not Skyrim specificr but a good performance booster for most games is Game Booster
it is also worth taking a look at Advanced System Care while you are on the IOBit site ;)
I'll check out Game Booster. It is known to help with Skyrim? Will it improve framerate? Right now my framerate is pretty decent, but I want to try out a mod that might be intensive on my hardware (cinematic lighting mod).
xlcr, I have downloaded the four FX boosters (pine needles, rainfall, snowfall, the rift forests). My performance didn't get affect much from those, but this may be helpful for the cinematic lighting mod. I used NMM for them, and activated one of those mods, and when I activated the other three, got some messages. I clicked no for all three. Did I choose the right thing with choosing 'no'? Did you use NMM for the FX mods?

Can the outfit you get for joining the thieves guild be enhanced at a workbench so long as you have the right smithing perk for it? What about the nightingale armor?
-
I know there is a mod that makes it so that potions don't rake in as much money. I forgot which one it is. I looked through some mods but I'm just not finding it. Does anyone know of any mod or mods that balance things so that potions don't bring in as much money?

I'd like to try CLENB, but I don't know how my computer would run it. Does anyone know how a computer with these specs would handle the game with CLENB?
The specs:
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition (Quad Core, 3.2 Ghz)
Radeon HD 5750 1 GB
4 GB DDR 3 1600 RAM
Windows 7 64 bit
The game runs rather well currently with high settings and 2X AA and 4X AF. Some stuttering when running around and spinning the camera or standing still and spinning the camera, usually nothing big.
I don't have a performance booster right now. Skyboost doesn't support patch 1.5 yet. Does anyone know of any other good performance boosters that support 1.5, hopefully some that update more often?
-
There was one that allowed you to bottle and drink water, but I found it rather counter-intuitive, and didn't like a few of my other mods.
Gave you a plus 1 for rep point. This mod is what I was looking for. Have any recommendation for a cooking/recipe mod that is compatible with this mod?
-
What are some good performance boosters for Skyrim? I went to download SkyBoost, only to find that there isn't a version of it for Skyrim 1.5 yet (and 1.5 has been out for a while). It seems they are slow with updates. Are there any Skyrim performance boosters that are good that are updated more frequently?

I like some of the things I see with Imp's More Complex Needs, but I am hoping there is a mod for hunger, thirst, and sleep that doesn't penalize much. Even with the basic version of that mod, traveling a lot on foot will make you eat a lot, and my thief character travels a lot on foot.
Is there a very basic hunger, thirst, and sleep mod that won't penalize me for traveling around a lot on foot? Also, I'd like to be able to drink water. Is there any mods that will allow you to bottle water? Any that would allow you to buy bottled water?

I found this mod on the main page: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=16399
Here is one of the pictures for it: http://static.skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/images/16399-2-1336348658.png
I'd like to check out the mod that has teenagers for each vanilla race. I have one adult character now, and for a second character I might just choose an adult character, but I'd like to check out this mod to see what it is like.

I'm so used to NMM. So, I found a mod I want that doesn't use the manager. It is Lethal Archery (not to be confused with the mod Deadly Archery). The mod: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=4456
So, what do I do to install the mod? Just extract it to the data folder, and that is it? I'm pretty sure that is what I do, but I'm not sure, and I'd rather not do something wrong and then end up causing issues with the game. I just worked out issues with Skyrim the other day and right now everything is smooth sailings for me with the game.

I was at level 1 on a new install of Skyrim, leveled up, and then I leveled up 3 levels, up to level 4. I leveled up again and it was normal, and then leveled up again and leveled up 2 levels. So I have to fix this.
So I reinstalled Skyrim recently and put in all the mods I wanted and then started a new game. I tried doing load order the best I could and used BOSS. When I uninstalled Skyrim, I thought I deleted all my old saves. I found some of my old saves still around in the load menu, so I deleted them (there was around 8 or 9 of them).
So, I started a new game and had one mod that increased alchemy EXP gains by 20%, and I activated the Thief Stone. When I leveled up, I had the problem. So I uninstalled the higher EXP gain mod and went to a save before I activated the Thief Stone and before I gained my first level (but after accumulating some EXP from other things). I did my first level up again and leveled up to level 4 again after one level up. So then I went to the first Skyrim save (the character creation part). This was before I gained any EXP whatsoever. I got my first level up and had the same problem.
So, a few things. I'm thinking maybe I should have started a new game to see if I still had the problem. I picked a save at the character creation process, I might as well have just started a new game. I don't know if that would have made a difference or not. Another thing, I don't know what mod is screwing up my leveling up. I think it is the alchemy EXP gain mod. I believe it is the only mod I had that affects leveling up (I got rid of it). Also, I don't know if the old saves I found that were from before I uninstalled the game screwed things up. I uninstalled the game, deleted the game folder, and deleted the game folder in the my documents folder, and some saves still showed up. Was there another folder I was supposed to delete? Was I supposed to delete the game folder in my documents before deleting the game folder in steamapps? I don't even know if that is the cause of my problem.
I also moved my steam folder from program files (x86) to a different location before reinstalling Steam. I don't know if that makes a difference. I don't think I did it wrong.
Does anyone know what type of mods can cause this problem besides mods that affect EXP gains? I hope I don't have to reinstall the game again and reinstall all the mods I want again. I don't even know if that will be the solution. I could reinstall things and then still have the problem.
-
I would like to know how to install Skyrim outside of program files. Someone told me that avoids UAC problems. I believe that when I try to install Skyrim, it doesn't give me a choice of where to install the game.
Also, should I put it in a C:/Steam... location?
I'm using Windows 7 64-bit.

I hate it when MS pays money for exclusive rights to games or timed exclusives for games or content. Surely, Dawnguard is a timed exclusive. Still, so stupid we have to wait for it for PC.And if it actually doesn't go on PC, Bethesda deserves all the complaints and negative emails that will come their way. Same applies for if the DLC doesn't go on PS3.

I have some questions about Illusion magic. Here is a wiki page on Illusion magic in Skyrim: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Illusion
How will I know the level of an enemy? Will an enemy have the same level as me? Also, looking at Kindred Mage, it says Illusion spells will work on higher level people - +10 levels to the highest level. The master Illusion spells only work up to level 25 for opponents, so that would be up to level 35 on opponents with the right perk. Can human enemies and NPCs go beyond level 35 in Skyrim? Does this mean that any humans in the game that are level 36 or above are immune to Illusion magic? Would this be the case for animals and undead, daedra, and automatons that are above level 35, as well?
I was thinking about making a character that makes use of Illusion magic, but if enemies that are high enough in level are immune to Illusion spells, than forget about it. It wouldn't be worth it.
I asked this question in another thread but I'll ask here, too. If you use an Illusion spell like calm on a person, can you pickpocket them with ease? Or do the pickpocketing odds stay the same, and if you fail at a pickpocket attempt, they'll snap out of it and talk to you?
-
I was thinking of playing a stealth based character that excels in the use of the bow (fill out skill tree, except maybe for steady hand). I would also have her excel in alchemy (all perks except snake blood and purity) and have seven perks in light armor and eight or nine perks in sneak (whole right side of the skill tree and 5/5 of the first perk and maybe muffle). Playing an archer gets hard when you run into a mob of enemies, though, so I figure I should also incorporate Illusion magic. Would Illusion magic do me well in hard situations, especially with 3-6 bandits, forsworn, or vampires? Should it help a lot with automatons?
Some other ideas I have about this character. One perk for steel smithing because a lot of mods make use of steel smithing. Get enough perks in speech to get merchant and investor. Do four or five perks in pickpocketing because I hear the thieves guild has some quests where you pickpocket, and I wouldn't mind stealing gold from trainers. I might use a sword and shield sometimes (I'm thinking a 'counter dagger'; it is from a mod). I could get the mod that allows multiple rings and put one fortify one-handed ring on each hand and one fortify block ring on each hand, or just one of each; not sure yet. I'd make use of one fortify archery ring, too. I'll limit myself to five rings for combat enhancement. Might put two perks into block just to get 'quick reflexes'.
That Skyrim calculator is great for planning what type of character to make. What do you guys think of a character like that? Could be fun? Do you think she'd be able to handle herself well going solo most times? I'd like to quest solo as much as I can with her.
I have a question about Illusion magic, as well. Can you easily pickpocket someone while the spell calm is under effect for them?

I appreciate the warning about BOSS, but I might give it a shot. I'll research BOSS and what exactly it is and what it does and see if I really need it.
-
Alright, I need a HDD sweeper. Use it after I uninstall, correct? Anyone have a recommendation for one? Is CCleaner one?
-
I forgot to mention I use NMM. So perhaps my best bet is to use BOSS, or should I just go for Wrye Bash and learn how to use it? Also, since I use NMM, should I just uninstall the game and then delete the game folder like someone said I should, or with NMM, should I uninstall all mods via it?
An HDD sweeper would be good for when I uninstall the game? Does anyone have an HDD sweeper brand I should use? One that is free. If I go with an HDD sweeper, would I still need CCleaner?
-
Alright, thanks, that give me a better idea of load order. I'll check out Wrye Bash.
So about this:
"Should I uninstall all my mods first, and then reinstall Skyrim, and then reinstall the mods I want?"
Is that the order I should do things? I figure there is a right way to do it and some wrong ways to do it.
Also, does anybody know the answer to the Steam play time tracking question?
-
I want to start a new game of Skyrim. I'm giving Skyrim a fresh new start. First, can you reset the play time tracker from Steam? I went up to well over 100 hours, and I'd like to bring that back down to 0 play time tracked. I am going to reinstall the game. Will that do the trick? Will that reset my achievements, too? I wouldn't mind those being reset.
Also, what should I know about load order? I never really bothered with that, as I just use NMM. I see a topic on it that is recent, but the thing is, I know nothing about load order. Is there a thread about it someone can link me to, or is there a TES wiki page on it?
I was thinking of disabling all my mods and then reinstalling them. Should I uninstall all my mods first, and then reinstall Skyrim, and then reinstall the mods I want?
If you are curious as to why I'm doing this, it is because I was playing Skyrim a lot, put it down for awhile and then that ended up being for a couple of months, and I want to start the game again with a new character and start things with a clean slate.

I should get a new PSU today; in the mail. When I ground myself with a metal object that is already grounded, well, what should I use? What is some metal found in houses that is grounded?
-
Thank you everyone. I tried adding some plus rep points, but I have to log into TES Nexus for that. I forgot my login details for there.
So, I may have a motherboard problem (just saying it is possible). First, I have to make sure my PSU is actually dead or not. I should go to a computer shop and have them see if my PSU is dead or not. I just hope they don't charge much for such a simple thing. I can only get that service at an independently owned computer shop, huh? Not at a Staples, by any chance? I just don't know any computer shops nearby. I'll look around my area for one. The closest one is probably 20 minutes away, maybe even 30 minutes away.
That corsair that was recommended to me has a four out of five rating and I've seen some PSUs that have more ratings and have a five out of five rating, but FMod, you say I can't go wrong with that one PSU you recommended?
-
When looking for a new PSU, do I have to match up similar specs with my old PSU? Things like ampage and DC output?
My shoddy PSU is from Xion. Model number is XON-700P12N. Some examples of what I'm talking about. The +3.3V is at 30A, the +5V is at 28A, and the +12V1 is at 18A. Do I have to find matching numbers on my new PSU? Do I have to find matching values for things like input voltage, input frequency range, input current, and output? Do I have to find matching values for any of those?
In finding the right PSU, does a new one have to have anything to do with the one you have? What do I need to look for to get the right PSU?
I kind of expect what answers I'll get to some of those questions, but someone suggested I have to match certain values, and I decided I might as well ask, even though I'm not sure on that.
Do I have to look into what type of connectors come with a PSU? I already know I need a 20+4 pin connector for the motherboard. I read that a 24 pin connector is also compatible with 20+4 pin connectors, IIRC. That is the case?
I'll check to make sure the PSU is actually dead before buying a new one, btw.

I used this PSU calculator: http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp
I used that PSU calculator, and even put a Radeon 6950 in the calculation instead (my current GPU uses much less wattage), and it gave a recommendation of 419 watts. So maybe a 550 watt PSU is all I need?
Again, this is the PSU that I'm looking at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371016
Would that be a good buy?
Also, it turns out my dead PSU is indeed a shoddy one. So-so ratings from sites.
Also, that PSU calculator site said total amperage available is very important. What total amperage should I look for for +12V, +5V, and +3.3V?

Can any computer viruses damage or break hardware? Can computer viruses break PSUs?
Short answer: No.
Long answer: There were some obscure ways with very old hardware (floppy drives, CRT displays), but the process was usually very obvious, took considerable time, and had a very small success rate. None of these ever spread anyway.
It does sound like your PSU died. Check around for the obvious like on/off switch, power cables, the fuse if present.
Good PSU to buy are Corsair TXV2, Seasonic S12 or M12, Nexus (unrelated to this site), Antec Truepower New, Antec HCG-620, in about this order.
Different PCs have different wattage, you need to list your major components to get it.
Major components:
Radeon HD 5750 1 GB
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 4 cores at 3.2 GHz
750 GB HDD I believe it is 5400 RPM
4 GB DDR 3 PC 1600 RAM (Two 2 GB sticks)
DVD-R/DVD-RW Drive
Card reader
USB powered speaker set
Anything else I should list? I can't recall the specifics of the motherboard. Is that an issue? It isn't a high end board. It is a typical board from 2008 or 2009.
Should I be worried about other components being fried due to the PSU dying? I know there was a possibility of that, but how likely is it?
Edit: I'm looking at this PSU.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371016
It has 20+4 pins for a connector, which is what I need. Anything else I should look for when comparing it to my old PSU? Take a look at the components I listed. Now, if I were ever to put a Radeon HD 6850 on that machine an hook up an external HDD, would that thing have enough watts? Should I go with a 600 watt or 650 watt PSU instead? 700 watt PSU?

Should I get it for pc or console? help
