The only thing that I'm not entirely sure about is a crime system. Did you mean that you want the city to have its own city-specific system that isn't tied into the rest of Skyrim? That sounds a bit difficult. I'm sure it's do-able, but it would require technical scripting ability and knowledge of how the crime system works (from a scripting perspective). All the rest is easy to do simply building things and creating quests via the CK. The sheer scope of a whole city would be so vastly time-consuming I can't imagine why you'd want to, but it wouldn't be difficult by any means, just hellishly tedious.

As the subject line says: Is there any way to adjust the distance at which the game detects enemies and therefore won't let me sleep\wait? I'm finding this annoying as hell because 90% of the time, the "enemy" whose presence is holding my bedtime hostage is a rabbit or something. The game counts non-hostile wildlife as enemies when it makes the calculation on whether there's anything nearby. I looked for a mod to fix this but couldn't find one, and I'm wondering if there's a console command or setting in the ini that I can tweak.
Edit: Just to be clear, I'm not looking for a way to prevent non-hostiles from being considered enemies -- I just want a way to decrease the radius that the game looks at for enemies, so that the presence of a rabbit four cells away isn't stopping me from sleeping.

Oh. Great. I was happy too soon. It still keeps downloading from 94% at the speed of 3-6kb/s.
Seriously, does Steam always suck like this, or is it just today? One would say that I can go faster than 6kbs with 120mbs fiber.
Sorry for my harsh words, but having Skyrim availiable for 2+ hours and dealing with this just makes me want to explode.
Steam frequently does suck like this, yes. It may just be a temporary slowdown due to everybody downloading a huge game at once - I had similar issues the day Civilization V was released.

As the topic says: I'm looking for a copy of the Morrowind soundtrack CD that I can legally purchase. I haven't had any luck on eBay and as far as I know, the CD was only available if you bought the Collector's Edition copy of the game, which isn't for sale anymore. Anytime I do manage to find a copy it's priced at some insane amount over $50 US, and I can't afford that much just to get the CD. I already have the game and the expansions.
Does anyone know if the CD is available anywhere? Or is there anyone here who bought the Collector's Edition of Morrowind and would be willing to sell the CD? I realize you can buy the mp3s on DirectSong (and I have), but I really want the original physical CD itself with the cover art. Otherwise I'd just rip the mp3s myself.

... how is it possible I've been playing this game for two years and managed to NOT know that Dispel potions will remove a silence effect? That thudding sound you hear is me banging my head on my desk, repeatedly.

Absolutely beautiful, thanks for posting that. Even moreso because I'd had no idea there were so many fan renditions of the same music on Youtube. I just spent a good half an hour watching (listening, really) video after video.
IMHO the Morrowind theme is a gorgeous piece and by far my favorite of ANY video game theme - it comes close to being my favorite instrumental piece, period. For some reason I just find it very moving and emotional, though I couldn't explain why for the life of me. The Oblivion theme is a nice piece that I think evokes the spirit of the game as it was intended to, but it's just another theme for just another adventure. The Morrowind theme has this way of making me want to experience something epic.

Is there any such thing as a mod that slows down the plant respawns? I'm a realism\immersion player and it's always bugged me that I can sweep through an area and pick every single flower and mushroom in sight, then come back a few days later and find all the blossoms have magically regenerated. I don't even bother keeping the loot from dungeon crawling anymore; I make ten times the money just harvesting plants for alchemy. I already have my cell respawn set to 10 days; I'm afraid to set it higher because I've heard horror stories of savegame corruption due to bloating.
I'd really love a mod that stops the plants from being included when the cell respawns. In an ideal world, the plants would only respawn once every couple of months - maybe depending on the season. For instance, plants would respawn on the 1st day of April, again on the 1st day of May, the 1st day of June, then not again until the 1st day of September, and after that they wouldn't respawn again until the year cycled back to 1st of April. (I haven't memorized the in-game equivalents of the month names, but you know what I mean - most flowers produce new blossoms continually through the spring and partway through summer, then there are no new blossoms all winter until the next spring.)
Is there such a thing, or anything even remotely similar? And if not, would it be difficult to do? I'm willing to give it a shot in the CS if it's possible, but I haven't the first clue how to go about it. I'd be happy just to find a way to create a mod that stopped plants from respawning, period - if I could manage that, all I'd need to do is simply remove the mod on the in-game 1st day of the month when I wanted new flowers, then reactivate it to stop the respawning until I once again removed the mod after a month had passed in-game.

So basically, you want everything in the game from NPCs to weather to be completely overhauled, improved, gutted and rebuilt to be as immersive and realistic as possible. Okay. Tall order but with the mods available out there, you can get most of what it sounds like you want. The problem is with the 'under a dozen mods' part. To be blunt, you are going to need to seriously reevaluate what you want here. The sort of total overhaul you have in mind would require dozens and dozens of mods.

The reason there are so many mods that feature big breasts and half-naked clothing for women is precisely because the vast majority of modders are red-blooded males like you -- and that's why they create female characters who wear next to nothing and prance around Tamriel with bouncing H-cup tits. That's what lots of guys want to look at while playing the game.
There are a couple of modders who create clothing and armor for Manly Man characters. Take a look at anything from AlienSlof for starters, and there are others. Somewhere around here there's a list somebody compiled of mods featuring gear for male characters. If you're having trouble finding it, I'll see what I can track down, but do look around yourself first.

I've never been able to get that mod to work, either. After I installed BMS, I grabbed the music from Ambient Inns and stuck it into BMS's folder for inns. Voila!

I can't believe nobody's mentioned Arthmoor yet... granted, the original post did mention "the UL and BC Team" -- but I think he deserves special kudos for his own mods. Faregyl Village is amazing and keeps getting better with every release, and so do the other villages he's made -- Feldscar, Vergayun, Molapi, Frostcrag. Then we have RAEVWD without which my game wouldn't be worth playing. And thanks to Arthmoor I'm finally able to enjoy the famous Verona House, after the work he put into tracking down and stomping out quite a few bugs that were making it nearly unplayable. Not to mention his work on the UOP Supplementals and his revision of New Roads & Bridges, another of my personal Top 10 mods. I could go on...

Try Et in Arkay Ego. It's not precisely "real life" pagan, more lore-friendly Elder Scrolls pagan, but it is damn cool. And I think it'll be right up your alley.

Pop-in is going to happen regardless of the mods or textures you use. There is NO way to get rid of it, period. You can tweak the ini to increase the draw distance to the point where you wouldn't notice pop-in, but if you do that, the game will start sucking memory like a Hoover and you'll pretty much crash every 30 seconds even on the latest hardware. Oblivion wasn't designed to be able to use the computing capability that's out there today. Your computer may be a Ferrari but the game still only uses Kia power, and setting the draw distance high enough to eliminate pop-in can NOT be done on Kia power.
Pop-in is about my only big complaint left with this game. I've modded out everything else that was less than perfect. Normally it isn't too bad, but it gets noticable if you're in a flat grassy area and walking towards somewhere with trees, which happens frequently traveling the ring roads around the IC. All you can do is ignore it and remind yourself that this is still one of the best damn games on the market, despite its age.

I've used the same username - chaospearl - across the Internet for about fifteen years now. It's my username everywhere.
I originally chose it when I was fourteen years old because I was (still am) a fan of the roleplaying card game Magic: the Gathering, and my favorite card was called the Chaos Orb. I wanted that name on AOL, but it was already taken. So I picked ChaosPearl instead because a pearl is sort of an orb, but it sounds more feminine and prettier. I've been ChaosPearl everywhere ever since.

Are you using Reneer's Corpse Mod by any chance? There's a well-known "green film on corpse" bug associated with that mod. I don't know if it's the same thing since it sounds like your green stuff is showing up even before the actor dies, but you might want to check out some threads on that bug and see if it's in any way related.

I could swear I've heard of this same problem just very recently on these forums. Like within the past week or two. Let me go searching and I'll be back if I find the post.
Edit: Good to know my memory isn't failing me... yet. It was DeadlyPeanut who posted about the problem originally, but in a different thread. DP must have created two threads about the same issue, then updated and closed the other thread, but didn't close this one. Happily he or she was able to fix it, as detailed in the other thread about it: see thread
I think redeyesandlonghair must have necro'd this thread because you're having the same problem? Poor Claudia's getting unfairly blamed here - the mod that causes it is EDialog, not CLS or a sex mod. You can read about it in the thread I linked, as well as how to fix it.

I've been to whatever the one is in Florida 3 times in my life. It's alright, but I'm not really big on hanging around little kids (ahem) so it doesn't interest me too much.
LOL... and people look at me oddly for saying "Disney would be the absolute perfect place to live if not for all the damn kids."
The one in Florida is Disney World - and it's about five times the size of the one in Cali. If you didn't like Florida you probably wouldn't have liked Cali. Ah well... one less person in the line for Space Mountain! Honest truth is that Disney's not really THAT great if you're judging it on the basis of the theme park rides and whatever else you expect to do there. I know a lot of people who prefer the million and one Six Flags Great Adventure parks that are all over the place, mostly because the biggest area Disney lacks in is thrill rides. People who are true Disney nuts (that would be me) love it because we were entranced by the magic the first time and now the whole place is covered in pixie dust, for us. We'll go to the same parks and ride the same rides, see the same shows, dozens and dozens of times and never get tired of it. I have been known to spend full days at the Magic Kingdom and never actually get in line for a single attraction, and consider it time well spent. Just walking through the gates makes me happy. I stopped questioning it years ago.

I can't believe you made all that time and mileage across California and didn't go to Disneyland. Hmph.
And I don't even wanna hear anything about Disney being a fake \ greedy \ overpriced \ corporate \ whatever else people say about it... it may be all those things, but it's my favorite place in the entire world and YOU DON'T DIS THE MOUSE!
Then again, although I spend several thousand $ every year making an annual pilgrimage to Disney World on my birthday, I ashamedly admit I've never been to the original in Cali. I'm always afraid I'd be disappointed.

Yeah, it is definitely a buggy file. I don't know the nature of the bug, but there's something wrong with it. Even if you can open it in Photoshop, the fact that Gimp immediately crashes when I try to open it tells me that in some way, some how, some form, that file has an error. Or at least, there is something about it that's non-standard, if not precisely "wrong". All the other dds files from the same download (Nec Dark Elf Remake) open just fine, as does the face dds from the High Elf Remake. It's only that one file, the Dark Elf face, that makes Gimp crash. I'm no kind of digital artist so I couldn't tell you what makes it different from the others, but if you can figure out what the difference is, you're well on your way to fixing it.
-
Edited to delete all the other suggestions that weren't going to work.
I just tried to open the Nec Dark Elf Face file in GIMP, and the dds plug-in completely crashed. My end conclusion is that there is something wrong with that file. The file itself, not anything else. I just downloaded it 5 minutes ago, a completely fresh copy, and it won't even open in any program I try. The High Elf face has no problems opening.

Try adding a {{BASH:Scripts}} tag to the DLT esp. The mod adds scripts to torches and for whatever reason it doesn't always work. I suspect sometimes it's overriden by either dirty edits in mods, or a mod that you just didn't realize touches torches. In any case, adding the tag worked for me. It will ensure that the torch script comes along into your bashed patch, which is loaded last, so the torches will always be properly scripted.

It has to do with the fact that the program is looking for an entry in your registry that isn't in there. To quote myself (from last time this came up):
It's because Gecko is looking for a specific registry entry and Windows x64 systems have the entry tucked behind another key instead of where it ought to be. You have to manually add another entry where Gecko expects it to be.
Open your registry with RegEdit. Just do it, it isn't that scary.
Find this folder up at the top: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE] and click on it to open it up. More folders will be inside. Find the one that says SOFTWARE and open that. Now inside that find Bethesda Softworks, then Oblivion.
If you don't have those entries, you'll have to create them. Do that by right clicking whichever folder is supposed to contain the entry but doesn't, and pick New > Key. (A key is a folder, essentially.) Type in the name of the key you need to create.
For instance, inside the SOFTWARE folder there should be a Bethesda Softworks folder - if it isn't in there, right-click SOFTWARE and create a new key called Bethesda Softworks. Then right-click the key you just created, Bethesda Softworks, and create another key inside it called Oblivion.
When you get down to the Oblivion key, you need to right-click and choose to create a new String Value. Call it "Installed Path" without the quotes. Now right-click the thing you just created and modify the value, which should be this:
"C:\Folder\Folder" where Folder is the name of wherever you installed the game. For instance, mine says C:\Games\Oblivion.
Here's a screen of what it should look like when you've done it right:

Is there a way to use TES4Files to find unreferenced files in the Data folder without needing to "export" every mod you currently use and then check to see which files aren't needed? I'm a newbie to using the program, but I can't figure out how to use it for this purpose. I'm thinking there's probably an easy way to do it and I'm just not seeing it because I'm looking for a complicated way.
I just want to be able to look through my entire Data folder and pinpoint which meshes\textures\audio aren't being used by any mods, so I can get rid of those. I know there must be tons of those leftovers from mods that I installed manually and later removed. I usually try to remove all the mod's associated files when I uninstall it, but sometimes it's late and I'm frustrated and tired and just don't feel like looking through the readme's list of a hundred individual files and then hunting down each one to delete it.

Just keep in mind that if you plan on using a lot of mods, you are going to want BOSS at some point. And BOSS works by sorting your mods into the correct order based on the names their authors gave them. In other words, if you have or ever will have a lot of mods, it's better not to rename the esps.
You can customize your BOSS list to use whatever new names you give the esps, so not all is lost, it's just an aggravating amount of work. Something to know about before you decide if renaming an esp is worth it for you.

Are there normally lanterns on the main roads?
