I disabled Unique Landscapes and that seems to have mostly fixed it, but I'd quite like to know what was going wrong

Hi, pretty new to Oblivion modding (much more experience with F3 FNV Skyrim and F4) and it seems to be a much more complex kettle of fish. I only recently downloaded the game and wanted to play it as untampered with as possible, only really bumping up the graphics and downloading a a balancing mod for the magic. At first it ran perfectly then I got a few crashes while I was in Chorrol. Now the same thing is happening in Skingrad but much worse, can barely go half a minute without a CTD. I thought it might be a compatibility issue between mods (specifically Unique Landscapes and Better cities) but when I tried to fix that with patches everyone lost their eyes.
