disabling extra unneeded mods what have you. hope this helps.
  15. "but he's white as a ghost, he's whiter than a frickin paper.." this can be caused if your "flush" setting is too high. its normally right below the skin tone bar in the chargen. reduce this setting and see if you notice a change. "after i finish the storyline, I suppose i can still wander through the wasteland in open-world, right?" yes and no. if you dont have the DLC's then you can only play up til your last save point before the game ends. if you have broken steel the game picks up after that point. its important to note you can explore/side quest all you want from that last save point you just cant complete the story or the credits will start rolling. "can I change my character's race or sex without starting over?" yes. while in game press the tilde key (~) to bring up the console menu. type "showracemenu" (no quotes), from there you can alter your characters appearance all you want. if youd like to change your name type "shownamemenu". "I read alot about the haircut bug..." with the showracemenu command you wont have to worry about such things as visiting pinkerton isnt even necessary. "if i have no other windows open, but only the game running in fullscreen, and I ALT+TAB to desktop..." this is a common issue. to make the mouse appear after an alt tab, you can press cntrl alt del. once the task manager comes up, click anywhere on the screen and itll usually show your mouse. exit out of the TM and do w/e you need to do. not the most technical fix i know but hey.. w/e works.. as for the crashing, also a common issue. for myself i find if you pause the game prior to tabbing i can get back in by alt tabbing back to it. ive suggested this to others though and it doesnt help everyone. "omm show a fallout3.esm file in the list of mods, and I usually ignore it, and all is well." the fallout3.esm is the essential file in which the game runs. if you only play the game straight you never have to worry about "loading" it as it loads by itself. however once you start adding mods to your game thats where it gets checked and loaded first. "do I still get a tenpenny tower penthouse suite if I disarmed the bombed..." as far as i know, no. you choose either apartment based off the decision you make in megaton. as far as i can tell evil characters get the tenpenny suite, and good characters get the megaton house. i could be wrong though. there might be a way to have both houses at once but as i use a custom made house ive never tried. Hope that helps, welcome to the forums and gl in the game.
  16. Are you clicking the tab or alt tabbing back to it? Doubt it'll matter but I always alt tab back. My rig is much much older than yours so its gotta be something other than a pc issue.
  17. I recently downloaded DarN's UI and FWE. I have everything running fine, but DarN removed the sneak/stealth indicator to make the game harder. I simply need someone with knowledge on this issue to tell me how to re-enable it. Ive scoured all the XML files i can find and have yet to find anything that would suggest it shouldn't be showing up. All values I've seen are set to "true/1". Its hugely annoying playing stealth characters w/o this feature, especially when you're playing on such an old rig. (Radeon x1300/Athlon 64 3400+) Thanks in advance for the help.
  18. @ Inebreatedhobo - Ive found this problem can be solved by simply pausing the game (Esc) prior to the alt tab. Upon opening it back up, you might have a small delay, but so long as your desktop mouse disappears after clicking the FO3 tab, it means its loading. I always save prior to an alt tab though, (which is often) to prevent any exceptions to this rule (which so far haven't been any). Hope that helps.
  19. Ah, my apologies on the mispost, thank you however for the answer.
  20. Evening all, just a small issue. [Hidden] is not showing up on my UI anymore while crouching. I can't tell if this is due to an adjustment made by either Darn's Ui mod or perhaps FWE.. my question is simply, where do i find the xml (assuming) that i can correct this error? And preferably what value would go in the field to make sure it shows up? Ive scoured my current xmls for clues but have only found one with even a mention to what COULD be a stealth indicator (Hud_Main_Menu.xml) and it shows this value already... "<_SneakVisible> &false; <_SneakVisible>". Even after making it "true", no dice. Thanks in advance for the help.
  21. Awesome news Skree thanks for the heads up. Never would've guessed it'd be armor. But now that i see it i suppose what else could it be, really? Thanks again.
  22. This is possibly just a PS creation, but I'm curious if the wings in this photo is a mod... http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/ima...-1245635286.jpg Thanks in advance.
