  1. Going solely off the trailer, at this point it appears my decision will lie with the hunters since I don't play villains. I wonder which of my main characters will be more interesting in this role. Will it be Kitty, the sneaky-archer type khajiit werewolf who will probably really dig those crossbows? Or will it be my shiny new Altmer fire mage, Ember, who recently ran into vampire troubles and got infected and turned. A vampire-hunting vampire? Well, it worked for Angel~ so I think it'd be fun, if they'd allow a vampire in the Dawnguard. Quite a story that'd make.
  2. I agree on Elisif. She seems like a decent lady, if a little weak-willed for her position. I personally think Falk would make a fine Jarl, so I'm glad she's got him to advise her. As for your concerns with Elisif's fate, I dunno if you knew it or not but she doesn't get deposed or killed if the Stormcloaks win. She keeps her throne and Ulfric returns to Windhelm. OP: If you do succeed in avoiding the temptation of picking a side as long as you can, and make the resolution of the war the last thing you do, you could always simply make a save before you choose and then return to it to see the other side. Or even try them both simultaneously. Using the console to name your saves would help keep them organized. I have done this with the DB, holding off on Innocence Lost till the arse end of my last playthrough because I can't seem to justify joining them 'for reals'. But... I still haven't convinced myself to actually go back and join them yet. Anyways, I'm curious what you will think once you've seen both sides for yourself. What will you decide is the truth out of what you discover?
  3. I've never actually found her in the cave so this is interesting to me. Usually when I go to her house to get the proof I need to accuse her, she's sleeping in the half-coffin in the basement and wakes up to pick a fight. So I guess my answer is no, I don't leave her alive, but she's never actually given me much choice in the matter. I wonder what triggers her to be in the cave?
  4. :psyduck: What? You got a weird definition friendly debate, considerin' your initial post on this topic. But I apologize if my response hit a nerve or somethin', it wasn't written with hostility, I promise. And this is what I'm talking about. It's just not so. I've done countless bounties for Ulfric, clearing out bandits, giants and dragons that are terrorizing Eastmarch. Same as any other Jarl puts out. In fact, I prefer to return to him instead of Jorleif just to hear him thank me personally. And that stuff about only helping Nords? You can either believe what Brunwulf and the more bitter of the dark elves say, or what actually happens in game. I've been sent to kill giants that had khajiit and dunmer corpses roasting by their fires, and clear out bandit groups comprised totally of Nords. But, just in case you don't believe me, I'll upload a screenshot I took of one such outing some time ago in my game where a Dunmer's demise via giant had been avenged. I even had Ulfric himself with me. Now if only I could show this screenshot to those knuckleheads in the gray quarter.
  5. Its my opinion that anyone with the conviction to do so can defeat the Thalmor. The Empire lacks that conviction, as made apparent by that treaty. If they hadn't signed that, none of this would have happened. Hammerfell would still be part of that Empire, and Skyrim's warriors wouldn't of come home to find that the Emperor they just got done bleeding for had sold their traditions to keep his throne and "buy time." Total rubbish, that. The Empire's bruisers like to say that they are the only ones standing between Skyrim and the Dominion. I say they are the ones who opened the doors and let them in.
  6. No worries, Landy8, I'll do it. Spoken like someone who really doesn't have any idea what's going on in the game at all, if you ask me. I know you didn't but I typed it anyway. I notice a trend in the hardcore pro-Empire crowd to ignore actual facts in the game, and rely on baseless insults and horribly one-sided views to argue their opinions with. Its fine if you're a die-hard Imperial, but at least get your facts straight if you're gonna get up on a soapbox with it. Ya'll spout this nonsense about Ulfric being a racist coward. Meanwhile Tulius does nothing but talk down on the Nords and hide behind Rikke. Nothing Ulfric himself says or does can be deemed particularly racist and Ulfric never surrenders, even with the sword of the Dragonborn at his throat. Tulius on the other hand... does try to surrender in his final moments. Hardly a surprise, given the disturbingly yellow colored bellies of the Empire that sent him there. As Ulfric said, The Empire I knew never surrendered. And to those who still believe that a United Empire can beat the Thalmor, I ask you, "What Empire?" Do you really know what's left? There isn't much of an Empire to speak of any more. That Empire needs Skyrim much more than she needs them. And so, why should Skyrim's warriors leave their fates in the hands of the ones that sold their beliefs to the Elves? As arrogant as its gonna sound, I can't help but believe that anyone who supports the Imperial side of the war really has no idea who they've joined up with. I've seen the outcomes of both sides winning (I can't bring myself to actually play through the Empire side, mind you, but I did my homework and some good old fashioned youtube-browsing for what I wouldn't see in my own game.) and there isn't a helluva lot at this point that could convince me that siding with the Empire is the right thing to do - even if Ulfric -were- the racist jackass that a lot of people claim he is.
  7. The Empire is taking Talos worshippers out of their home and delivering them to Thalmor torturers for 'interrogation' right alongside their justicars. Not exactly what I'd call the good guys. While the Stormcloaks are not without their faults, they aren't wrong in trying to defend their home and restore their traditions - traditions that the Empire once shared when it came to Talos. So while I don't think the Empire are the "Bad Guys", I do think that they are working with them. Whatever their reasons for this may be, it is unacceptable to me. So, you won't find any of my characters joining the legion even though none of them are Nords. In fact my newest one is an Altmer. I think that once you dig a little deeper into what's going on, you'll realize it's less about "Skyrim is for the Nords" and more about "Skyrim is -not- for the Thalmor."
  8. I tried to do this, and the map not only fell through the table but the floor as well and is now lost to the abyss. Unfortunately I haven't been able to test the quicksave-and-leave technique on it since I learned of that after it had gotten eaten by the floor. Assuming you know what this is and have tried it, but if you don't: Try picking it back up, dropping it on the floor nearby, then quicksaving the game and loading it. Then (without picking it up) leave the house and come back in. Then you should be able to place the object anywhere you want without it resetting or falling off of whatever you put it on. This has worked like a charm for everything for me so far. However, I think that map might be a special case so I'm curious if it works for it.
  9. Thinking of installing the alternate start mod to do the TG quest line on a new character as to me, its the first handful of quests you have to do for them that are the worst and makes them seem like a group of common thugs instead of thieves. However, a character (possibly a previous tenant of the Orphanage) who had more or less grown up among them would make it a little easier for me to feel some kinda loyalty to them and do their dirty work even if she questions the method. Especially when reform comes later. Of the two guilds, TG is much easier for me to justify joining, and has the better perks, not the least of which is Brynjolf's setsy voice saying something other than his stupid sales pitch for all eternity. :P There's also a lofty achievement associated with the TG that will give you something to do for a long time. This is the main reason I'm considering a play through dedicated to them. The Dark Brotherhood is a lot more difficult for me to join though. In oblivion it was easy to get that visit from them as a mostly-good character, and also a lot easier to justify one's continued presence there. So far, I've been dragged to that shack in 3 playthroughs and have killed Astrid every time. She has that whole "I-just-need-to-be-shot" vibe surrounding her from the second she opens her mouth. So what's a girl to do? I shot her. Every time. I've debated using the same method mentioned for the TG to join them, but even getting past the shack experience, you're still left with what I understand are extremely questionable contracts to kill people for the most ridiculous reasons. Is there any way for a mostly good character to justify being in Skyrim's DB branch? I don't do villains. But I would love to kick the crap out of the Emperor. It's almost worth the trouble of joining them just for that chance... but I really wish there was a way around them. Anyway, the only real con of not pursuing the quests after you've started them in my opinion is them lingering in your journal and the usual asinine comments from poorly informed guards.
  10. Oh heavywaters, that just made my day right there. This wasn't my request so I hope this don't count as a bump or nothing and I'll delete it if it does, but words can't express how excited I am that someone is working on this. :3 I had half a mind to try it myself when I first saw this request, but after my last attempt to make a custom armor resulted in a big ol hole through my character's chest, I'm gunshy of trying it again. Can't wait to see the rest of it.
  11. This is usually a sign of mod overload if I'm not mistaken. Try disabling some mods you aren't using at the moment - such as quest or area mods.
  12. Baseless insults (which the anti-Ulfric crowd always seem to throw into their arguments... wtfins. 6.6; ) aside, a weakened Empire is not Skyrim's problem anymore. If the Empire wanted what was left of it - which isn't much! - to remain strong and united, it should have acted like it. Instead, they sell Skyrim's beliefs to the Thalmor. Just as they sold them a portion of Hammerfell. Hammerfell didn't stand idly by and let this happen either. As I said in another thread, there's really no Empire left at this point and they've no one to blame but themselves for caving in to the Dominion. It is they who openly and knowingly push the Aldmeri agenda of world domination closer to success. That dossier is proof only of Ulfric's past and the Thalmor's underestimation of his ability to win this war. As for whether or not Skyrim can stand against the Dominion without the Empire: look only to Hammerfell, who is currently doing just that. Skyrim doesn't need the Empire. As far as I'm concerned, its the other way around. Let's not forget that for either side, winning requires dovahkiin support. Therefore, in my game, it is almost certain that Skyrim will recover from Imperial/Thalmor Occupation and be stronger for it. After all, Ulfric has the Dragonborn on his side. ;) Meanwhile I believe the Empire will either succeed to the Thalmor like Elsweyr did, or possibly see its own revolt where the people shrug off their association with the Dominion with their blood and their steel. But that's just my little slice of Tamriel. I figure all you Empire-joiners are hosed and might as well pick up your pointy-ear hats and fake gold suntan lotion so you can blend in with the new world order, because your leaders are running out of things to sell. :P
  13. But they are acting like followers with their dialogue? The commands I mention get rid of the follower dialogue by removing their association with the currentfollower/hireling factions that give them that dialogue. Idly which multiple-follower mod do you have installed? This sounds very much like UFO's behavior when there is a bad pex or script file present in your data folder and might be fixable by removing those script files, and uninstalling/reinstalling UFO per the failsafe instructions.
  14. Building and testing my Ulfric mod, I ran into all sorts of weirdness like this so I'll share some of the crap I had to do to recover my test saves. Your save game may be salvageable depending on what mods you were using. As you have already set your follower count to 0, try removing the followers that are 'stuck' to you from the currentfollower/hireling factions to see if that will get them to leave. I advise taking them to wherever their home is first, and then... Do this by selecting them in the console (make sure its them and not some piece of scenery) to remove them from currentfollowerfaction type addfac 0005c84e -1 to remove them from currenthireling faction type addfac 000bd738 -1 (If they are a hireling you will have to use both commands. Free followers only require the first) *Also, if you were actually getting the "The follower has left your service." message when trying to dismiss them normally, it was still counting down your follower count, so make sure it's still 0 and not a negative number :P Hopefully they wander off after that. If they don't, talk to them and see what they say. If you have the option to ask them to follow you again, do so and then try releasing them the normal way. If that doesn't work, try disabling the follower mods in effect and then using the above steps again. If that works, you'll want to save your game and then reactivate any of those mods that have special uninstall features so that you can uninstall them properly. Once you've done that and all of your follower mods are uninstalled, load and save the game. Then you have a clean save to start putting the mods back in again. Hope this helps. :3 Good luck!
  15. Kitty has acquired all of the Wolf Queen books. Other than that, due to her nature, she'll be unable to get all the word walls or daedric artifacts. She's also not a mage. Woe. But! She does have a lovely collection of Eidar cheese displayed lovingly in the trough at Hjerim. She even found a gigantic wheel of it at a giant's lair. It's the pride of her collection but since it was too big for the trough, it's sitting on a table. I figure that piece alone trumps all that other stuff ya'll are talking about. :P I wish they had display cases for cheese!
