For those fans wise enough to be doing another playthrough after 9 years, here's something that worked for me. After a bunch of junk that didn't work @ vault 101, I fast traveled to Megaton, Went into my shack, brought up the console, prid 6a775 moveto player Dogmeat appeared, but immediately went outside. I went outside and he was there. I activated him and... I now have the best companion back. HTH.
