The other thought that went along with this which I failed to put into words was just smelting 2 metals together to form a new material that did whatever effect... ie. silver ore and ebony ore would be add x% damage to undead and x% total damage.. Quicksivler and Orcmetal - a material that would make weapons swing faster and would be armor pericing - etc. etc. - . not sure which method would work better within the scope of the game.

I've been thinking an idea around in my head for a few days now... and finally decided to "put it out there" as it were. Not sure if this is possible, I know nothing about moding, I'm old, and I thought Dos was cool.
Cleaned up version of the idea... (sorry was about 4 AM when I posted this originally)
Concept would be smithing 2 metals together for a disired effect.
10 materials (ores) that can be smelted as far as I know.
Corundum
Steel
Iron
Silver
Dwarven Metal
Ebony
Gold
Orichalcum
Quicksilver
Moonstone
So figure an effect for each base material.
say +2% to 5% for the effect of whatever base material - then smelt them together for material that does x% disired effect and x% second disired effect. Name new materials things like Quickstone, Orichgold, Silversteel, and such -
would try to have related effects for armor and weapons - say Orichalcum as a weapon would ignore 5% of a targets armor, as armor would give 2% damage reduction - Quicksilver weapons attack 5% faster, armor increase movement speed and stealth 2% etc.
Implementation...
My thinking would be a quest item "blacksmith's box" or something - which the 2 materials would be put in and then use Transmutation spell to bind them into a new material ... maybe make a second quest for a box that could mix 3 types of ore together.
(sorry for the scatterbrain of havoc first time around).
2 Cents worth...
peace guys!

That was a awesome game. I spent many an hour playing it on my brand new smoken 286 with a 40 meg hard drive and 14.4 Hst Modem. Yeah, I'm older then old dirt, but seriously if you have never played it the content and puzzles are great (espeically given the time period it was made) Nothing like ripping a clip at a bot in Las Vegas! Or drowning down the rivers to build your swimming skill only to be eaten by a pack of radiated dogs or scorpians. Wow, I'm getting all misty eyed. A lot of the content from that game made it into the later ones. (fallout 1-2-3) I can't remember if Harold was in Wasteland. Anyhow, thanks for the nostagia.

There is a way to stop vampire attacks in Whiterun - if you wonder up to the big swimming pool near the Jarls house - in the water under the bridge or there abouts is a set of vampire bones. If you pull the bones completely out of the water and move them into the sun light - the vampire attacks in Whiterun stop. Not sure if it is part of the quest at the eastern tower - the merry man who is transporting his dead mother or not. But I know this works. I have had the bones reappear after I let cicero (the merry man) go on his way. Hope this helps.
