Maybe thats what Beth's waiting for as far as Tes 5 goes, a really good effeicient game engine, lets face it, they got enough stick over Oblivion being resource hungry so maybe they did take notice.
If Tes 5 looks great and can be run on somat that cost twoppence hapepenny & a balloon, then I say Yay :thumbsup:

About the cheapest bestest ish cpu you could go for at the mo is the Intel Q9650 (3gig x 4 & a 12 mb cache) they were pricy but are coming down now that Intels new range (the I7 etc) are out. Other than that its the Extreme range but they still got prices that make you go ouch.

If you turn Anti Aliasing on in the game options menu, it turns HDR off,
Why?
HDR takes more graphical juice (as does AA) and I guess the boys at Beth thought that was the best thing to do at the time, either that or it was an oversight.
Oblivion wont let you take screenshots if HDR is off, regardless of what you set "ballowscreenshot" to.
If you want AA on, do it in your graphics card settings and then you can enable HDR (and have screenshots) in your game.

Fonger may have a point, did you use a win 7 upgrade or was it a "wipe the hard drive and full win 7 install job" ?
If you used an upgrade your ini file will still be as it was for vista, by deleting it and then running Oblivion you'll force the game to generate a new one.
Which just might improve things.
I went from using XP 32bit to Win 7 64 and had no framerate loss, what I did notice was greater stability though.

I use OBSE 18 and no problems, I also run two seperate computers (means I can have two seperate Oblivions with different mods running) and they both have OBSE 18 and the CFF RAM fix.
Are you running a steam version of Oblivion by any chance ?

I get the same result using it for Oblivion as I do for Fallout 3
No great jump in frame rates but the game loads faster and runs smoother with less stuttering, especially notice the difference when there lots of NPC's around.
As always though, back up your Oblivion.exe before you alter it with CFF.

I'm running an Antec 900 case so I'll agree with CommanderCrazy about the 1200
With all the fans set on low (can hardly hear them) it keeps everthing nice and cool, my ati 5970 sits at 34 degrees idle and the highest I've seen is 58 degrees underload.
Would allow you to try a bit of overclocking if the mood took you.
Loads of space inside and well thought out too.

Another odd one.
According to my downloading history I downloaded 2 mods that were uploaded on the 1st of Jan 1970 (01:00, 1 January 1970 to be precise).
Titles are missing but the 1970 dates are there and I (apparently) downloaded them at 03:43, 2 March 2010 and 00:49, 3 March 2010

Commandercrazy you're obviously a fairly experienced pc user and are aware of the risks involved in turning the UAC off, its your pc and your software and the way you have things works for you.
What I'm trying to point out (and I think Bben is also) is that:
Other users that are less experienced need to know the risks involved before they "just turn it off".
Its no biggy to just install games to a different folder and not have the UAC interfering when you mod them, whilst allowing that same UAC to do its job and protect the rest of your software and private details and information.
The fact that the UAC was bugging you shows that it was actually doing the job that it was designed to do and protecting your pc, and after all, Windows 7 aint cheap to buy and seeing as I've coughed up the brass for it, I want all the benefits it has to offer, I think others would feel the same way.

But also allows every web site you visit to install whatever it likes on your pc and you dont get to know about it.

Didn't need to do any of that, just installed as I would have on XP and it worked no problems.
I'm running two rigs, one with Win 7 Ultimate and one with Win 7 Home Premium, no issues on either operating system.
Main thing to remember is not to install to the default location, create a folder somewhere called "My Games" and then sub folders inside it titled Fallout 3, Oblivion, DA Origins etc and install your games to the folders you created for them,
That gets you around the UAC interfering when you want to mod your games.

Well oh dearie me, you do seem ticked off.
Theres plenty of games out there I don't like / don't rate at all but never once have I felt the need to go to a site and post like you just have, much less a site full of dedicated supporters and folk that spend enormous amounts of time working to make the game better and share those benefits with everyone else, for free.
So it seems that you've posted this here in order to get a certain reaction, and we all know what thats called.

I've already had the "what the hell is that & where'd it come from" reaction but it looks usable and has no gimmicky flashy bits to distract you.
For those that will use it then its great, for those that don't want it, its no biggy to go and turn it off.
One suggestion I have is that it would be good (for me anyhoo) if it had an autohide ability, same sort of thing you can set your Windows taskbar to do.

Speaking of crud build up, I've just had to clean out a mates pc (he said it keeps shutting itself down, boohoo). It was that bad I felt like taking it down the car wash and jetwashing it, last time I saw that much cack was on the inside of a hoover bag.
Now its running fine but he looked at me like I was cuckoo when I told him to use a soft bristle brush to dislodge the muck and carefully hoover it out once in a while, anyhoo, he's happy.
Nice work on the laptop, last time I stripped one I spent quite a while swearing at it.

Just finished fitting a Coolermaster V8 CPU cooler in my gaming rig, looks like the engine block out of a Chevy squatting on my mobo, the 5870 doesn't look quite so huge now.

Hmm
Just had a google about and that turbo mode may be setting your cpu to run at a minimum 100% all the time, if your using a stock cpu cooler I doubt it will be up to the task of keeping an I7 cool at constant full belt.
Also, the temps your seeing in the bios aren't what your getting under load so your actual running temps maybe much higher than you think.
Try selecting a lower powerplan and run your games and see what happens.

Limping along with an 8800gtx superclocked. However my new computer is en route and should be here in a few days. It has 2 5870's so I am anxious to see what it can do.
Just a basic setup, as I am a realist when I spend money, what I want is not always what I buy.
Ooh, I'm running a single Sapphire 5870 at the mo, dunno whether to get a second one and crossfire or buy a 5970 instead (going for the 5970 means I can put the 5870 in my second rig).
Please post what you think of it when you've had a play, cheers.
