  1. I plan mostly on playing rpgs like Skyrim and various games with mod potential. I modded Oblivion more than I played when I had a desktop in high school, but most of the mods were geared towards making the game run at an acceptable frame rate. This is something that I don't even want to consider (I probably will anyways...) when playing on whatever I purchase. The laptop I'm looking at now (again- MSI GE60 0NC-042US 15.6" SteelSeries Gaming Notebook) has an Ivy Bridge i7 processor and a GTX 660M gpu. Overclocking is not something I want to do, taking life longevity of the machine into account. I really just want to know if they're overkill (which I wouldn't mind exactly) or if they'll even be able to adequately handle top rpgs of today. This model does fall well within my 1300 dollar budget, which is a major plus.
  2. I hear a lot of good things about Asus. I wouldn't mind one, but I haven't seen any really impressive models (mostly because I haven't looked for one...).

I'll keep the question that I asked before up-

What is the major difference between the GTX 400, 500, and 600 series? It looked as though the 580 was better than a lot of the 600. Maybe I was looking at it from the wrong perspective?
  3. I had a bit of fun configuring a machine on the Falcon site. I think they're a bit out of the ballpark on pricing for me, but I do love the level of customization they put into it. I'm currently checking out your machine. I like the cooling system and overall shape of it.

  4. I'm willing to shell out up to 1300 dollars (USD) on a gaming laptop and have a specific one in mind. My brother purchased an Alienware last year and I'm well aware that he could have gotten much better for a lower price (his was over 1700...). I'm looking for quality, not a namebrand. The recent MSI steelseries seems to have a laptop within my spending range and it's definitely looks better (as far as specs go) than my brothers. I'd like a second opinion on what to get. My brother suggested I get an Alienware...

I'm sticking with the 15.6" size, at least 8 gigs of ram, and a processor and graphics card at least from 2011. I would rather have it play Skyrim on high to ultra settings. I'm looking for a decent external fan for whatever I purchase because I never trust internal fans.

I'm not asking for anyone to find one for me, I'm just asking for a little input that will help me make the best decision in my purchase. I'm currently looking up differences between competing graphics cards and processors. Besides the hardware itself, I'd also like a 1 year warranty. A lot of the sites I've visited have some sort of warranty offered. I've had this little netbook for well over 4 years and it's still completely functional with minor aesthetic damage, but I'm sure that a gaming laptop will take more abuse from heat than my netbook.

Other than that, personal favs are welcome along with general advice. Thanks in advance!

  5. It seems like, after actually watching the video, that the problem may be the resistance bug. You don't need to exploit the game or have uber gear, you just need the correct gear for dealing with a fire using dragon and a game with a patch that doesn't break your resistances. I'm playing a Nord on the PS3 version and have quite an easy time with frost dragons because of my racial, but I have to carry around fire resistant gear in case of an emergency fire dragon encounter (which I rarely use due to my adoption of an evasive play style). Also, don't worry about doing big damage. As long as you can handle your health while dishing out attacks, they'll go down eventually. I've got an upper teens leveled monk Khajiit and he fairs fine against dragons. Yeah, I constantly chug potions, but I get the job done eventually, lol.
  6. I've played Skyrim just about every day since getting it and have 3 wonderful characters now. I only take breaks for-real life stuff (like when I drove up to Tennessee from Florida to see my mom for an early Thanksgiving, my first out of state trip going that far alone btw), planning what I'm going to do with each character, and Terraria. I come to look on here every now and then, but try not to as the level of negativity I've been seeing on the boards about the game confuses and disappoints me. On Facebook, just about every conversation I have with anyone involves Skyrim in some way. I have more time (and crazy fan addiction) for the game than they do, so I have to hold off on some of my jokes until they get a better grasp of the game.

    I love the game.

  7. Because some people, like me, would rather enjoy seeing what's happening in Cyrodiil (like the war with the Imperials from their side) and Morrowind (Argonians galore!) currently. I'd much rather have a new (version of an old) expanse of land than items to use in areas in the game that I've explored already. It's not like they won't have new gear in the expansions anyways.
  8. I mean that they could have been something that they meant to take out for one perspective and just forgot to. When you switch to first or third, it switches models and could have an attack set specifically for that view attached to the model. Since I'm on PS3, there's not much else I can do for you. You can try using tfc (if that's still a console command) while in combat and catch a screenie of it happening to investigate the matter.
  9. My brother has this problem, too. I don't use her, the guy I use actually switches to whatever is appropriate (though sometimes he has weird preferences towards weaker armor and weapons). I think her AI weapon priority is a bit messed up. Hopefully they'll patch that.
  10. I think I know what you're talking about. I think it may either be another set of power attacks (I've remember strange things like that happening when I used dual wielding more) or it could be input lag mixing up some of the animations. I've noticed sometimes an extra set of alternating swings going the opposite direction of previous power attacks. What view do you play in?
  11. I'm on PS3 and have always been able to dual wield, both through the normal menu and the favorites menu. Use L1 for left hand weapon/spell selection and R1 for right hand weapon/spell selection. Your copy may be messed up if this doesn't work...
  12. That may be something associated with one of the perks. I tried just after I read this to get an extra couple of swings in with various input methods and haven't been able to link anything to the power attacks. I play in first person mostly, but I tried this in 3rd to see exactly what my character was doing and didn't notice anything different. What all perks do you have for 1-handed?

I've got: Armsman, Fighting Stance, Critical Charge, Savage Strike, and Bladesman so far (with most of my other perks in Smithing, Enchanting, Archery, Light Armor, and Sneak).

Also, what platform are you playing on?

  13. I know people that have trouble anticipating the sweet spots on locks, so this tree is warranted. The tree also has more use than just picking locks, such as finding more loot. The perk that makes you a duplicate key for certain locks would be convenient for quick entry of favored loot spots.
