  1. I'm fairly certain that they wouldn't sue gamers for modding their game, but editing files to get access to DLC they're selling is a different matter entirely. It may not seem like it to us gamers, but to them and their lawyers it very much will. While it's debatable from now to the end of time if putting Paid For DLC on the game disk is a jerk move or not, the companies who make the game and are selling the DLC won't look at any community with high regards for giving away stuff they're selling. And while I doubt they'd go as far as to sue individual players, it's far far easier for their lawyers to send a Cease and Desist notice to the head guys here at the Nexus and/or use a legal boot to the face to get the site shut down (or if we're lucky, just the XCom section).
  2. Never underestimate what a company's lawyer will do. Remember back in 2003, the RIAA sued a 12 year old girl for downloading music. There are many many more cases where people and/or organizations were sued for trivial things. One needs to play it safe when dealing with a company selling something, even if a person believes it's not illegal or wrong.
  3. I'm more worried about what 2K (and/or Fraxis)'s lawyers would say to this kind of thing being spread around The Nexus. It's why things like this happens.
  4. That's the way it was in the original game, just on a larger scale. Instead of sending one or two Rookies into your team of 6, you sent out teams of 6 rookies among your squad of 20 and just wondered who wouldn't die from a spitball. That was the way it was in the original too. Hire a couple dozen soldiers, then sack 90% of them when you saw their crap stats and/or after they get a month of Psi Training and you find their willpower was more akin to a wet noodle. I mean, just look through some of the Tropes on X-Com's TVTropes Page, some shining examples are
  5. Here's something I just thought of, could it be that this change is in preparation for setting things up for Steam Workshop? To make sure that the files are set and 'clean' and such so there's a minimum of issues for when the Workshop is unveiled? I know I'm grasping at straws, but I personally would hate for Fraxis to tell us "This new XCom will be as mod friendly as we can make" and then 'ban' mods almost entirely. I mean, Civilization V is as mod friendly as Civ IV, and uses the Steam Workshop.
