Game crashes at start up, even after reinstall.
Katuko replied to Speedstripe's topic in Fallout 3's Mod Troubleshooting
I ran the Windows 7 install again and chose to "repair" the installation. This means that they overwrite the system files but do not change the registry or other files on the computer. For some reason, this fixed Fallout again. It has run smoothly ever since, even after I crashed it repeatedly by stupidly loading mods in the wrong order. -
Shader/texture transparency problem
Katuko replied to Katuko's topic in Fallout 3's Mod Troubleshooting
Ah, I have an earlier version of the FOMM. That menu simply isn't there. I'll go download the newest version instead. Thanks for your help. :) -
Shader/texture transparency problem
Katuko replied to Katuko's topic in Fallout 3's Mod Troubleshooting
Thanks, but I already the mod manager. I guess I'm simply confused as to where I can edit those settings, as when I try to open shader packages I get some sort of menu I can't really use (it's blank even when I load a package into it). Could you please give me a very simple walkthrough of what menus to operate, and what the default shader package is? :) -
Shader/texture transparency problem
Katuko replied to Katuko's topic in Fallout 3's Mod Troubleshooting
Sorry to bump, but I haven't gotten a reply yet and I've been unable to solve the problem on my own. :( -
This worked properly before, I'm not sure what has changed it. Recently I've noticed something weird about all textures that have transparency (alpha) applied. Instead of actually being drawn with proper alpha transparency, the effect is instead achieved by removing every other pixel from the drawn item. This seems like a filter used for lower-end machines, and really messes up the looks of glowing effects like laser and plasma weapons. I believe it started occurring after I installed the EVE plugin (Energy Visuals Enhanced) or possibly Fellout. Thos are the only two mods I have that change lighting. From what I know you can choose your pixel filters/shaders in the game settings, but unfortunately there is a small problem there: I have the Fallout Mod Manager installed, and have replaced the default Fallout Launcher with the script extender. In order to avoid problems with certain mods, I also installed Fallout 3 in a desktop folder rather than Program Files. This leads to me starting the default Fallout Launcher to access the settings, but then just getting told to install the game first. Apparently the launcher only checks Program Files for the installation and won't let me choose a different directory to search. So it boils down to this: Could anyone please tell me how to choose a shader that will apply proper alpha transparency rather than pixel removal; without using the launcher? I'm guessing it will involve editing a settings file somewhere, but I'm not sure where to start. :)

Fallout...fellout? Constant crashes to desktop.

"Sounds like a confession"? Dude, he mentioned torrenting a new copy not long afterward, borrowing a disk is nothing. :P Anyways, I got a similar problem. I can't start Fallout 3 at all; mods or no mods, even on a clean install. Having a downloaded copy shouldn't mean anything to you, as all they do is remove the disk and serial check, to my knowledge. If you have the disk still: Try leaving it in the drive when starting, even on the pirated version. Alternately, mount the ISO and run it directly from disk, if possible. I dunno. Also, update all your drivers and such. Patch the game to the newest version. If nothing works (it didn't for me) then I have no idea. :/ -
Creepiest thing that happened to you?
Katuko replied to IndorilTheGreat's topic in Fallout 3's Spoilers
In no particular order: - Going through those tunnels that are full of Deathclaws. Not the Sanctuary, but near Old Olney. It was while running from one after wasting most of my Stimpaks I discovered they could open doors. :( Got a bit less scary when I got a lucky Baseball Bat crit in VAT, though. That was a pretty epic kill. - Entering Springvale school and encountering some Raiders. I kill them all and investigate the building. Soon i find a prison cell full of child skeletons. Since then I've made sure to kill every single Raider I see, often with sadistic weapons such as the Dart Gun, Ripper, Power Fist or Pulse Grenades. - The baby carriage doll bomb. I'm pretty sure you know what I'm talking about. Worse was when I later quick-loaded, then went back through the tunnel. The bomb was gone, but the doll head was still there, frozen in mid-air due to a loading glitch. It just hang there, unresponsive to any input, and started at me with its creepy little eye. The other eye was gone. I haven't played through Point Lookout yet, but I'm expecting to be scared a few times. Hoping for it, in fact. :P The allusions to the Cthulhu Mythos sounds interesting. -

That was my guess as well, that it was not related to the games themselves; especially since installing Windows 7 fixed the problems for a while. he clean install must have overwritten the errors (possibly a broken DLL or register value?) and the error that must have caused them in the first place only recently reoccurred without me noticing. I already got a GFWL disabler, but I'll try disabling the disabler (:P) and run again. Thanks. EDIT: Neither disabling or enabling GFWL helped, sadly. But thanks for the help so far. Do you have any other guesses as to what could be wrong? -

Finally I find someone with the same problem as me. I've been on several forums looking for people with the same issue to no avail. Whenever I try to run Fallout, I just get a black window. No sound, just an infinite "loading" cursor until Windows finally tells me it's not responding and shuts it down. The weird thing is that the problem did not occur due to faulty mods: Everything was running smoothly until one day it just stopped working. And it took the Battlefield games with it, it seems. I can't run those either now. And to tell the truth, it's happened twice. First I was running Vista and got the problem. My friends said it was a problem with my drivers, so I updated all of those (I dunno how many times I've reinstalled the damn NVIDIA GEForce 9600M GT driver. It didn't work, so I didn't bother until about a week later when I installed Windows 7 and everything worked fine again. Now, six months later, the problem has returned. Uninstalling mods did not work. Reinstalling Fallout 3 did not work. Updating drivers (again!) did not work. Cleaning the registry and reinstalling Fallout in a different location did not work. I'll try what you said: Removing any and all traces of Fallout and Bethesda from my hard drive, then install it again. I don't think it'll work, but I'll try. Like TweekedOut, I'm not keen on having to reinstall Windows itself to get this working again. I'm pretty sure whatever a reinstall fixes can be mimicked by a small, Fallout-specific fix. -
consistent crash upon startup issue
Katuko replied to Riot Inducer's topic in Fallout 3's Mod Troubleshooting
I'm having this problem as well, Fallout 3 crashes on startup. A blackDOS-like window flashes, then it moves to the top-left corner and appears as a small black frame with the Fallout icon on its bar. It can't be closed, I have to end the process. No other error messages. My version worked just fine (with lots of mods and stuff too) until a week ago. Then it stopped working. It's run fine for over a year, but now it stopped. I installed the 1.7 patch, no difference. Disabled all mods, it doesn't work. But since you've got the same problem, Riot Inducer, I'll assume this is not a problem with mods. :/ -
Cut Man sounds perfect. Maybe, when the player arrives at the scene, he or she finds a half-active Cut Man trying to claw his way through a broken car? Guts Man is also fine, but I think it would be more interesting to have him attack with his bare hands and have a lot of HP. Makes him more unique. You had a really creative take on Ice Man, I like it. :P There was a scrapped freeze weapon known as the Cryolator, and Mothership Zeta added both a Cryo Mine and a Cryo Grenade. A freezing weapon is definitely possible. Bomb Man's pretty standard fare, I guess, but he's the only robot I know of that would use grenades instead of missiles. Thumbs up. Fire Man: Not much to say, but I like. Make him have a torch on his head and dual-wield the flamers and he'll be really awesome. Elec Man: Trade the laser for a Tesla Cannon to fit with his powerful electrical theme. ;) Metal Man: I prefer to see Metal Man as flinging the sawblades as his long range attack. Like deadly Frisbees or something. I think Air Man could use some sort of grenades or mines as his primary weapon, as it would be easy for him to drop them on people from up in the sky. Shooting lasers would require him to a have great precision and stay still in the air while aiming. Wood Man: "Gorilla warfare"? :P I know that he beats his chest in MM2, but it's spelled "guerilla". Anyways, Wood Man would be interesting. Maybe give him a big wooden shield and high DR but make him weak against fire? Heat Man: Nuclear fire? Dude, you are a genius! Now all we need is for him to explode like a mini-nuke when he is killed or destroyed, and we're good to go. Crash Man: "locked, loaded, ready, and armed" - reference to "Programmed to Fight" by The Megas? Crash Man sounds incredibly dangerous given that he can dodge explosives and fire them off at will himself. I'd think that a Tesla Cannon would be quite effective against him, however. Maybe his deactivated body could be surrounded by enemy soldiers who are trying to rebuild him into a war machine? Flash Man: I think slow-mo would be a better power, but a Mesmetron-like blast is also good. Mind power is what is most important. Quick Man: It's good throwing things, but don't forget to up his speed as well. That is his main gimmick, after all. Bubble Man: Just for kicks, make this guy only shoot useless bubbles on land, but in watery areas he can lay mines or shoot missiles/torpedoes. Mega Man being a weapon-stealing unit is of course fine. I think he should be more android-like than the previous robots, though, since Light is said to be a genius. He made those designs in the first place, surely he can do it again even when he's lost the original. At least give Mega Man a unique AI with a great sense of justice -- if he understands someone to be evil, he can and will terminate them with everything he's got. By the way, we need Top Man. Roller blades, man!

For a bit of shameless self-advertising, here's a topic I made a while ago about Metroid and Mega Man weapons/enemies being made as a mod: http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showtopic=143923 I see that you want the Robot Masters as companions, but since I've already written so much about this it would be a shame to let it go to waste, right? :P You had an idea about having to reactivate the shutdown robots. How about this: The robots were shut down because they went on a rampage (a nod to the actual Mega Man games), and when you awake them they attack you. If you kill one, you get its data chip, which can be given to the Brotherhood or something so that they repair or rebuild the robot for you. Liberty Prime might take years to build, but they certainly have enough Protectrons and Sentries, so I don't think it's too far fetched. EDIT: Leave out Air Man or nerf his power. It's boring being invincible. :D

Various Video Game weapons/armor/characters
Katuko replied to Katuko's topic in Fallout 3's Mod Ideas
@Sehvekah: have you seen that "realistic Mario" project? The concept art for that thing looked very realistic and dystopian. @Foxxieboy: I was thinking of a charge function for the Metroid arm cannons, but i decided to leave it out. I'm not sure why. Do you believe me if I said I actually forgot about Mega Man himself while writing out his other weapons? :P I haven't played the X or Zero series, so I can't really comment on those characters before I've read up about them, but it sounds interesting. -

- First time I heard a Feral Ghoul. There I am, just minding my own business, and suddenly this guttural hiss/growl sound plays. And then the running footsteps. Oh, God, the running footsteps. In a dark old library with lots of doors, no less. - Any Yao Guai ambush. (Got Animal Friend just to keep them at bay.) - Deathclaw Sanctuary. More a fear for my life than me being afraid of the Deathclaws themselves, though. - After installing Mart's Mutant Mod: First Floater encounter. What the hell are those things? - The various Vaults. Some seriously creeped me out, like the hallucinogenic gases and crazy survivors. - Baby carriage bomb in the metros. Seriously freaked me out when that doll head came flying at me. -
Just get he Groovatron mod. Amongst posing, moving and otherwise manipulating NPCs, it also allows you to undress them at will.
