  1. So I've bitten he bullet and upgraded to Windows 10, and the miracle of all miracles has happened; I don't hate it! I've spent a long time getting my HTPC gaming set up right: controllers, wireless keyboard, big monitor, charging docks, headsets. The works. It's a gamers wet dream. I love being a PC gamer. That said I started on consoles as a teenager and Halo was a large part of that. I've since got rid of my old hardware and games but I'm feeling the itch. I'm tempted to pick up an Xbox One to play Halo again. With the new streaming feature it could be amazing. My PC setup is already in place; if the streaming works it would mean I don't need to attach the Xbox One to the monitor and rebind my bluetooth headphones and xbox controller every time I want to play the Xbox One. It could just boot up and stream wireless through the existing hardware and framework. It sounds almost too good to be true, so I'm wondering if anybody else has tried this? Reviews on the internet seem to be widely mixed. I'm not a graphics snob, a little degradation won't bother me as long as it's playable (heck, half the games I play are over 7 years old). A little feedback from "real people" would be really good for me to decide if this is worth pursuing.
  2. Who doesn't enjoy comprehension exercises? Hehe.
  3. Unfortunately it can only check if a book has been opened. There's no way that I'm aware of to detect the last page, as much as I'd like to. Of course then the question comes; did the player actually read or just skip to last page? I'm going to have to code some mind reading scripts! :P
  4. Thank you. That value will be attached to an MCM in the full release so people can tailor it to their tastes.
  5. Yep, that's the one. Thanks for the compliment. Can't believe it took about six hours of trawling through the Creation kit Wiki for it to dawn on me though. Far too much coffee in my system now. *Starts Shaking* I put a test version up here.
  6. So I managed to work around this. The script now maintains a variable with a count of how many times it's performed the task. It cross references this with the "Books Read" stat. If they're equal then the effect doesn't happen (because you are re-reading a book, so the stat doesn't increase), if the variable is less than the stat (because the book is new), it does. What this means is that my script will fire for any book read in the game from any source including mods!
  7. Hey all, So I'm trying to write a dynamic script that applies an effect whenever a book is opened (I don't want to apply a script directly to books because of incompatibilities), but only the first time that book is read. Using SKSE I can run a script every time a book is opened. SKSE also offers a function to detect if a book has been read or not, but to detect if it has been read I need the Reference. Because my script fires when the Book Menu is displayed it doesn't know which book it is, meaning I have no reference to test against. I've trawled the Creation Kit wiki for hours and I've found functions that can get all sorts of useless crap, but I can't find anywhere how to get the reference of an open book, or anything the player is looking at really. There's a function to get the reference for something the player has grabbed, but nothing to do with anything in the inventory. Does anyone know anything I don't? Thanks.
  8. I don't want to cause any offence here, but I really don't see this as a problem, and that's coming from somebody who generally likes to see the lore reflected as accurately as possible. In this instance it really is a gameplay over lore thing (and Bethesda have done much worse in the past for the same reason). If some artifacts can be tempered and others not then it becomes very inconsistent. Tempering is a key component to keeping levelled items relevant at higher levels. If something cannot be tempered it puts it at a huge disadvantage. To adhere to the lore you'd have to de-level every artifact, balance that against which can be tempered or not, and then hope that other mods fall in line, otherwise the inconsistency becomes even more apparent when other authors use the Vanilla standard. While you're at it you could make it so that Daedric isn't forge-able except under a full moon. In my opinion that would be a really good mod, but the USKP team don't work to lore, they work to the game; if the game breaks the lore so will they. I may not like it, but the USKP team have done the best they can with a bad hand on this one.
  9. Correction: Tolkien Elves are meant to be graceful and beautiful. TES Elves can be whatever Bethesda wants. That said I personally like the change, but there are mods about that change them into something else: Ethereal Elven Overhaul for example.
  10. Just go to the Nexus files tab and don't search. It'll show you the highest endorsed mods out there. Usually a good place to start.
  11. I wouldn't bother with Steam backup, just copy the game directory. I've got WinRAR backups of different builds that I hotswap onto different PC's on a regular basis. Install Steam - Drop Game Directory - Install Game on Steam - Run LOOT - Play
  12. I could offer an optional Plugin that would add a perk (or three tiers) that grant more experience per read in the Speech tree. I'm loathed to touch perk trees though. Maybe just some passive bonus for reading X number of books? What kind of bonuses would be well received? Also probably worth mentioning now; I won't be starting work on this until USLEEP is out. It'll be a whole lot easier than trying to transfer later.
  13. So this is an idea I've been bouncing around my head for a while, since I finished The Eloquent Reader. A complete overhaul to the functionality of books: The mod would have a dependency on Book Covers Skyrim and it's Lost Library expansion. If you're in any way serious about books in Skyrim these mods should grace your load order. It would include the Speechcraft boost from most books that is present in The Eloquent Reader. It would have skill requirements for skill books; you must have a basic understanding of the skill before you understand what the book is explaining (Level 25 in the skill). This would prevent Skill Books levelling skills that aren't wanted. It would include the ability to create your own Spell Books which allow you to create your own library of Arcane Knowledge. Reading these books allows you to forget and relearn spells at will, giving you complete control of your Spell inventory. This is based on my own Library of the Arcane mod. This is done using a Scribes Kit that can be used anywhere in the world (similar to Field Alchemy); you can only write Spell Books for Spells currently in your inventory.Spell Tomes will have separate textures to Spell Books; crafted spell books will use Edwarrs Spell Tome Books. The idea is to present these functions in cleaner, more efficient manner than in previous iterations whilst improving compatibility. As all these functions are geared towards improving how interrelated the Books to Knowledge relationship is it makes sense to combine them into a single mod. As you can see some of the groundwork is laid out in my previous work, but there's a lot to do still. Would people be interested in seeing this mod made? While it's one that I'd like to have in my own game and will be done eventually, knowing there's a call for it from the community will help my motivation.
  14. It's not just you. The amount of times I've built my "perfect" Skyrim and played it for a few hours and then thought I wonder if there's a mod for that?" and then done a complete rebuild and restart is unbelievable. Damn mod authors being so good!
  15. I'm going to have to dust off the old Creation Kit/TES5Edit at some point then. I've got a few mods that have the USKP as a master that'll need to be sorted. I'm glad it's being unified though, should make it much easier for everyone.
  16. Hey people, So there's a few mods that offer to disable/hide more elements of the HUD, but is there any way to stop the Health/Magicka/Stamina bars from fading? I'm using Frostfall and I quite like having the bars there permanently so I can keep a real time track of what's going on; but it's quite annoying how Frostfall's bars are always on yet my H/M/S fade in and out. Thanks for any help.
  17. Try reading the sticky at the top of the forum. 99.9% of the time you won't get what you want here. I make my own mods, but I'll sometimes put ideas up here anyway; the ones I haven't had time to approach. I've never had a single one made for me. No point in getting upset over it, it's just how people are; they have their own ideas and work on them. Very few modders actually take requests, and fewer still go out looking for inspiration (they've got enough of their own). As Fenryr said, try it yourself. You may enjoy it!
  18. Firstly: DON'T BUMP THREADS. Seriously, it's stickied right up there at the top. Onto the topic at hand: I don't know if the named Imperial Saddle is any different to Convenient Horses, but Craftable Horse Barding provides quite a few different saddles and armours to pick from. Works best with Immersive Horses. If you haven't tried it out but enjoy having useful horses you owe it to yourself to check it out.
  19. So here's an idea that I've had for while but haven't had time to look at myself. It would be a nice thing if finishing the main quest actually had a good repercussion in that aggressive dragons would stop spawning after the main quest. A small change, but it would show that Paarthurnax is training dragons and Alduin isn't causing havok. Non-aggressive dragons could still be seen flying around if possible. To counter this (to make sure you can still get souls for shouts) a Challenge Dragon shout could be used to spawn an aggressive dragon (or aggravate a local one if there is a non-aggressive one already spawned). This makes another reward for completing the main quest the fact you can pick your battle locations with dragons, rather than them picking you. Thanks to anyone who takes a look at this.
  20. Hence the term "patch". Many closed city alterations have been patched to work with Open Cities; trust me, I've tried most of them and am very familiar with Open Cities documentation. Fact is Solitude Expansion only modifies the exterior anyway, it's just a few bits are interfering with the Open City. Thanks for your time though!
  21. I've recently been rebuilding my game using some new mods. Open Cities has been the cornerstone for my game since it came out and I'm really psyched to use Dawn of Skyrim with it thanks to nonoodles. I've also found another mod that makes Solitude even better; Solitude Expansion. However there's a few bugs even when not using Dawn of Skyrim and the patch. The cliff encroaches on some the additions Solitude Expansion introduces. The alternative entrance into Solitude is also broken, it works going up, but not down, and after going up there's a rock blocking the passageway. The ID's of the rocks are as follows : Cliff = 0006e76d, Alternate Entrance Rock = 0900fb9e. These were obtained using the following load order (mainly so I could use Alternative Start to get into the game quickly): Skyrim.esm Update.esm Unofficial Skyrim Patch.esp Dawnguard.esm Unofficial Dawnguard Patch.esp Hearthfires.esm Unofficial Hearthfire Patch.esp Dragonborn.esm Unofficial Dragonborn Patch.esm Solitude Expansion.esp Open Cities Skyrim.esp Alternate Start - Live Another Life.esp OCS + Hearthfire Patch.esp Would it be possible for somebody to create a patch? I have some modding ability, but patches are just beyond my understanding on this scale. Many thanks for your time.
  22. So this is definitely a tall order, but has anyone tried to get this lot working together? From the research I've done it's possible to get patches that work on the modular versions of JK's Skyrim, ETaC, and Dawn of Skyrim, albeit some of them based on older versions of the mods. But the truth is that despite the amazing character these mods provide, individually or separately, I simply cannot let go of Open Cities. I've been using it so long that it's incredibly uncomfortable going back to closed cities. Now I've currently got choices. ETaC and JK's smaller cities and villages currently have patches being worked on. There's a patch for JK's Skyrim with Open Cities, but it's buggy, and the promised update hasn't appeared. There's also an Open Cities patch for an older version of Dawn of Skyrim too. However, now that the JK and Dawn of series' have both been left by their respective authors it seems an ideal time to patch the OC, JK's, and Dawn of together. That would then leave the current author of the ETaC/JK patches to keep up with MissJennaBee's updates. I have some modding experience, but not to this extent.I'm struggling to keep my crossbow mod moving, so if somebody would like to see these patched together and has the capability I'd be very appreciative.
  23. Sorry I haven't checked this thread lately, I thought it was dead. I'm glad I'm not the only one who wants this. W2nTeD, thanks for the tips. If I find any spare time I'll look into it.
  24. In response to post #24746459. Because it's illegal? The only legal way presented to people to sell their mods has now been removed. Even the donation system in something of a grey area legally.
  25. I'm hardly surprised, but I am disappointed. While I don't like capitalism I do believe authors have the right to choose how their intellectual property is used and distributed. I would never put my mods behind a paywall, but that doesn't mean others shouldn't. This first iteration of paid mods was abysmal, but rather than progressing, repairing, and taking what the calm minded members of the community was advocating for improvement Bethesda have caved to knee-jerk peer-pressure. I can see why people were angry. Putting well established mods behind a paywall? When was that ever a good idea. I think Arthmoor got it right; he put a brand new mod up, and I hold nothing against him for doing that. In the end it's the authors choice if they want to take that 25% over nothing. Still, I hope what will come out of this is people supporting the community more, both through direct financial donations where deserved, and supporting the websites that support us.
