You appear to be the only other human on Earth that has the same desire as I do. Too bad literally everyone else seems to be fine with it because there doesn't seem to be any way to fix it besides getting a complete inventory UI replacement. I settled on getting FallUI. It basically IS an complete UI replacement, but its does the job of making it navigable.
