  1. Me too-- several threads going on this issue right now, so far the consensus is the last Steam update messed things up. It's possible that mods which used to work fine are conflicting with the updates. Out of curiosity, is there a way to re-vert Steam to an earlier version?
  2. Is there a quick and easy way to disable ALL mods and try launching it vanilla? Pretty sure my mods aren't the problem, but I really wanna play... I find it gratifying that I'm not the only one experiencing issues. Misery really does love company!
  3. Google code link also empty. Sigh oops-- found the file. Easy to download and run, and it spots errors in your mods [like missing files etc] that would be hard to spot otherwise. Not sure it's going to solve all my problems, but it's a start. http://code.google.com/p/better-oblivion-sorting-software/downloads/detail?name=BOSS%20v2.1.1%20Installer.exe&can=2&q=
  4. I may be looking at two separate issues-- currently, Steam itself won't load properly for me. I can launch the game via NMM, but get the same crash. I suspect it's a load order issue for me, and as such trying to download BOSS, but the link in Nexus Mods is dead, only contains a link to the Google code version. I'm not stupid, but I'm not as skilled with this sort of thing as I ought to be-- pretty reluctant to just wade in...
  5. Having a similar issue, sounds like some others are as well. Though I've heard of BOSS, I've no idea what it is or where to find it-- a little help?
  6. I'm getting the same thing. I added a bunch of mods yesterday, and last night was getting a very brief error message about needing Heathfire to get the mods to work. I thought what the heck, it's only 5 bucks, so I went ahead and bought that. Not sure it ever installed properly-- I don't get that error anymore, but when I try to load the game, I get the Bethesda screen and first couple drum beats, just a glimpse of the Skyrim dragon screen before it shuts down. I can't make Steam itself open at all... support opens, but that's a whole different deal. Needless to say, I've disabled all the recently added mods to no effect. EDITED TO ASK: Did anyone else have a rather large Steam update in the last couple days? I suspect that the root of my problem lies there...
  7. Thanks for the help-- I got brave, and re-downloaded the newest version without un-installing the old one. Seemed to work perfectly, it found and categorized all my existing mods. The only precaution I took was to screen shot the mod page from the old version if NMM and email myself the image in case I needed a list of what I was running. Happy to say that seems to have been unnecessary!
  8. Long story short: been away from the game for a while, running Nexus Mod Manager 0.15.15, would like to update to the current version BUT when I click the 'update' button, the progress bar flashes for a while without progressing and eventually just disappears. Occasionally, I then get a 'NMM encountered an error and needs to be shut down', but not every time. The game runs fine and mods work as is, but I don't seem to be able to add new mods. Can I download a new version via the nexus file center without loosing my current mods? How will this affect my saved games? Thanks for your attention-- hope someone can offer insight.
  9. For me, it's first person always and only-- I don't play games that don't support that. It's the difference between watching a movie versus starring it the movie.
  10. It's kinda ridiculous-- many-- maybe all?-- NPCs in Oblivion switched to their undies when they slept, or slept naked if you used that sort of mod. Can't imagine why this simple bit of world building was skipped in Skyrim.
  11. I'm not a fan of the 'humans with pointy ears' approach, but I think they could have created an alien looking elf that was still beautiful rather than weirdly malformed. The tradition of the elves as a race of tall, slender, beautiful people goes back WAY before Tolkien, arguably to the Tuatha of Irish legend. To me, it's one of the more irritating corners Bethesda cut in the rush to publish, knowing the mod community would fill in the blanks.
  12. There's a big fine for breaking the law of gravity!
  13. I think it's a little out of line to accuse someone of fetishism just because they'd like the characters too look a little more human and complete. Not a high priority for most of us, but not really an excuse to bash people, either.
  14. I wish there were real differences in speed and stealth between the two, but I've played both and can't really see a difference. The fact that you can make either weightless at about the same point in the game when money becomes pointless [because you'll be swimming in it] just makes it worse. I'm not a Bethesda basher, I've played and loved all the Elder Scrolls series for years, but this is one aspect of the vanilla game that seems like it would have been an easy fix, and added a lot of realism.
  15. Wow, condolences... I'm not enough of a tec to offer any but the obvious help: if you are using any mods, disable them one at a timve [starting with anything like textures that impacts on the display]. Perhaps the best thing would be to save your savegame files, then reinstall...
