Actually, there seems to have been something very wrong. I re-installed a fresh skyrim from dvd, and now steam only wants to patch 3.2gb. (hd textures pack is probably included in that) Seems like it didn't recognize the previous installation for whatever reason, and wanted to dl the full game.

Taken from the mod page you linked: "After manually setting Automatic Updates to disable in Skyrim properties (the Update tab), verifying the game cache did not download any new files. The only bad thing is that the game was stuck in a state of Downloading Paused, which prevents you form playing the game until the download is finished. " That's exactly my problem and it doesn't seem that the mod can fix it.

Well, I can't say for certain that it is a patch, but it requires me to download 8gb before it will allow me to start skyrim.

I am fully aware that patching would be good, but as I said, my internet connection does not allow it in any reasonable amount of time, that's why I'm asking if there is a way around it.

The last time I played skyrim was in May of this year, with Skyrim Version 1.3.22 (Version number of the launcher file). As far as I can remember, I was able to play in offline mode and it did not force me to patch, since I set skyrim to "don't update" in steam. Now I'd like to play again, but when I try to start skyrim in offline mode, it says "This game can't be played in offline mode". When I am online in steam, it doesn't let me launch it either, instead it forces me to download an 8gb patch. My current internet connection does not allow me to dl an 8gb patch in any reasonable amount of time. What's up with that? An 8gb patch is bigger than my skyrim folder in steam. Any way I can launch skyrim without needing to dl the 8gb patch?

mine went offline after seeing that the last achievement is bugged in all non-english versions, stuck at 49/50 :/

Does not work with the only friendly dragons in the game :/

And I can't miss a hold by going through them in less than 10 minutes systematically. But it won't work. I even killed 3 people in each of the 9 main cities to be safe, and always watched if the 1000 bounty message appeared, which it did. So, I went to do a little research and only found discussion about the xbox360 achievement. Apparently, on the xbox version, you can see your bounty for each individual hold in your crime statistics. I only have "total bounty" (30000) and "highest bounty" (4000) on the pc version, totals for all cities combined. But the game still tracks them, so the achievement should trigger, what am I doing wrong?

I try to limit it just for very long distances, as you can run into so many things you haven't seen before if you walk.

Actually, with my first char, before I even learned anything about dark brotherhood, I found a small farm while exploring. The farmer told me that there was a very strange person on the road who had a broken wheel and can't go on. It even started a sidequest (not one of those small ones, a real sidequest with name!) and I went to the road to find Cicero with his wagon and a broken wheel. After some talking, I persuaded the farmer to help him. Some time later, I checked if the game was so awesome that he actually moved on after completing the quest, but he was still there (after at least 20 ingame days). tl:dr does not seem like a random encounter at all to me.

Don't know what your horses have about mountains. My horse can defy all physical laws and jump up walls with about 75° angle and magically float to the top.

Doesn't seem to be working on repeatable quest givers too, I married a no-dialogue char with my first char, now I try to do the same with Vex, no success.
