  1. Yours looks even bigger than mine! Someone watching me build it and b&@*$ was like, why can't you ever do something simple? Because I can't! So the good news is the teleporting is NOT caused by the AI pathfinding as I thought. It isn't the same as when NPCs teleport bc Brahmin are blocking doors etc. No, it is the powered door. I assume when it is open the collision is supposed to be such that when they try to walk through they can, but when the door closes the collision should update so they can't. But it must be stuck on the open collision. I watched 3 ghouls casually stroll right through the closed power door as though the door wasn't there. So that's good news since someone can probably fix it. As of now the only way to do it is to build your arena with no doors. I tried today and the teleporting didn't occur once there were no power doors. The other GREAT news is that a modder is working on a fix for the settlers shooting! He's gonna make a version of the beta wave machine that makes the settlers calm down and stop shooting. So yay! :) The moral of the wasteland workshop DLC is never ever buy a Bethesda game unless it's on pc...
  2. Ok, I tried it. Disarmed all settlers and also disconnected the power doors from power. So settlers couldn't be using the switches to open them. I saw enemies teleport OUTSIDE the arena again, and watched my unarmed settlers teleport down into the arena next to fallen gunners and pick up their weapons. So it's totally broken. Due to the way NPCs teleport around because of the bad AI pathfinding, it just will never work. I thought maybe I could attach something to the quittin' time siren that causes the settlers to be non-hostile in FO4Edit, then just give the enemies melee weapons. But that will not make this work either because the gunners will just teleport to my settlers in order to make the attack. It seems like Bethesda couldn't do it either and that is why the device that makes animals peaceful doesn't work on gunners, raiders or mutants. I'm guessing it has something to do with the faction assignment. I don't think even mods can fix this, and if so, it is way beyond anything I could figure out on my own. What a disappointment! It took me two days of trying to get it to work with my mods, and several days of building just to find out it's totally broken. :verymad:
  3. Boy, I agree wholeheartedly. I'm not playing the survival mode until I have console commands and save function. This week so far, I've had a bug where my food and drink stands disappeared (vanilla bug, fast travel only way to fix it), had to rebuilt 3 hours worth of work, and now have to rebuilt some more because I have acquired a bug where I cannot command Curie at all anymore. Also, my game has frozen during dialogue several times despite my fast computer. And what about those mods that add things to the game, but you have to use console commands to get the items? I'll just wait. I'm really mad about this DLC. I think I will give it a try once more, this time disarming my settlers first. If they still teleport around and attack unarmed....at what point is this just false advertising? Good grief.
  4. I don't know. People like things that feel real in video games. I think you'll find a sizeable audience. I'll certainly try it, but then I love sarcastic assholes! But you didn't say, are they going to be romanceable? I really enjoyed a companion mod in Skyrim for a healer guy with a ton of awesome dialogue and he was romanceable in a much more organic way. I'm wanting to make some mods for the existing companions that make them feel more real. I had a similar thought about them needing to go off on their own sometimes. Existing companions are kind of limited by dialogue, but I thought maybe I could have you wake up from sleeping and find a note. I wanted some of those notes to be quest starters. Like one I was thinking of was you wake up one day to find a note from Cait that she has gone to help an old friend of hers from her fighting days. And then you go off to help her. It's just a matter of whether I can learn to use the GECK well enough to make what I want to make. Because what I want to make is an underground fighting arena, where you have to actually fight and win against increasingly difficult opponents. So you fight for your freedom and you win but then they want to keep all three of you as fighters instead of letting you go as agreed on. Then you, Cait and her friend just murder your way out of tons of Raiders. I have outlines written for about half the companions, some quests being harder than others to make. All quests are meant to focus on issues the companions have (psychologically) to give them more depth. It might take me a long time given that I only made the simplest of companion tweaks for Skyrim. But anyway, your mod sounds great and this is why I'm most excited about companion mods when the GECK gets here!
  5. Thank you! I'm almost done romancing Curie and I've been pretty unhappy about the tone. You really hit the nail on the head there. Some writer at Bethesda must have had a loli fetish, because there is no reason for her to act like a child or young teen. She's 200 years old, and she had human relationships with meaning and loss. I thought her accent was so sexy and I was so disappointed with her bambi routine. I imagine it is worse if you are playing as the male sole survivor. The female voice actress has done a good job of keeping my flirting lines lighthearted and minimizing creep factor. But considering Curie does not seem to want a relationship at all at several points, and makes clear she wishes you would stop...it still has soured me on spending much time with Curie. That and her total inability to hit the broad side of a barn. Are you a blind robot?! The things is, I was already annoyed at power imbalances with other companions. You are Preston's commanding officer AND he tells you several times he's suicidal. Cait is all kinds of wrong, with her background as a sexual assault victim and she's also suicidal (glad she doesn't give consent till after she is sober at least). Maccready is my favorite companion, because he nails those headshots, because I love his voice acting and because I gave him a sexy makeover...but I'm his boss. He's in a desperate situation, and he even gives me back the money I paid him. So now he's working for me for free, indefinitely. And he's only 22 so huge age difference! But I usually just 'fix' it in my mind. Like pretending Maccready is like 26 and that we had a talk where we decided to travel together as friends and not as a business arrangement. I'm willing to gloss over this stuff because this problem is not unique to fallout 4. Companions are the natural choice for romance options, but we also have to have authority over them as the player. There is a problem inherent in the mechanic but it would at least help if they avoided these setups and really avoided dialogue like Curie's. I'm glad that Piper, Hancock and Danse all have a better power dynamic, but that leaves more than half the romance options as being problematic. Curie, though, is on a whole other level of messed up. Also, I'm with you that we need more dialogue with romance options period. Or more side quests to help them deal with their own problems. Preferably both! And I really wish people would initiate romance with me. I hate always having to initiate it first. Ideally I could then respond favorably, or reject them, or manipulate them for my own ends. You know like that guy that was working for Tenpenny? I had just taken the black widow perk when I met him in Megaton, and it was pretty cool to play him like that! Really looking forward to what the modding community does with romance and companions now that the GECK is almost here.
  6. Why not try assigning them, then sit in a chair and wait for 1 hr? Won't they teleport then? Hoping someone can help with my DLC issues. I tried my arena today and I'm pretty perplexed. 1) I waited for days and the last few cages would not fill up. Is there a limit? I was trying to fill 10 medium cages and one large. The large and 2 medium just wouldn't fill no matter how long I slept. 2) Anyone had trouble with teleporting enemies? Or settlers? One of the ghouls teleported outside the arena. I guess, that is where I found his body. Also, Lucy teleported directly into the arena and so did my doctor and Curie. Right into a 3 way fight bewteen gunners raiders and ghouls, 2 charred. The doctor then fell through the trap door...can settlers open switched power doors? They were closed when I got to the other side, but that is the only other possibility besides teleporting. 3)My settlers started shooting at the 'contestants'. What?! The relax siren was on and they were all chillin in the stadium seats and at the bar. The instant I opened the cages, all hell broke loose. The enemies were still in a sealed room, made with the new concrete walls. Both the enemies and the settlers shot right through the walls. All enemies were killed by the settlers I'm pretty sure except maybe one raider who was killed by a ghoul. Most of them died in the sealed room without even making it into the arena proper, with the settlers shooting them through solid concrete. Is this how it is supposed to work? Because that is stupid. How can matches work right if my 25 armed to the teeth settlers are also shooting them? Any way to fix this in FO4EDIT? No idea how to make the settlers non-hostile to these guys. Also pretty bummed bc I spent days building this and I was hoping for the settlers to cheer and stuff. Thanks for any advice.
  7. I know right? For me it was Brynjolf. That accent! I had to use mods to add him to my harem. Jeffglobal, you gave me a good laugh! Romance as a concept didn't exist before 800 years ago?! Homer would disagree. Read any ancient mythology from almost any culture. It's not new. But it also doesn't matter here, as 'romance' is being used a euphemism for screw. Bethesda seemed to think it was wrong of us to want to romance anyone so soon after our spouse died (ignoring that some people never wanted that narrative). Preston gets kinda judgy in your final romance talk and basically asks how you can possibly want a relationship when your husband *just* died. I feel like in Fallout 4 they wanted more of a taking refuge from a harsh world with a lover vibe, more than a romance vibe. I don't care much, since I always collect every single lover anyway. But I'm looking forward to a modder adding in a marriage system like Skryim had. It just adds more depth to the game. I don't know what will be done about the lack of marriage dialogue but I'm sure someone will figure something out. Either reusing old lines or even splicing new ones. And the other day Deacon had this idle line, where he says "I'm getting tired of waiting" in a way that was positively smoldering. Whoever makes a romanceable Deacon mod, be sure to use that line, it was very sexy!
  8. THIS, so much this. Even if this game didn't force you to play a good character (compared to 3 and NV) I always choose to. I was always wasteland Jesus. I'm not gonna feed my settlers to deathclaws. So I'm just building an arena with a pit in the center, and it has a wire mesh floor with trap doors several floors up. On that level I have a red powered door on one side and a blue powered door on the other. There is a holding area behind that with gunner cages on one side, and raider cages on the other. Pull one lever and the cages open up so you have a sealed room full of raiders on one side, gunners on other. Pull the other levers and the doors open letting them out into the arena. Hopefully, they will rush out or wander out and attach each other. If any fall through the trapdoors, there are deathclaws etc below. I think this will work, but it's taking so long to get everything set up I can't say for sure yet. Mostly, I'm hoping modders will do cool stuff with this DLC. It seems like the new stuff has a lot of potential to be used creatively. But yeah, I agree this DLC being pretty much only for evil characters when the game is pretty much only for good characters...is odd.
  9. I agree with you OP, and it bugs me too. My grandmother grew up in a shanty shack. Literally. She was the cleanest person you've ever met despite living in some horrid conditions and literally starving. I know people would still sweep, bury the corpses, and use milk paint like in the old days. It would be imperative if you wanted to keep from getting sick, which is even more important in Fallout. In the same vein, the clothes bug me. I see people say things like they don't have clothing factories, etc. Industrial clothing making processes are only about 175 years old. For most of human history we used natural fabrics and tailors or seamstresses made beautiful clothing. I love to look at photos of clothing in museums and plenty of 200 or even 400 year old garments survived. They were better made than today's clothes and many are works of art. So yeah, Ann Hargraves would be making you some epic outfits. None of this held together with spit and staples nonsense. But in the end, we know why they did it that way. It just fit the games art direction. Just like it fits Mad Max, etc. The difference is that I only spend 2 hrs with Mad Max. With Fallout I spend hundreds of hours and I am 'in' that world, trying to build an empire. So it annoys me too, but I can't fault Bethesda for it. I'd rather start with a game that fits their artistic vision and then mod in whatever I want.
  10. Deacon! I like his sarcastic sense of humor and he kinda reminds me of Archer for some reason. His cadence maybe. Plus he has that tragic backstory that makes you want to help him. I expect someone will make a mod for this right away when the GECK hits and if not I will figure it out myself. I've already decided to give Deacon Friffy's less hair body, Maccready the medium hair body from Man Fur, and Danse the really hairy wasteland lumberjack body. Then I will have a full set
  11. So, I'm a little irritated. I started building a big arena at Abernathy, in the front. I put a bunch of cages in the back, because I assumed if I put them IN the arena the animals or enemies could not get to them. After catching a few things, I realized that a) they just spawn in so it doesn't matter and b) you can't move a cage that is occupied. I tried picking up the cage and the generator, nope. So I'm like, ok, learning curve and all. So I see the beta machine and it says they won't be hostile to me OR my settlers. Great! I let out a Rabid Yao Guai and charred ghoul and they seem peaceful. My settlers seem cool. Awesome. I go waaaaay around to the front and continue building for several hours. I encounter a bug and need to fast travel away but I think to myself, maybe I better check on that Yao Guai. So I find Maise the cat DEAD, and then Clarabelle DEAD in her pen and the charred ghoul ripped to pieces. The Yao Guai is standing there looking guilty in the house. Jesus I wish the damn pop up box had mentioned they will still kill your animals! I'm pretty sure it didn't. So I don't want to lose all those hours of building, but no way am I going to leave Maise and Clarabelle dead. I tried resurrect and that 'worked' on both in that they popped up. But they did not move. Looked like statues. So I tried disable and reenable. Maise seems to be normal now, she is engaging in animations like eating and laying down. Clarabelle though is standing still except her heads will track movement. But her legs stay still, her tail stays still and her mouth doesn't move when she moos. Does anyone have any more suggestions in the way of console commands? Or even something I can do in FO4Edit, if you can tell me how to do it. Thanks!
  12. Does anyone know if Shadowplay or Nvidia drivers in general can cause CTD with Fallout 4 specifically? My game was playing fine yesterday and now it crashes to desktop when I enter combat. If I can snipe the enemies from a distance it seems to get around the issue. Also, the first combat encounter that caused CTD (repeatedly) involved a mutant hound that was having messed up animations. It was kinda moonwalking around...on its head. Sniping him allowed to me to get past that combat zone, but it keeps happening each time I enter combat with more than one enemy. The other combat zone was gunners attacking Finch Farm, and it was mostly too chaotic for me to see if any odd animations were happening. But I did think I saw a gunner down on the ground, as though incapped. Usually only settlers go down that way. I ask if this can be caused by Shadowplay bc I installed it today before launching the game. I see that some people are having issues with the latest Nvidia driver in general, so I rolled back my driver. Still happening. I tried running the game with Shadowplay turned off, and it made it through combat (it crashed at that point two times prior) but after combat was over, it CTD again. Or, has anyone had this issue with the latest patch by Beth? I see where people are having issues in workshop mode since the patch, but my workshop mode is working fine. I do not have any mods that affect combat at all. But, I do have mods that affect armor so might that be an issue? I can't think of any mods I have that would affect animations either. I mostly just do clothes mods and settlement mods. Oh, yeah, and my framerate was stable at the time of the crashes, and there was no error message. Just black screen, then desktop. The only other thing was that my controller began vibrating and it stuck that way after the game was crashed. Had to unplug it to get it to stop. Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it. Probably tomorrow I will start going through my mods looking for a problem, but I really suspect it is an Nvidia thing since turning off Shadowplay at least helped. Thanks!
  13. That's great to hear, I'm glad you think it will get better over time. I wasn't doing pc gaming during the roll out for 7 or 8 so I have nothing to compare it to. I might not think the voice commands are worth the camera in my home, but I'll tell you what I do think is worth it. VR. I know it's no holodeck yet, but it's getting there (eventually) and I want to have VR bad enough I'm willing to use a camera set up to do it. I know some games are going to require you to have a kinect like set up for tracking movement. We are hoping to have a separate game room after we move so I guess I can just close the door or unplug it! Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to share your knowledge. :)
  14. Wow, thanks so much for elaborating. I really, really should have asked for advice here before buying the new computer. My partner works in IT, but he doesn't deal so much with the personal computer side of things. He works with large scale infrastructure, at a huge company. So he asked for help from a friend who does pc builds for his own gaming. With his help, we used pc part picker to build a machine. On that build, I had picked the Haswell, pretty sure 4770. I also had chosen a less expensive graphics card, too. The reason we bought this pc was because it was a better price. This pc came with more memory than we could afford to build it with, and the newer 980ti. Plus it was supposed to be ready out of the box ( a month later still troubleshooting). So it seemed to me to be cheaper to purchase this one, rather than one we had to build that would need upgrades later to be as good. I'm a console gamer mostly. I got Skyrim on pc and thanks to nexus and Gopher's excellent hand-holding, I was able to run a game with almost 200 mods, no problem. On a gaming laptop. I kind of got addicted to modding my game, just a wee bit. From now on, I intend to buy every beth game, every open world rpg, every xcom. on pc so I can mod it. But I'm not the kind of person who needs the best of pc gaming. I AM the kind of person who hates buying electronics and tries to buy them to last. I've bought exactly 3 computers (counting these two) in 10 years. I also intend to buy an occulus rift in a year or two, so I bought a pc with specs that could handle it. My whole plan here was to buy a pc that would last as many years as possible. And that's my concern with Windows 10. I'm worried that within the next 2 years, all or most triple A titles will require 10 to run. That's the pattern here, Microsoft forcing other companies to dance to whatever tune they say. So I'm afraid to buy a gaming pc without 10 for fear I will just have to replace it, at great cost, in 2 years tops. Maybe even 1. So what do you think about that? How soon do you think games will require 10 to run? If I had only gotten the other one, I could have just put Windows 7 on for now and had the option to add 10 later if I was forced to. But you are saying if I put 7 on this machine, next year I will be forced to upgrade to 10? How are they going to do that? Are they going to stop doing updates for my machine until I 'upgrade' to 10? I'm going to look into that wine. My partner is familiar with it. As for apple, I do like their OS. I switched from an i-phone to an android phone so I could run old NES and SNES emulators on my phone. But after this Windows 10 debacle, I'm going back to an i-phone. I use my phone for a lot of private things, including purchasing online, and I need to be able to trust whoever is behind the operating system. I have a friend who has a mac, I'll ask to take a look at hers, and I'll keep this in mind as a potential solution. But my worries about linux or the the like are similar. I always see threads where poor mac or linux users are begging for ports of the biggest titles. I've always felt like you have to be the type of person who plays mostly indie games or who is really flexible about playing whatever is available to you. Is it still that way, or have ports gotten more common? Plus, the last I heard, occulus wasn't even developing for Mac or linux at all. I was talking about the kinect spying on the Xbox One. The reason we know about the extent of the spying that was planned, is because someone directed the public to the patents MS had filed in regards to it. The kinect was going to have built in facial recognition software and it was going to be recording audio and visual in your home, all the time. It was to be built in to the Xbox One, and it wasn't going to have any off switch, or even a way to tell if it was on or not (no light, etc). It was even going to be recording you when the Xbox was off. The idea was to record you while you were playing games or (esp) watching movies or TV. Then it had some kind of software for reading facial expressions that would allow it to target ads to you based on your frame of mind. So if you were watching a movie with your girlfriend and making aroused type faces, it would transmit that data and allow 3rd party advertisers to target you with condom ads. Or if you were crying, you'd see ads for Paxil. So it was not so much about MS wanting to spy on you for nefarious reasons, per se, but rather that they wanted to spy on you for the purpose of selling that data to ad firms. Without your knowledge or consent. And we all know how long it would take for. as you put it, malicious actors, to take advantage of that info. That's not to speak of the government, which is already attempting to force tech companies to build in back doors for spying on citizens in all kind of devices. There was a huge backlash over this info (along with DRM and always online issues), and MS lost a ton of sales over it. They eventually realized it wasn't going to fly, and they changed the Xbox One so the kinect wasn't bundled inside. It was too little too late in terms of damaged trust though. Despite lower prices, Xbox sales still haven't caught up to PS4 sales (last I heard). And yes, that is even with PSN having a bad track record with being hacked. I'm pretty concerned about it. So far, I've just avoided tying a debit card to my PSN account. I use things that have at least some kind of extra protection. But consumer trust is still higher with sony because they failed due to ineptitude rather than blatantly lying to their consumers (at least on the playstation front). I'm pretty damned paranoid about these always on cameras recording us in our homes. I bought a cheaper brand smart TV partly because this one had no camera bundled inside it. You have to buy the camera separately and I just didn't. The smart TVs have been caught patenting the exact same kind of stuff MS was patenting for the Xbox. People are crazy! Why would you need the ability to turn on your TV with your voice so bad that you are willing to be recorded 24/7, even when your TV is off? You literally turn on a TV by pushing one button, on a remote. This is not a groundbreaking new feature! And that's my issue with MS in a nutshell. They just got caught lying to consumers with regards to spying on them with Xbox One. They got spanked over it, lost money over it...and turned around and did it to a MUCH larger degree. The type of spying happening in 10 seems much, much worse (from what I understand). Their solution seems to be to force companies into helping them create an even more extreme monopoly so that users have to have 10, and keeping the media quieter about it. That's really troubling. But anyway, thanks again for the info, I passed it along to my partner as well. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the long game with regards to Windows 10 and gaming and if it is going to come down to a choice between triple A gaming or privacy.
  15. So I'm looking for some advice on which of these to buy. Probably pretty obvious I'm not exactly a technical person. I'd like to make some videos of my settlements in Fallout 4, etc. I will be using this to record gameplay on my computer, and also off PS4, Xbox 360, and occasionally PS3, retro consoles like Dreamcast and a Retron 5. I'll be uploading it to Youtube, if that matters. I game on my TV, by running the cable to it from the computer. It's a Vizio smart TV and I can run games in 1080p with it (no idea if that matters either). If there are other options you recommend, feel free to suggest them. I've zeroed in these two because they seem to be easy to use for people with no experience. It seems to me that people find the Elgato easier to use, and like the software that comes with it better. But it looks like the Elgato will only record for one hour? Is that right? Will I have to stop and do something every hour? How much trouble is this going to be, like do I have to exit the game and upload the hour of footage right then? Really have no idea how this works, but I do tend to game for long sessions. There also seems to be some debate about which one of these actually records in HD better. Apparently neither of them will record 1080p at 60 fps. I would really like to know if one of them is better in terms of game lag as well, as I would just like to get it set up and leave it. I also see people saying that the Elgato has less wires because it draws power from the computer. I don't care about wires, but I will care if the power drain slows down my pc when I'm trying to use multiple applications at once. I really don't even know if that's how that works though. Is this something to favor the Hauppauge over? If it matters, I tend to play with a ton of mods, and I build large scale structures and fill them with clutter. Eventually, I hope to have large structures or cities with about 50 settlers at each of the settlement locations in the game. I think this will be taxing enough for the computer (esp. while capturing footage) without adding to the strain. I don't use ENB mods right now, but might in the future. Also, I don't know if I need to buy a microphone for audio. I have a Tritton 720 + headset that I assume I can use to capture chat audio. Is that right? If not, does anyone have suggestions for what microphone would be good for this? I'm gaming in a recliner in my living room so the convenience of the headset mic is nice. This is just for fun, so I don't need professional quality sound or anything. Will either of these capture devices record what I hear in my Trittons? The boom from grenades and things sounds really awesome with the Trittons, but I'm unsure if the capture devices will be taking the sound from the TV speakers instead. No surround sound set up on the TV. Another question I had was about this copyright protection on HDMI footage? No idea what this even means. I assume this is about keeping people from recording Movies or TV shows and copying them. I don't understand how it relates to capturing your own gaming footage. Any info on this would be great, along with which one of these devices would be better in this regard. Oh, and it'd be best if it would work on Windows 10 or 7. Have 10 currently on this computer, but I'm not sure if I'm going to be keeping it due to non-stop problems. Any other advice on getting a good set up for this kind of thing would be much appreciated. I've been reading reviews and comments, watching YouTube product reviews and tutorials, etc. If you guys have any other resources, such as websites that specialize in this sort of thing, feel free to point me in that direction. Thanks!
