It's the "Checking for new client version..." bit. It looks like the website used to host NMM is out of order - so when it checks for the latest version it gets a 404 error (or whatever) and that makes it crash. :-( I don't think its possible to turn off checking for new client version. But I would appreciate it if someone could check if that _is_ possible - and maybe put up NMM at a mirror somewhere.

Alchemy ingredients are too cheap - if you're in the mood you can just buy ingredients, throw basic potions together, then sell. Repeat at each town you've visited and your speech, and alchemy skills go up pretty fast. That's not so bad, but your money also goes up _real_ fast. Why is the alchemist selling you a bunch of ingredients for a few gold each when they could be selling you the potion they make for a couple of hundred? So, yeah, I think that alchemy ingredients should have their price put up by 300% or more. It would also be nice if common alchemy ingredients were available in much greater numbers in the shops. If they have, say, two thistle branches and three cloves of garlic that isn't really impressive. Difficult stuff like Vampire Ash or Daedra Hearts should be less easy to get hold of, but the basics should be readily available.

My first thought was that you're imagining things, but I checked and you're half right. Yatul and Bolar are only ever referred to as Aunts. So we can't know for certain either way. Maybe Bethesda did that deliberately to keep Skyrim at '13+' ;-) Ha, ha. Well, here's everything I found out with my Khajiit (I'm working on the unofficial translation to Japanese, so I've got the dialogue noted down). This is what Urog, his daughter, has to say. * My brother keeps trying to spin these fantasies to me about my aunts and our father. He's crazy. * Sometimes I wonder if my aunts are right about my father -- he does seem weak. * Yatul's been teaching me to hunt. I'm still learning, but she's the best teacher I could have. This is what Dushmamub, his son, says. * Haven't you seen how my aunts act with my father? It's beyond strange. * I never knew my mother, but I doubt even she acted as affectionate with my father as Yatul and Bolar do. * My sister is blind. I've told her she shouldn't spend so much time with Yatul, but she won't listen. Thinks she's nice. Chief Mauhulakh himself doesn't have much to say, except to bemoan his lack of wives. * The blessings of the mine have been many, but I have no mate to share them. * Been married many times, but the gods keep taking them from me. Then there's Yatul. * Mauhulakh. He wants to be a leader but spends too much time moping over women. Bolar and I should be all he needs. * Orc chiefs should be strong and stand alone. They need no companions. Progeny is a poor excuse. * I know I sound abrasive. It's just that I love Mauhulakh so much that I want us to be happy together. It gets more confusing with Bolar. * I've read the entrails many times, but can't fathom why Mauhulakh's wives keep finding tragedy. * Urog and Dushnamub were such lovely children. I held them as they watched their mothers die after birth. They know me best, now. * Mauhulakh was such a darling boy. Until he got older and started having opinions. So, either Yatul and Bolar are Mauhulakh's older sisters (or sister-in-laws) or they are actually Mauhulakh's aunts, and Dushmamub and Urog's great-aunts.

Have you been up to Narzulbur and chatted with the orcs there? What's your opinion on the hot orc gossip of the season?

Er, then why not put them up by more than that? A percentage increase might work better. If you get fined an additional +30% each time you are caught pickpocketing then by the 20th time you are caught the fine would be over 4,700. It should probably be capped, though, as a fine of 900,000 for the 40th time you're caught is a bit much. ;-) A reputation system would be interesting, probably quite difficult to implement well though.
-
Simple concept. I find it silly that you get the same fine (25 gold) the first time you are caught, and the 100th time you are caught. If fines increased significantly each time you get caught it would be more realistic, players would take more care in pickpocketing, and pickpocket might not be the easiest skill to get to 100.
-
Yeah, I got those. The first time around I did that quest I pick-pocketed the guy so I thought that was the problem. But when I retried it there wasn't any difference. [EDIT] Fixed! I created the quest reward item and spoke to Wilhelm again and suddenly the conversation choice came up. :-/
-
So I've got the item[1] from the Shroud Hearth Barrow that I need to give to Wilhelm to proceed with the quest, but he doesn't want to know about it. There is no conversation option to let him know what I've found. Is there some console command I can give to make him get his act together? Otherwise I guess I'll just have to create the quest reward item[2] I need from Wilhelm. Anybody else have this problem?
-
Hmm, not really. The problem is that to turn a decent amount I need to go 'drag mouse, lift mouse, move mouse back, drop mouse, drag mouse'. I could change the mouse sensitivity, but then I'd be overshooting on the finer actions all the time.
-
Simple idea - maybe not so simple to implement? I'm fed up with struggling to turn my character around quickly with the mouse. I'd like a couple of keys mapped to 'turn left 90 degrees' 'turn right 90 degrees'. (I'd probably use z and c myself, although you'd need to re-map the original action associated with 'c' to something else). It would be nice if the character would actually turn, not just the view point. Either would be better than nothing, though.

I came across this mod Skyrim Character Editor, which looks pretty good, but it only does half the job I'd like to do. The character editor creates a console bat file that _writes_ new values for vital attributes, perks, skills, etc. What I want to do as well is _read_ the current values for a character (output to console log, or whatever). You see I'd like to be able to restart Skyrim with an existing character - or at least a new character with the same level/skills/stats as the old one. I want to redo the early bits of the game while taking notes and I don't want to cheat, or waste the experience I've gained so far. Is anyone interested in taking on that challenge, or do you have any advice for me if I try to work out how to do it myself?

LE Triss armor: Allowed or not?
ptbptb replied to luddemann's topic in Skyrim's Creation Kit and Modders
I personally reported it. I know that the PMs were received, because I got replies. [EDIT] It's a long time ago, so I don't have those PMs now. The 'older (popular)' mod was, IIRC, the sexlivion / sexdarkness mods that use audio taken from a commercial adult game. The new mod was one I initially included in my list of Japanese Oblivion mods, but took down the link after seeking clarification on Nexus policy. -
LE Triss armor: Allowed or not?

Yeah, I don't particularly want to annoy those in authority here, but Nexus policy does get bent on occasion. I know of at least one case where a new mod including illicitly copied copyright material was (naturally) disallowed, but the exact same material in an older (very popular) mod did not result in that older mod being taken down. -
Thanks for 'Circles be Gone' that looks like a good start. As for the markers, I see you can set them to only show in explored areas, but I don't see how you can turn them off entirely. If I'd wanted achievements I'd have played Achievement Unlocked again. (Actually it's a lot of fun). Surely the grim realities don't come under dark fantasy. :P
-
New to DA, very late arriver. ;-) In a word - depressing. I think the makers didn't get that people (or at least me) want a little escapism in their fantasy games. I didn't particularly want to be faced with the grim realities of occupied territories in a sexist pseudo-medieval world. :-( (I took the city-elf start-up first, can you tell?) As far as the gameplay goes, I've never played World of Warcraft but if felt a lot like how I imagine that might be. I might get used to it, but the initial impression sucked. The "Achievement!" pop-ups distract from the role-play element and I find it weird that you can be at death's door at one moment then bouncing back to full health after a few seconds wait. There's little room for subtlety with the obvious markers on important places, the massive red circles and arrows indicating enemies and such. After Oblivion it was a big culture shock. Maybe I'll be back in six months saying how much I like it now. Who knows. :-/

That was it. Pretty obvious in retrospect, I suppose. If you have a 'Petite Elf' body then you need 'Petite Elf' hands and legs. D'oh! I only have one other mod installed now - and that's the DLC Transfer To Awakening Patch.
-
I'm playing an elf character (I'm new to Dragon Age) and the problem is that the feet are not to the same scale as the rest of the body. If I wear something that includes shoes as well as the main clothing it works fine. If boots / shoes / bare feet aren't covered up by the clothing then they are (I guess) 'human standard' size. Any suggestions as to where to start?

What the title says. While checking out the new mod Less Severe Nathaniel I noticed that there is no 'Companion - Nathaniel' option in the tags.

So I'm in the Caldera mage guild, I buy 5 Alit hides, then sell them back, suddenly ... "That Alit hide is mine!" "Die Scum!" "Your crime has been reported" "Your crime has been reported" ... o_O; Well, duh, it _was_ his - until he sold it to me. Anyone come across this bug before? [EDIT] OK, so reading the wiki it seems that if I ever stole any alit hide from the merchant then _all_ alit hide I have, for all time, will be marked as 'stolen' from him. Even if I had none in my inventory before I bought it from him. :-( Anyone know a way to mark these items as _not_ stolen?

I've got the Unofficial Morrowind Patch 1.65b and the Morrowind Code Patch installed, and it doesn't seem to be helping. [EDIT] It appears that uninstalling, then reinstalling, the Morrowind Code Patch fixed the problem. I can only assume a) there was some problem with the initial installation or b) one of the other utilities / plugins I installed had interfered with the Code Patch installation.

There's a known bug with alchemy where it keeps prompting "You need to type in a name", even if a name is displayed for the potion. Unfortunately the only workaround I've seen is not very effective at all. Has anybody else come across this and got a better solution?

If this is a common problem, maybe it would be practical to allow people to pay for extra inbox space only for less than the normal premium membership. I, personally, am currently unemployed after a long period of illness otherwise I'd be quite happy to pay for premium membership myself.
-
That would come under the category ... "Give a warning when you send a PM to a member who hasn't locked in for a long time." However in this particular case Strategy Master commented in a thread on 4 January 2010 so I know he logged in at least that recently.
-
I've (again) been having trouble getting in contact with a TESnexus member because their inbox is full. To make inbox management simpler I suggest that when you log in with a full inbox a warning message pops up. Optionally: - Include "Don't show this again [ ]" checkbox - Include "Click here to empty inbox" link - Include "Click here to remove oldest messages" link - Automatically clear old messages from members who don't log in for a long time. - Give a warning when you send a PM to a member who hasn't locked in for a long time. Being able to get hold of a mod's creator is often vital for people who want permission to further develop it, use it for modder resources, or translate it into foreign languages, so please consider this change.
