There are more than the 5 types of mer mentioned above. Here's the fullest list I know: Aldmer(First Ones): Original mer who departed Old Ehlnofex when it was destroyed; degenerated into current factions Ayleids(Wild Elves or Heartland High Elves): Truest descendants of Aldmer, who hide in the wilderness Altmer(High Ones): Snobbish claimers of pure blood dwelling in the Summerset Isles Chimer(Changed Ones): Altmer who changed their religious view and followed the prophet Veloth to Vvardenfell; transformed in Dunmer due to the Tribunal's greedy actions Dwemer(Deep or Smart Ones): Commonly misnamed Dwarves, the Dwemer were average height, were the first to colonize Morrowind, and sought knowledge through any means necessary, respecting no spirit; vanished during the Battle of Red Mountain Dunmer(Cursed Ones): Following the betrayal of the Tribunal, the race of the Chimer was transformed into the Dunmer, who inhabit Morrowind Bosmer(Tree Sap Ones): The weakest of all mer, the Bosmer are often the victims of war, trapped between the Khajiiti and Altmer; they have the ability to become plants and animals, and make their living more through stealth than anything else; they are forbidden from eating any plant material, and so must eat only meat, often resorting to cannibalism(there are enough bodies lying around, with how many get killed) Falmer(Snow Ones): A vanished race of Solstheim; rumors persist they degenerated into the Rieklings Maormer(Tropical Ones): A little-known race of mer who dwell in tropical climates Orsimer(Pariahs Ones): A race of mer the others have tried very hard to forget; when Trinimac, the Altmer hero-god, was transformed into Malacath by Boethiah, some of the Altmer followed Malacath, becoming the Orsimer, and eventually degenerating into the race of Orcs Manmer(Man Ones): The male without a father products of Altmer slavemasters and their Nordic slaves, the Manmer, as the Nords called them, were faithful to their Altmer ancestors, but were separated from them during the war that forced the Aldmeri Dominion out of High Rock; settling in High Rock, the Manmer eventually evolved into the Bretons Men are also a descended race of the mer. Their long lifespans were stolen by the Daedra in a bad deal, and they now live for only about a century. Khajiiti are believed to be the products of Azura interfering. Legend has it that Azura linked a group of Bosmer to the lunar cycles, and that the resulting subraces are the Khajiiti. Argonians are unique among the sentient species in that they are not apparently descended from some form of the Aldmer, who were in turn born of the Ehlnofey, or Earth Bones, who were the Aedra that birthed the world and became mortal. It seems that the Hist, a sentient species of trees, set several speices of non-sentient lizards against one another. The surviving species was gifted with intelligence, and became the Argonians.
